Canoeing at Cave Country Canoes
Come canoe at Cave Country Canoes on Blue River in Milltown Indiana
The Blue River from Fredericksburg to Milltown in Indianna
My family took an overnight trip down the Blue River covering 24 miles of the Blue River from Fredericksburg to Milltown in Indianna. The river is absolutely beautiful. It is teaming with wildlife. We had planned to spread our trip out over 3 days, spending two nights on the river, but finding a place to camp proved difficult. We put in at the Old Mill Canoe Rental in Fredericksburg and stayed at their primitive campground 12 miles down river. The folks at the Old Mill Canoe rental were more than accommodating. They are only open on Saturday and Sunday, but they allowed us to camp out at their place Thursday night so we would be there and ready to put in Friday morning. We had intended to camp somewhere between the 6-9 mile marker but the banks were lined with what I call itchweed (feels like bits of fiberglass in your legs) Due to the difficulty we had finding a suitable place to hang our hammocks and pitch a tent we decided it might be best to go ahead and paddle with the intention of taking out at Milltown if we could not find a good place to camp. Cave Country Canoes has a campground right on the river in Milltown, which is where we parked our vehicles. At first they were not too keen on us leaving our vehicles but one fellow who I assume ran the place did help us out and allowed us to park in a back lot they own. They have a very nice facility with bathhouses and restrooms where we were able to clean up before beginning our 3.5 hour trek home. We fished along the way and caught several small fish, I would however suggest that if you plan to fish, be sure to get your fishing license before you go via internet, none of the local businesses sold fishing licenses and we stopped at several. We wound up having to backtrack near the interstate before we were able to purchase them at a Wal-Mart.

Friggin' Awesome Canoe Run - Blue River, Indiana
This canoe ride was launched from the Old Mill Canoe Rental in Fredericksburg, Indiana. This is hands down one of the best canoe runs I've been on simply because they run a spot that is isolated and has low river population and privacy like this makes for a very romantic date. They only have a 12 mile run that will take 4-6 hours. This stretch of the Blue River has almost no houses along the banks. Simply a gorgeous run.
Old Mill Canoe Rental is a mom & pop shop (literally) and smaller than nearby competitors but this makes it very personable and you get better attention...I felt like I was an individual instead of another tourist.
Old Mill offers a season pass for $60. This is written July 1, 2018 so future prices might be different.
I totally recommend this place!
There is also a 2-day overnight run that can be done nearby but I'm not sure if they support that...the least visited part of the river. My next adventure.

Round Spring Cave Q & A:
1. How rugged in this trail? This trail consists of less than a mile of out and back hiking completely within a cave. Hikers are guided by official rangers of the National Park Service. Some surfaces are slippery and areas require people bend down through narrow passageways in order to continue. Light sources are with the use of battery-operated lanterns.
2. How long is this trail and is it a loop? Learn more about the trails on the National Park Service website for Round Spring Cave at:
3. Are there signs or blazes along this trail? No.
4. Any suggestions? Wear shoes or boots. Sandles or flipflops with no back straps are not allowed to be worn. If you want to look up or around while in the cave, come to a complete stop. Stay with the group. Arrive early to register as no more than 15 people can go on a cave tour and tours a very limited each day. Don't use flash on any critters in the cave. The cave temperature is usually around 57 degrees so consider a hoodie or something like that.

Leavenworth Indiana - Kiosk ribbon cutting ceremony - 4/5/16 - Ohio River Scenic Byway
The U.S Forest Service held a ribbon cutting ceremony at Leavenworth Indiana at the new kiosk that is along highway 62 on April 5, 2016. This video is of the program. I do apologize regarding the audio. My mic seemed to pick up a bit more wind than I had thought (it really was not windy that day) and it kind of drowns out the audio at times. Also the audio of the speakers come off as kind of low, so you will need to turn up the volume.

This is a tour of what locals refer to as Old English before the local government moved the town uphill to avoid flooding. This part of town is located just south of the junction of highway 64 and 37N / 237S. This new video file is a better encoded version of a previous video file I had uploaded.
