Day 14 on our Round The World Trip for Food: Rome, Italy - On our very first day in Rome, we set off early in the morning to see some of the most famous attractions in Rome, including the Colosseum and the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill. After doing some more sightseeing and having lunch, we had an amazing Roman food at a restaurant in Rome called Trattoria Dal Cavalier Gino.
00:37 Breakfast at the hotel - To begin the day of sightseeing in Rome, we had breakfast at the hotel, and did the final planning of the day.
2:12 Colosseum - One of the most important and well recognized attractions in Rome is the Colosseum and we arrived pretty early to get in, and I also had pre-purchased my tickets online to attempt to beat the crowds and not have to waste time waiting in line. It worked well, and as soon as the Colosseum opened, we went through security and got in. It was an amazing sight to see, especially because it was so quiet when we arrived.
3:51 Roman Forum and Palatine Hill - Locate in the same area as the Colosseum is the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill, and so that’s where we went next. Again, seeing the ancient ruins of Rome was truly spectacular.
5:48 Trattoria Luzzi - I wasn’t quite sure where to eat lunch, and located right around these famous attractions in Rome, there are a lot of expensive, and probably not so good restaurants. We decided to go check out a restaurant called Trattoria Luzzi, just down the road from the Colosseum on the opposite side of the road. I ordered Trippa Alla Romana, a Roman tripe dish and also a pasta of Amatriciana. Overall, the food was good, and it was a friendly little restaurant and the location was good. Total price - 21 EUR ($23.47).
10:31 Basilica di San Giovanni in Laterano - After lunch we headed to Basilica di San Giovanni in Laterano, a huge basilica in Rome. Right across the plaza is Scala Sancta, a small chapel with a 28 step staircase where Jesus is believed to have ascended.
13:25 Gelateria Valentino - I don’t know of anyone that goes to Rome without eating some gelato, and right around the Trevi fountain area of Rome, you’ll find a lot of gelato spots. We tried Gelateria Valentino. Gelato - 3 EUR ($3.35)
14:50 Trevi Fountain - Another one of the most iconic attractions in Rome is the Trevi fountain. We didn’t spend too much time there, but it is pretty cool to see in person.
16:25 Amazing Italian Roman food at Trattoria Dal Cavalier Gino Restaurant - For dinner, my wife and I met up with Valentina and Antonio. After walking through the amazing narrow lanes of Rome, we navigated our way to Trattoria Dal Cavalier Gino Restaurant, where they had made a reservation for dinner. The restaurant is exactly what you want in a classic Roman Italian food restaurant, a family style restaurant that offers an abundance of Roman dishes. We first started with some types of Roman pasta including cacio e pepe, and carbonara, all of which were incredible - the best pastas I’ve ever had. Then we moved on the an amazing assortment of main Italian food dishes, including veal, lamb, and so many other amazing dishes. It was an Italian food meal like I’ve never had before. Most of the dishes were Roman food style. Thank you Valentina and Antonio for the amazing dinner!
Day 14 in Rome was an amazing day of visiting some of the most famous attractions in Rome and eating some incredibly delicious Italian food!

Venice with Kids 2018
Wondering what to do in Venice with kids? Our kids absolutely love Venice. This was their second time back, so we tried some new activities and repeated some of our favorites....feeding the birds in St. Marks Square, painting masks at Ca'Macana, shopping at the Rialto Market, a gondola ride through the canals, eating pizza, gelato and cannoli....Last time we took the traghetto to Lido Beach and visited the islands of Murano and Burano as well. We love to stay in the Dorsoduro district because it's a bit away from the crowds. Join us as we wander through Venice and enjoy this unique city with our kids and our Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Fletcher.

Visual roundup of the Venice Film Festival 2006
SHOTLIST
PLEASE NOTE: NEWS ACCESS ONLY
1. VS Venice Film festival 2006
The Chinese movie 'Still Life,' a surprise entry set against the backdrop of China's gigantic Three Gorges Dam project, won this year's Golden Lion , the top award at the Venice Film Festival, on Saturday.
Helen Mirren and Ben Affleck won the top acting awards.
Mirren won for her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II in Stephen Frear's The Queen. Affleck won for his role in Allen Coulter's 'Hollywoodland,' which dramatizes an investigation into the death of George Reeves, star of the 1950s TV show 'Adventures of Superman.'
'The Queen' also took the prize for best script.
The top film award to Chinese director Jia Zhang-ke was a surprise entry late in the festival, and trumped such candidates as Emilio Estevez' 'Bobby,' about the assassination of Robert Kennedy, and 'The Queen,' about the week that followed Princess Diana's death.
'Still Life' was shot in the old village of Fengjie, which has been destroyed by the building of the Three Gorges Dam, and tells of people who go back there.
More than 1.13 million Chinese have been relocated to make way for the dam, many of them complaining of bleak prospects in their new homes above the waterline or in other parts of China.
We were told there would be a surprise film at the end of this festival, and we didn't have a lot of discussion, French actress Catherine Deneuve, who headed the jury that awarded the top prize, told reporters after the ceremony.
The beauty of the cinematography and the quality of the story, without getting political, the characters, we were very touched and we were very moved, Deneuve added. We know it's a very special film.
The Silver Lion for directing went to Alain Resnais for his film Private Fears in Public Places, who returned to the Venice Film Festival 45 years after his film Last year at Marienbad won the Golden Lion.
Resnais' new film is an adaptation of British playwright Alan Ayckbourn's play of the same name, and tells the overlapping stories of six people's search for identity, spun around alcohol, sex and religion.
The movie Nuovomondo (Golden Door) won the Silver Lion for revelation, an award that the jury does not have to hand out. The movie follows the voyage of a Sicilian family in the early 1990s from their homeland to America.
The festival's special jury prize went to Daratt, Mahamat-Saleh Haroun's movie about revenge in the civil war-scarred nation of Chad. It was the first African film to compete for the Venice Film Festival's top Golden Lion award in 19 years

Concerto Grosso Berlin - A Cavalier's Tour through Baroque Europe (Trailer)
Concerto Grosso Berlin - A Cavalier's Tour through Baroque Europe:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A Cavalier's Tour - From the time of the Renaissance, young men would take such educational tours to round off their studies and to get to know things that had just come into fashion at home in the foreign countries from which they originated. Such travel gave them the chance to improve their language skills, visit famous monuments and learn foreign customs. There was a craze for the Grand Tour in 18th-century England in particular, as may be seen from many different angles in the literature of the period.
The album A Cavalier's Tour through Baroque Europe sends the early music ensemble Concerto grosso Berlin on a musical journey with period instruments that takes it beyond the Baroque strongholds of England, France, Italy and Germany. The musicians also present works from the periphery of Europe, where one might have expected to find little or nothing that was original. The result is a motley round of diverse compositions, distinguished not by their differences but by the similarities they derive from their common features, bringing the spirit of bygone Europe alive through the medium of this hitherto unknown repertoire.

VENEZIA - VENEZIANI e Sanità
In Campo S.S.
prestigiosi Hotel. Intanto il Cavalier Colleoni, beffato dagli antichi avi nela sua monumentale collocazione cavalca impettito. 12.11.2011 -
