Cavtat Croatia - Old Town and Beaches
Cavtat is a charming little town located less than 20 km south of Dubrovnik. The Cavtat area is most attractive because of the Mediterranean vegetation which covers the whole area. With its rich and interesting historical heritage, beautiful scenery and a wide range of tourist services, Cavtat is definitely among the most desirable tourist destinations of the region.
Originally it was a Greek settlement called Epidauros. Around 228 BC it was under the Romans and later became a Roman colony. Cavtat became part of the Republic of Ragusa in the 15th century.
The attractions of Cavtat is the Rector's Palace, the Baroque church of St. Nikola, the Franciscan monastery, Bogišić's scientific collection, the Vlaho Bukovac Art Gallery, the Račić Mausoleum, archaeological sites, city walls, the Šipun cave etc.
Numerous beautiful beaches are the main reason that Cavtat is a desirable summer destination for most visitors. Crystal clear and unpolluted sea depths offer perfect refreshment in the hot summer days.
Cavtat also offers a 7 km promenade by pine forests paths only a few meters from the sea.
Numerous bars and restaurants line the waterfront, offering everything from cheap pizza and simple pasta to more expensive local specialties and succulent fresh fish.
Cavtat is very well connected with major Croatian cities through Dubrovnik and Cilipi Airport, while local communications with the surroundings include ship and bus lines.
Although Cavtat is a small town, but it has a lot to offer....

Cavtat is a Croatian town located in Konavle Municipality, Dubrovnik-Neretva County, 20 km south of Dubrovnik. Cavtat has held a prominent place in the history of the region. Cavtat Croatia: an Alternative to Dubrovnik
Cavtat, Croatia is a super cool little town. You can easily avoid the crowds of Dubrovnik and still get some old architecture, medieval charm, and there are plenty of things to do.
We visited in the off-season, but it was obvious there was plenty of swimming, jet skiing, sun tanning, beach visiting to be had in Cavtat. There was also a 5 star hotel, Hotel Croatia, but it's pretty much a skeleton crew.
How to get to Cavtat from Dubrovnik? Easy, take the bus, and it's only 3 dollars.

We set off to Cavtat around 25 minutes from Dubrovnik and explore this beautiful little town. The weather wasn't so sunny, so we made the most of the cooler temperatures and ventured back to Dubrovnik to walk the city walls which was absolutely stunning, if a little tiring with the amount of steps!

In this video, you will join us for an early morning walk around the Cavtat Croatia coast where I will show you many of the beach-side bars and restaurants.
Today, Robyn is leaving Croatia to return to the U.K. It is my last day before I fly back to Australia.
You will see that there are no sandy beaches in Cavtat, just pebbles! The waters here are filled with sea urchins.
As we explore, we saw several abandoned buildings along the Cavtat coastline. These are all the remains from the war back in the 90s.

Delicious Food, Great Views, People Watch in Cavtat, Croatia
Friendship Flotillas pulled in and out of port all day in Cavtat. Friends charter yachts and sail en masse up and down the Adriatic Coast, stopping at gorgeous towns like this. The mother of all charter yachts happened to be docked, the sleek and beyond incredible Infatuation. The Cavtat harbormaster considers it the Rolls Royce of yachts.
Crystal clear water, restaurants, old ruins, sunshine, and...ta da...luscious ice cream. The Konobas (taverns) in Cavtat are based on Mediterranean cuisine: fish, vegetables, olive oil. Fresh figs. Good and reasonable wines. What more does a person need?
