Cave City, Kentucky
Cave City is located on I-65, Exit 53 in South Central Kentucky. As the Gateway to Cave Country we invite you to come explore the vast and unique underground passageways of our many caves. Above ground we have dinosaurs, museums, hiking, horseback riding, fishing & canoeing, ziplining, antiques and flea markets.
Mammoth Cave Repairs | This American Land
National Parks across the country are filled with visitors this season, and many parks are badly in need of maintenance and repairs--conditions that can't be fixed without funding from Congress. Gary Strieker reports.
Lost River Cave
Lost River Cave is one of those places that not many people know exists. Tourism in Bowling Green is usually limited to the National Corvette Museum but for those willing to explore will find an amazing underground cave with boat tours, cave crawls, kayaking and so much more. When your done, explore the gardens, pan for gems or enjoy any of the other numerous activities.
We make travel videos of hotels, museums, restaurants and quite a few other things. Learn about the places you want to go, before you get there, with our exclusive videos.

Kayaking Carter Caves Tygarts Creek April 21, 2018
Kayaking Tygarts Creek at Carter Caves State Resort Park in Eastern Kentucky. This is about a seven mile kayak trip that was not as easy as it looks. Several riffids to cross and some fast water. About half of the group of 13 that went that day ended up tipping their kayaks, including yours truly, twice. That water was a little brisk.
Mammoth in the Hammock - Exploring Mammoth Cave National Park
Join me for some summer fun in Mammoth Cave National Park in Kentucky. We opted to stay above ground for this trip, and did some hammock/tent camping in the campground and some great day hiking in the park's western section.
There are no big mountains here, and most of the real beauty is underground. But there are many cool things to do above ground that most do not talk about. There are over 70 miles of hiking trails in the park and a backpacking trail with overnight spots that I'd love to come back and explore. If you opt to do the cave tours, keep in mind that summer is tourist season and many of the tours sell out very quickly. The visitor center will be swarmed with families, and the campground will be busy.
This was a relaxed car camping trip, where the point was to do less miles and spend more time enjoying time outside with friends around the campfire. The campground is extremely nice and family-friendly, and I encourage anyone who can make it down to southern Kentucky to explore this fascinating part of the country.
Next time, we'll go underground. I will be back!

Abandoned Mine - Completely Flooded! Kayaking and More!
An old Limestone Mine in Eastern Kentucky. Abandoned for so many years and now is basically a lake. There is no way to access this mine unless you have Kayaks! The mine went back for nearly a mile. It seemed like it was never going to stop going at times! Without flashlights it would be 100% pitch black in here. The Mine was full of life though, Tiny fish, Bats, and all kind of other cave dwellers. This was definitely one for the books here. The most fun I've had in a while. Hope you enjoyed the video and Thanks for watching :)

Horicon Marsh Wildlife Area - The country’s largest freshwater cattail marsh
The largest freshwater cattail marsh in the United States is here in Wisconsin.
Visitors can strike out on a hike from the Education and Visitor Center, go for a paddle or attend any number of hands-on events for wildlife enthusiasts of all ages. Whatever the weather, visitors can check out the hands-on Explorium, complete with an airboat simulator.
One of the marsh's key species is the humble muskrat. These little lodge builders work hard to maintain open waterways, eating cattails and making room for diverse plant, animal and bird species. They're also an important food source for other species like bobcats and raptors.
In the winter, Horicon remains active with trappers who come to its icy waterways in search of muskrat and other furbearer species. We also host one of the biggest candlelight hikes in the area every January.
If you're a lover of Wisconsin wildlife, plan your next outdoor adventure here at Horicon!

Three Springs Campground Overview in Mammoth Cave National Park, KY
Overview of the Three Springs campground in the backcountry of Mammoth Cave National Park. This is accessible from the Temple Hill trailhead. Also, a view of the river enjoying the sunset just a few hundred yards from my camp at the backcountry site.
Walking back to my camp and spotted this Barred Owl above my site. Walked a bit closer to it and got its flight on camera. Please ignore the shaky seconds of walking.

Campground/Park Review:
We first entered the park via the secret entrance, byway of a narrow road at the very north of the park, in which we had to take a single car automated ferry across the green river, which was enjoyed by all, and we appreciated avoiding the main entrance besieged by spring break campers!
The Campground itself's best feature is its proximity to the main park attractions. It's a few minute walk to the visitor's center, from which you can catch daily tours of all types ranging from themed cave tours to botony forest walks and guided history walks. Our normally restless kids were so taken by the 2 hr cave tour that they remained in near total silence and awe as we tunneled through this slow moving guided cave walk. You've got to make a reservation for tours - be warned, they fill up quickly. I recommend making a [reservation]( at least a week before in the busy season (March-Sept), although up to a couple days before, you can usually get in, albeit not at your ideal time, most likely. Adjoining the campground is a more than adequate camp store, with all the common items and a few groceries you may need while there. Across a short walkway from the visitors center is also 2 restaurants, if roasting dogs on the fire isn't you thing, one cafe style with an ice cream shop, and another more formal table service in the historical Lodge.
We went in April, one of the area's wetter months, and found the campsites to be well maintained, drained and free from debris. While no one enjoys wet camping, the great thing about this park is that the main attraction is always the same comforatable temp and weather year round - and you can spend a dry several hours while you avoid the rain spurts outside. The camping was quiet although crowded for spring break, sites were averagely spread apart (those near the front and the store had a bit more room) and included hook ups for campers. There's even a place to park your horse if horsecamping is something that interests you, very Kentucky, indeed. Bath houses are average but well maintained as all the park is.
Product Review:
Being a Dyrt Ranger, I sometimes have the chance to try out new products on our adventures. This time I was able to test out the Birler Axe by #CRTK.
As anyone who's ever had to camp in moist conditions will tell you, it's no fun having to cut through a damp piece of kindling or wood. While we could purchase dry firewood at the campground, we had to chop our own kindling, which we found dry on the inside and wet on the bark...the [Birler]( cut threw it like butter.
It's compact size was easy to pack, and while I'd guess it weighs in at about just over a pound, and wouldn't be ideal for most backpackers, it was perfect for some average campsite wear. The quality was high, and it split a log like no body's business. There's enough heft behind it to make chopping easy, yet a short enough handle to maneuver. Balance was great. A leather sheath is sold separately, and while the axe comes with a rubber blade guard, is highly recommend a sheath for it as it's extremely sharp, unlike our old axe which had a hard time cutting through a carrot. We were the envy of the campground.

Green River Ferry crossing to back country trails
-----------------------------------------
Shelly S.'s Review on The Dyrt:
▶︎ One drawback..
Nice, well maintained, centrally located primitive campsite. There are two RV sites but one is for the camp host and the other is first come first use, no reservation. There is a privately owned RV campground nearby , across from Diamond Caverns. Caving, hiking, canoeing, bike riding and more.
