Causeway Coast Way - walk from Portrush to Giant's Causeway
5/25/2015
The day began with an early train ride from Belfast to Castlerock. I was hoping to have a quick walk to Downhill Demesne and Mussenden Temple before heading back east to Giant's Causeway where I'll spend two nights. But it was so gloomy and the Demesne just didn't look attractive at all. So I returned to the train and headed to Portrush. After getting my food supply at Portrush and wandering around for a couple of hours, I arrived at the west end of a long, beautiful beach shared by surfers, lifeguards, and dog-walkers. The sky cleared, and I started my 8-mile walk from this gorgeous beach to Giant's Causeway. After the beach the trail joins road traffic but still stays close to the coast. The last section of the trail crosses over a beautiful golf course and follows the old Bushmills Railway to the entrance of Giant's Causeway

We stayed in Carrickfergus which was an excellent place to start our tour of the Antrim Coast. A big thank you to Billy and Helen who took us to the Titanic Experience and around Belfast. Thanks also to Helen for the fantastic Ulster Fry.

FAST FACTS:
1. The famous walls of the city were built 400 years ago, when King James I required defences to keep the newly planted population safe from Irish rebels besieging the city. Over 6 metres high and at least as wide, these sturdy walls took only five years to be built.
2. The iconic Peace Bridge was introduced to the city in 2011, and has won numerous awards since. It is a vital link between the two sides of the River Foyle, and tends to be the centre point for major events in the city.
3. Derry~Londonderry is a city of murals. Take a walk around the city and you will be met by impactful art messages at every corner. Take a guided tour by the artists themselves, The Bogside Artists, and delve into the meaning behind these art pieces.
4. This walled city plays host to one of the biggest Halloween celebrations in Europe. Derry Halloween has been called the best Halloween festival in the world by USA today, and it’s easy to see why!
5. The late poet Seamus Heaney’s life, literature and legacy can be explored at the Seamus Heaney HomePlace in Bellaghy, County Londonderry. Bushmills Distillery, NI; Home of Bushmills Whiskey
Bushmills Distillery is a fabulous location to tour if you're a fan of whiskey or not! The Home of Bushmills Whiskey - the old Bushmills Distillery was granted a licence by King James 1 in 1608 to distill whiskey - hence its special 1608 bottle. It is considered one of the oldest distillery in the world due to this license and it is in fine company with other distilleries around Ireland for the name of the oldest distillery in the world.
If you're tempted by a bushmills factory tour - we can highly recommend it. The video above shows the bar just off the Bushmills Distillery Shop where gifts are sold. why not consider a tour of distilleries in Ireland - there would be worst ways to spend a few days! :-)
All of the whiskey that is bottled under the Bushmills name is produced at the Bushmills Distillery and it uses water drawn from Saint Columb's Rill which is a tributary of the River Bush. At first, people might think that it is weird for people to visit this place as a touristic destination, but since it is considered one of the oldest distilleries in the world, the reason is then understood.
The date that resembles the foundation of the Bushmills Distillery sometimes confuses people because the date written on the bottles is 1608 but in fact the company that founded this brand originated in 1784 - actually 1608 refers to the date when a royal license was granted to a local landowner to distill whiskey in the area. During the long history of the distillery, it passed through some disclosures because it has been in continuous operation since it was rebuilt after the fire in 1885.
So, there are different reasons why we believe that this place is considered a good visit for both, those who are whiskey fans as well as those who are not. The history of this place is one reason for it being a good recommended place, starting from the time Thomas Philips - the landowner and Governor of Co. Antrim was given a license to distill, until these days when the musical events might take place in the Bushmills Distillery, such as the one that was held in 2012.
Settled on the banks of the river, the Bushmills Distillery is found in a small village for over 400 years; this small village believes that hand crafting small batches is the way to produce beautifully smooth tasting Irish Whiskey - and that is exactly where this whiskey brand that people love was first born and is still found.
There are different tours done inside the Bushmills Distillery and there are also some tasting experiences which people could go through; that's just one of the different things that make this place different and a place that people could actually visit and enjoy.
There are different whiskey types served and sold by the Bushmills, such as the classic whiskey type which is the original one, the Black Bush which is matured in Sherry Casks, the Single Malt whiskey that comes in three different types; the 10 Year Bushmills, the 16 Year, and the 21 Year.
Since we are referring to those drinks in Northern Ireland then it is important to share with you some of the experiences which we have gone through and which we intended to do to bring different recommendations for our people. In Belfast city centre, we got the chance to visit The Spaniard place where we knew how to prepare the dark and stormy cocktail that is mainly made out of dark rum and which we totally recommend ( and we also visited the Muriel's in Belfast where we tried the elderflower martini and then the espresso martini (
In addition to that, we have been to Lakeside Bar & Grill in County Fermanagh where we were introduced to Steve the bartender who was there to assist us with the different recipes he usually prepares for his visitors. The cocktails we got the chance to learn more about included the cosmopolitan cocktail ( Cinderella mocktail which gave people the same feeling of the cocktail but which is without alcohol for those drivers out there ( we also got introduced to the brandy Alexander cocktail recipe ( we knew that they serve the boatyard double gin ( as well as the Irish brand beer called Inish Mac Saint ( at their place, and we also knew more about the whiskey snapper mix (
We could actually say that going to bars and other places in which we could learn to prepare different cocktails and at the same time get the chance to taste them is always considered an interesting thing, especially if we will pass over our recommendations at the end to our fans.

SUMMARY
=======
The Occupy movement was an international progressive, socio-political movement against social and economic inequality and the lack of real democracy around the world. It aimed primarily to advance social and economic justice and new forms of democracy. The movement had many different scopes; local groups often had different focuses, but among the movement's prime concerns were how large corporations (and the global financial system) control the world in a way that disproportionately benefited a minority, undermined democracy, and was unstable. Occupy formed part of what Manfred Steger called the global justice movement. The first Occupy protest to receive widespread attention, Occupy Wall Street in New York City's Zuccotti Park, began on 17 September 2011. By 9 October, Occupy protests had taken place or were ongoing in over 951 cities across 82 countries, and in over 600 communities in the United States. Although most active in the United States, by October 2012 there had been Occupy protests and occupations in dozens of other countries across every inhabited continent. For the first month, overt police repression remained minimal, but this began to change by 25 October 2011 when police first attempted to forcibly remove Occupy Oakland. By the end of 2011, authorities had cleared most of the major camps, with the last remaining high-profile sites – in Washington, D.C. and in London – evicted by February 2012.The Occupy movement took inspiration in part from the Arab Spring, from the 2009 Iranian Green Movement, and from the Spanish Indignados Movement, as well as from the overall global wave of anti-austerity protests. The movement commonly uses the slogan We are the 99% and the #Occupy hashtag format; it organizes through websites such as Occupy Together. According to The Washington Post, the movement, which Cornel West described as a democratic awakening, is difficult to distill to a few demands. On 12 October 2011, Los Angeles City Council became one of the first governmental bodies in the United States to adopt a resolution stating its informal support of the Occupy movement. In October 2012, the Executive Director of Financial Stability at the Bank of England stated that the protesters were right to criticise and had persuaded bankers and politicians to behave in a more moral way.
