Governor's Reef, Grand Cayman

I made a DIY camera pole out of a mop handle I found in the condo. Way easier than trying to travel with an actual camera pole!

Because the camera is an irregular surface, it jitters when you push it through the water fast. I improvised some stabilizing fins by cutting up a mouthwash bottle and screwing them into the GoPro's pole mount. They helped, at least when I wasn't trying to swim fast.

Sting Ray City with Ocean Frontiers!

We visited Sting Ray City with Ocean Frontiers on Grand Cayman on 10.10.19. We had a great time with these majestic, gentle giants all alone on the sand bar at sunset (after all the other tourists had left). Thanks again to our guides, Capt. Steve & First Mate Iain. This is a video of one of the 50 starfish we saw in the water at Starfish Point Grand Cayman. We took this with our brand new underwater camera and this is the last time the underwater camera worked so it really wasn't a very good underwater camera.

Oceanic Shoals Commonwealth Marine Reserve (CMR) 2012 pelagic baited camera surveys

A 21-day survey aboard the Australian Institute of Marine Science (AIMS) Vessel RV Solander was undertaken within the proposed Oceanic Shoals Commonwealth Marine Reserve (Timor Sea) between the 12th of September and the 6th of October 2012.

The voyage, initiated by the National Environmental Research Program Marine (NERP - Biodiversity Hub to guide the Australian Government’s marine bioregional plans, yielded valuable insights into the distribution, abundance and richness of pelagic marine species in the remote offshore waters of northwestern Australia.

The information gathered in this survey is being used to fill gaps in biodiversity knowledge and patterns of community assembly, associated physical drivers of marine biodiversity and provide a regional context to these patterns and processes.
