EGYPT: LOOTED, NEGLECTED, SAD LOOKING CHRISTIAN CEMETERY in OLD CAIRO ⚰️
SUBSCRIBE: - Let's visit the old part of Cairo in Egypt. We are going to go to Old Cairo and more specifically the Coptic area, here we are going to find a Christian cemetery for christian Copts and Orthodox (Greeks, Russians). Sadly, the whole place has been looted and it is largely neglected and abandoned, as you will see.
Coptic Cairo is a part of Old Cairo which encompasses the Babylon Fortress, the Coptic Museum, the Hanging Church, the Greek Church of St. George and many other Coptic churches and historical sites. It is believed in Christian tradition that the Holy Family visited this area and stayed at the site of Saints Sergius and Bacchus Church. Coptic Cairo was a stronghold for Christianity in Egypt until the Islamic era, though most of the current buildings of the churches in Coptic Cairo were built after the Muslim conquest of Egypt in the 7th century.
Cairo is the capital of Egypt. The city's metropolitan area is one of the largest in Africa, the largest in the Middle East and 15th-largest in the world, and is associated with ancient Egypt, as the famous Giza pyramid complex and the ancient city of Memphis are located in its geographical area. Located near the Nile Delta, modern Cairo was founded in 969 AD by the Fatimid dynasty, but the land composing the present-day city was the site of ancient national capitals whose remnants remain visible in parts of Old Cairo. Cairo has long been a centre of the region's political and cultural life, and is titled the city of a thousand minarets for its preponderance of Islamic architecture.

Egypt: Garbage City
Cairo’s Saladin Citadel, a medieval Islamic fortification which crowns the rock massif of Mokattam, is considered to be one of Cairo’s most popular tourist attractions. In the very same neighbourhood, at the foot of the cliffs, lies a less agreeable district of Egypt’s capital – a place called Manshiyat Naser, a place where the untouchables live in a city of their own, better known as Garbage City. The majority of these are Coptic Orthodox Christians. As a minority community subject to severe discrimination, here too – as religious beliefs prevent Muslims from handling refuse – the trash trade fell to the disadvantaged Coptic Christians so that today over 60,000 live from garbage segregation. There was, however, no-one to bring spiritual care for a population caught in the mud and degeneration until one man, Fr. Samaan decided to take these on as his flock.
