From Perito Moreno we took the Ruta 40 to the south. The Ruta 40 is stretching from La Quiaca in Jujuy Province in the north to Punta Loyola near Rio Gallegos in Santa Cruz Province in the south. The route parallels the Andes mountains. The southern part of the route, a largely unpaved road through sparsely populated territory, has become a well-known adventure tourism journey, although there are plans to pave the whole road. RN40 is the longest route in Argentina.
On our way to the south we visited de Cueva de las Manos (Cave of Hands). Cueva de las Manos is a cave or a series of caves located 163 km south of the town of Perito Moreno. It is famous for (and gets its name from) the paintings of hands. The art in the cave dates from 13,000 to 9,000 years ago. Several waves of people occupied the cave, and early artwork has been carbon-dated to 7300 BC). The age of the paintings was calculated from the remains of bone-made pipes used for spraying the paint on the wall of the cave to create silhouettes of hands.
After visiting the Cueva de las Manos we continued the Ruta 40 to the south and passed the night in the Estancia la Angostura.

Patagonia: Los Antiguos, Cave of the Hands, Pico Truncada, Comordoro Rividavia. Argentina travel trip. Santa Cruz Province. On the way to Los Antiguos, we stopped at Estancia Don Jose near the town of Rio Mayo. This ranch is one of 6 which raise guanacos for their wool. After lunch and a visit with some of the guanacos and a few rheas, we drove to Los Antiguos, a town near the Chilean border and on the shores of Lago Buenos Aires, the 2nd largest lake in South America. Here, we visited the Canon del Rio Pinturas and Cueva de las Manos where we viewed petroglyphs and pictographs dating back at least 9,000 years. Our guide, Harry, pointed out unique areas and drawings, like the one where the guanacos are chasing the hunters. At Pico Truncada we visited the wool scouring plant that processes the wool gathered at Estancia Don Jose. Our last night together was in Comordora Rividavia on the coast where we were treated to a lovely sunset and farewell dinner.

The next day, arriving past the changing grasslands of Patagonia, the last hope of Chile, Torres del Paine. We boast of staging from entrance. Are you alone? Yes. Are you here for the first time? I'm trying. I wish I could finish it. Where are you going? I'm going to the Mirador (observatory). I'll go a little faster. . Torres del Fais is proud to be one of the world's top ten wineries. My heart is getting bigger in the unexplored. A full-scale hike began. A small wooded forest road. Feeling the little sunshine, I climb the mountain trail. In Spanish, it is called Ciruli (small plum tree) and in English it is called Firebush. Because of the red flowers. I can see it in October and November. The scientific name is 'Embolium Coxinemium'. It is a very pretty tree. Evergreen. Compare that to other forests over there. This dark red flower keeps walking. How much it has gone up, the vast grasslands and blue lakes spread like paintings, and the rugged valleys melt in the ice caps. In short, it is spectacular. Although there are some passageways, most roads are perimeter roads. Feel the pure nature and the breath of the wild and enjoy the treking pleasure. The valley water and the ice core are the water that can feel the refreshing feeling by only viewing. Coolness deeply passes through the body. Under the mountain comes a voice. These are the local herdsmen Baki Ano. It is said that it carries necessary things in the mountain cottage. Patagonia to meet all four seasons in one day. The top of the mountain is a winter landscape that is different from the below. The cabin arrived in three hours. However, it does not operate in winter. About 45 minutes to the summit. From here, you must climb steep slopes. When the bridge is released, climbers climbing down the mountain clap their hands..

Brief Description
The Cueva de las Manos, Río Pinturas, contains an exceptional assemblage of cave art, executed between 13,000 and 9,500 years ago. It takes its name (Cave of the Hands) from the stencilled outlines of human hands in the cave, but there are also many depictions of animals, such as guanacos (Lama guanicoe), still commonly found in the region, as well as hunting scenes. The people responsible for the paintings may have been the ancestors of the historic hunter-gatherer communities of Patagonia found by European settlers in the 19th century.

UNESCO Heritage in Argentina Cueva de los Manos
Cueva de los Manos is a historical treasure represented in a Santa-Cruz cave. It has a great importance for a human history as it has paintings of human hands that date from 13 000 to 9 000 years ago. Researches showed that most of the hands are left and belonged to teenage boys, which might have been an admission ritual.

Patagonia Argentina - Los Antiguos
