Subirats, located in the Penedès wine region of Spain is very active when it comes to wine tourism. Interview with Daniel García, Manager of the Subirats Wine Tourism Project.
Wine tourists can easily get to Subirats from Barcelona or Tarragona by catching a train. Upon arrival you have 9 wine routes to choose from all of which can be done on foot. Other options include on horseback or by bicycle and perhaps in the future on a segway. Apart from wineries to visit such as El Mas Ferrer, Castellroig, Cava Guilera, and Llopart you can also see enchanting villages, castles, churches, 18th century Catalan masias (large farmhouses), solar clocks, sanctuaries, stone huts, pine and oak forests, olive and almond trees and of course vines.
So how many wine tourists can you see on the video? Hopefully, Wine Pleasures, as part of the International Wine Tourism Conference and Workshop programme in Feb 2010 will be able to show this unique region to 20 or so International Tour Operators who in turn can offer Subirats as a destination for wine tourism.
