A video of my trip to the Caucasus in August 2017. The entire film was shot on DJI Mavic Pro drone in Armenia and Georgia. Here is a brief list of locations that can be seen in this video:

????????????????????????Caucasus: travel documentary (Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia)
The Caucasus is an interesting region suspended between Europe and Asia. It is at the crossroad of the two continents and has a compelling blend of East and West. The 3 republics of Georgia, Azerbaijan and Armenia have a lot in common, despite each proudly retaining their unique features.
We visited Tbilisi for the first time in Spring 2017 and we soon fell in love. So we decided to come back with a proper adventure. We started off in Baku, a cosmopolitan city whose recent history is intrinsically linked to the oil industry. Thousand of oil drilling machines are scattered in the Absheron peninsula, despite as of today, the main extraction comes from the platforms on the Caspian Sea. Baku urban pattern is a core historical center resembling an old Persian town of the Silk Road. Around this, there is the European city, built in the late 1800 and inspired to Western Europe. And then there is the modern city where old Soviet blocks are being teared down and replaced by futuristic constructions
From Baku, we took the train to Tbilisi, Georgia. Having visited the city the previous year, we decided not to stay in the city center but go alternative and sleep in a hipster hotel built in an old sewing factory. From Tbilisi, we spent a day in the Kakheti region, famous for its wines
We crossed the border to Armenia with a car. The road immediately turned to be more difficult as we followed the route across the Dabed canyon. We chose this way to visit to monasteries, Haghpath and Sahin, of an incredible beauty. It was a touching experience as we were the only visitors
In Yerevan we had the opportunity to meet Naregh, on old schoolmate of Valentina, who decided to move to Armenia about a year ago. We spent a day with him and he told us about the recent Velvet Revolution and what to expect in Armenia. On the same day, we met with Yun and Nonno, who will be travelling with us for about a week
Armenia has two incredible assets to offer to visitors: beautiful UNESCO monasteries and amazing landscapes. But it is not only that. Yerevan, which at first sight seemed quite uninspiring, turned to be an extremely lively city after dusk and at night, when it seemed that the entire Armenia was walking on the streets and enjoying the warm Summer nights
In one of the visit to the monasteries, we met Giorgio, a student from Italy with Georgian origins. He is fond of Caucasian architecture, and was impressive to hear from him the various features and characteristics of the Armenian monastery. We gave him a ride with the car and visited a few places with him
Crossing the border with Georgia was necessary to complete our coast-to-coast. We stopped in Vardzia, an ancient cave city and visited the fortress of Khertvisi. Both placed in an incredible canyon. Breathtaking
The next stop was Batumi, on the Black sea. A sort of Soviet version of Atlantic City, Batumi was not our cup of tea. We much preferred the city of Kutaisi, where we enjoyed the local market, the cathedral and the nearby monasteries of Gelati and Motsameta
In Kutaisi we left Nonno and Yun. They head north to visit the remote region of Svaneti. We had to go back, but before reaching Tbilisi, we stopped in Gori, the hometown of Josef Stalin, and Uplistikhe, another cave city near Gori

Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan used the power vacuum after the 1917 revolution in Russia and after the collapse of the Central Powers in 1918 to gain their independence. But the Caucasus region was of vital strategic importance to the new Russian regime, to the British and to the Turks.

Last April, fighting between troops from the self-proclaimed republic of Nagorno-Karabakh and the Azerbaijan army rekindled a conflict that had been frozen for more than 20 years:

THIS IS ARMENIA | Inside A Mysterious Country
One day of exploring the little known country of Armenia in the Caucasus region near Turkey, Iran, Azerbaijan and Georgia. I went on a day tour in which we started in the capital city of Yerevan, visited the Armenian Genocide Museum, stopped at two Armenian monasteries, visited the Alphabet Monument, a castle and another monastery and then drove up the side of Mt. Aragats, tallest mountain in Armenia.

Ереван является одним из самых древних городов мира, он был основан в 782 году до нашей эры!
Ереван окружен Кавказскими горами, развивается как туристический центр (построено около 80 отелей). Многие туристы стараются прийти к монументу Каскад, который является живописной обзорной площадкой города. Отсюда прекрасно видны улицы и площади Еревана, а также заснеженная вершина горы Арарат.

Yerevan is the capital and the largest city of Armenia. The Armenian Diaspora around the world considers it its cultural and spiritual center and actively influences the development of Yerevan, helping to restore ancient monuments and open new museums. Yerevan is one of the oldest cities in the world, it was founded in 782 BC!
Yerevan is surrounded by the Caucasus mountains and is developing as a tourist center (about 80 hotels have been built). Many tourists try to come to the monument Cascade, which is a picturesque observation deck of the city. From here you can see the streets and squares of Yerevan, as well as the snow-capped top of mount Ararat.

The Caucasus is a mountainous area nestled between the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea, consisting of southern Russia, Georgia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan. This transitional region has a foothold in both Eastern Europe and Western Asia, but is generally viewed as part of modern Europe. Covered in some of the world's most stunning alpine landscapes, Caucasus is home to Mount Elbrus, the highest mountain peak in Europe.
In many ways, Caucasus is comparable to the Balkans: it is a patchwork of ethno-linguistic groups, sits at the intersection of Christian and Muslim cultures, and has suffered ethnic instability for most the 1990s and early 2000s. At present, these lingering geopolitical issues are strategic and long-term in nature, so they do not ordinarily affect the day-to-day safety of visitors, which can vary from country to country.
Today Caucasus is an emerging tourist destination but this, too, varies by area. Although Russia receives more visitors than any other country in the region, only a small fraction of this vast country is in the Caucasus. Among countries entirely in the Caucasus, as of 2015 Georgia leads the pack in terms of the number of visitors received.
Armenia
A mix between an ancient, millennia-old civilization with stark mountain landscapes and remote canyons and the modern bustling cultural hub of Yerevan. Home to amazing world heritage sites, hidden monasteries and boasting a wonderfully laid back and friendly culture and cuisine.
Azerbaijan
The richest state of the Caucasus, its capital awash in oil wealth and international business, historical palaces of the Shirvan Shahs in Baku and Sheki, Zoroastrian fire temples, barren landscapes—oil and salt spreading across the surface, and world-class hikes in the lush heavily forested, mountainous north and south.
Georgia
The heart of the Caucasus with diverse landscapes ranging from high mountain peaks and wine-growing valleys to Black Sea resorts. A wealth of ancient churches, cathedrals and monasteries, some recognized as UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
Russia (Krasnodar, Stavropol Krai, Rostov Oblast, Kabardino-Balkaria, Karachay-Cherkessia, North Ossetia, Chechnya, Dagestan, Ingushetia,)
A beautiful region of mountains and river gorges, ethnic food, stunning stone mountaintop villages and a seemingly endless cycle of violence. Contains both ethnic Russian-majority regions, like Krasnodar, as well as unique ethnic minority areas like Chechnya.
