Cayman Brac: True Caribbean Wilderness
Gamersbay Cayman:
On my first day in the Cayman Islands I got to visit their most remote island named Cayman Brac. It has a very small population, doesn't get a lot of tourism, and is largely unsettled. We went to see the bat caves, coral rock bluff cliffs, and had a chance to host an educational workshop with local children.
Cayman Brac | Cayman Islands Sotheby's Realty | Caribbean
Cayman Brac is the second largest of the Cayman Islands and lies 89 miles to the north east of Grand Cayman, just a short half an hour or so flight away. Only 12 miles long with an average width of 1.25 miles, Cayman Brac (known simply as ‘The Brac’ to locals) is about 15 square miles in size.
‘Brac’ is actually a Gaelic word for ‘bluff’ and as such Cayman Brac is named after its spectacular bluff or cliff, rising to 140 feet above sea level at its highest, making this the greatest elevation in the three Cayman Islands. Within this rocky terrain an enticing array of caves abounds and visitors can enjoy tours with local guides and hear wonderful and mysterious tales of old along the way. Dive sites here are top quality and include a 330 foot long Russian Brigadier frigate called the MV Captain Keith Tibbetts that was scuttled in 1996 and is now teeming with aquatic life.
The Brac enjoys a slower pace of life in comparison to its big sister, Grand Cayman. Visitors come to Cayman Brac to get away from it all, to enjoy all the benefits of Caribbean island life in a natural laid-back setting. Homes are modern and there are a good many ocean front and inland plots and properties for sale. For such a small island Cayman Brac boasts a level of infrastructure that is unlike most islands of comparable size in the Caribbean, this provides a significant increase to the value of real estate in The Brac.

Skull Cave, Cayman Brac
Named for its breathtaking bluff, Cayman Brac is off the beaten track but remains charming, allowing thrill-seekers and nature-lovers to get up close and personal with rare flora and fauna.
Cayman Brac has numerous caves for nature lovers to explore. Many of the caves are not easily accessible, though there are a few that are. Local tour guide, Gergory Banks, takes us on a tour of one of the easier accessible caves known as Half-Way Ground Cave or more commonly known as Skull Cave because of the close resemblance the cave has to a skull. Caving is among the most popular Cayman Brac activities. Book your Cayman Islands trip and discover why these natural beauties are an island favorite.
