Cavan Burren Geo-Park: a brief journey
Cavan Burren Park is a mythical, spiritual landscape of monuments, megalithic tombs, hut sites and pre-bog walls all of which survive from pre-historic times and are located within metres of each other.
The Gaelic word ‘Boireann’ means ‘a stony place’. The Park offers stunning views of Cuilcagh Mountain, West Cavan and the greater Global Geopark. A brand new visitor centre interpreting the story of life in Cavan Burren Park opened on the 9th May 2014.

The Burren Cairn Dolmen West Cavan Ireland
The best example of a Cairn Dolmen is found here in The Burren The Cairn is a small portal tomb with most of the cairn still intact. The cairn is roughly 20 metres by 16 metres. The chamber is quite small but has two roof slabs, this tomb is often identified as a wedge tomb and this is quite understandable as it is very similar in appearance to the wedge tombs in the Burren region of County Clare. .
