The Cave of Revelation on Patmos is located in the middle of the path from the port of Skala to Patmos town. Christian tradition maintains that within the cave the rock was torn open and from that tear, and three smaller tears which symbolize the Holy Trinity, was heard the voice of God dictating to John the text of Revelation. The cave was transformed into a place of worship by the founder of the Monastery of St. Christodoulos of Patmos. Today the entrance to the building of revelation descends several steps and you first enter the small church which is built right next to the cave. To your right you can see the imposing site of the cave.

Patmos has 37 monks besides 2000 inhabitants, 600 chapels, and a 100.000 tourists in summer… Still ancient Patmos weathers the onslaught of tourism in many unique ways. The monks, all 'local boys', who watch their parents till the soil and brothers sail the seas, carefully guard the integrity of their island and its community, from behind the great cloister walls. As if standing on the bridge of a ship, steering it through the tempest of time.

Patmos - Cave of the Apocalypse

The Cave of the Apocalypse where Apostle John wrote the Book of Revelation

Our guide takes us to the Cave of the Apocalypse and also tells us about the Greek Island of Patmos during our travel. The Cave (also referred to as the Holy Grotto) has a few niches in the stone from where the Apostle John rested his head and another where he used his hand to raise himself up in the shallow cave. Also, a triple fissure can be seen from where John heard the voice of God and which represented the Holy Trinity.
The Apostle John was exiled to the island of Patmos by the Roman Emperor Domitian. The Cave of the Apocalypse (Revelation) is where the Apostle John lived and where he heard the voice of God. “John’s Vison of Christ” is written in the Book of Revelation, Chapter 1, verses 9 to 20:
John’s Vision of Christ
9 I, John, your brother and companion in the suffering and kingdom and patient endurance that are ours in Jesus, was on the island of Patmos because of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus. 10 On the Lord’s Day I was in the Spirit, and I heard behind me a loud voice like a trumpet, 11 which said: “Write on a scroll what you see and send it to the seven churches: to Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia and Laodicea.”
12 I turned around to see the voice that was speaking to me. And when I turned I saw seven golden lampstands, 13 and among the lampstands was someone like a son of man, dressed in a robe reaching down to his feet and with a golden sash around his chest. 14 The hair on his head was white like wool, as white as snow, and his eyes were like blazing fire. 15 His feet were like bronze glowing in a furnace, and his voice was like the sound of rushing waters. 16 In his right hand he held seven stars, and coming out of his mouth was a sharp, double-edged sword. His face was like the sun shining in all its brilliance.
17 When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. Then he placed his right hand on me and said: “Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last. 18 I am the Living One; I was dead, and now look, I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades.
19 “Write, therefore, what you have seen, what is now and what will take place later. 20 The mystery of the seven stars that you saw in my right hand and of the seven golden lampstands is this: The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches, and the seven lampstands are the seven churches.

Amazing trip to Patmos to visit the cave where St John was given the Book of Revelation by God. I explore many Pagan Masonic witchcraft symbols on the island including finds at the cave and also at the monastery at the top of a mountain. This journey was amazing, emotional and almost the end of me when I got blood poisoning possibly by an insect bite or tainted food.

After a much needed body baptism in my luxurious hotel pool, I set out for the sole purpose of coming to the small, hilly island of Patmos.

Both rich in history and natural beauty. The island is also home to the final text and chapters of the Holy Bible. The Cave of the Apocalypse is situated about halfway up the mountain on the Aegean island of Patmos, along the road between the villages of Chora and Skala. This grotto is believed to mark the spot where John of Patmos received his visions that he recorded in the Book of Revelation.

Above that on the highest point of the capital city is The Monastery of St. John the Divine a fortified Orthodox monastery.

Even while filming in-between and around the “no photos or videos” rule, there is still much beauty captured from these places of peace and power.

The Book of Revelation often called the Revelation to John, the Apocalypse of John, The Revelation, or simply Revelation or Apocalypse is a book of the New Testament that occupies a central place in Christian eschatology. Its title is derived from the first word of the text, written in Koine Greek: apokalypsis, meaning unveiling or revelation. (Before title pages, books were commonly known by their first words, as is also the case of the Hebrew Five Books of Moses (Torah)). The Book of Revelation is the only apocalyptic document in the New Testament canon (although there are short apocalyptic passages in various places in the Gospels and the Epistles).[a]

The author names himself in the text as John, but his precise identity remains a point of academic debate. Second century Christian writers such as Justin Martyr, Irenaeus, Melito the bishop of Sardis, and Clement of Alexandria and the author of the Muratorian fragment identify John the Apostle as the John of Revelation.[1] Modern scholarship generally takes a different view,[2] and many consider that nothing can be known about the author except that he was a Christian prophet.[3] Some modern scholars characterise Revelation's author as a putative figure whom they call John of Patmos. The bulk of traditional sources date the book to the reign of the emperor Domitian (AD 81-96), and the evidence tends to confirm this.[4]

The book spans three literary genres: the epistolary, the apocalyptic, and the prophetic.[5] It begins with John, on the island of Patmos in the Aegean, addressing a letter to the Seven Churches of Asia. He then describes a series of prophetic visions, including figures such as the Whore of Babylon and the Beast, culminating in the Second Coming of Jesus.
