Cemeteries around the state are hallowed places that tell us a lot about our history, like Cedar Hill Cemetery in Vicksburg, one of the country’s oldest and largest cemeteries that’s still in use today. Then we head up to Friendship Cemetery in Columbus where our national Memorial Day holiday has its roots. Down Highway 61 in Natchez, many of the state’s first settlers found their resting places. Finally, the haunting story of Henry Vick at Chapel of the Cross in Madison County plays a central role in that area’s history.

One of the most striking antebellum mansions in Mississippi, Cedar Grove has, for all of its beauty, seen its fair share of tragedy. Originally the home of John and Elizabeth Klein, it was also the site of some of the family’s deaths. One of their sons was killed on the back porch stairs when a gun accidentally went off – he was just 17 years old – and a daughter and two young infants died here as well, with their deaths attributed to disease. John Klein enjoyed pipe smoking, and near his study the smell of a pipe is often caught. Elizabeth has frequently been seen throughout the house, acting as if she’s simply carrying out her usual day to day chores. The apparition of a little girl has also been seen coming down the main stairs, and footsteps on the back porch stairs have also been heard. Apart from activity linked to the family, many guests have reported seeing Civil War soldiers throughout the house and grounds – hardly surprising since the house was also a hospital during the Civil War.

The Most Haunted House in Mississippi McRaven - New Paranormal Activity Updated
You'd be hard pressed to find a Mississippi local who would argue against the fact that McRaven is the most haunted house in the state. Located in Vicksburg, Mississippi (formerly called Walnut Hills) the first section of the house was built by a highwayman named Andrew Glass in 1797. If you're unfamiliar with the term highwayman, it's basically a nicer way of saying robber. Glass made his living forcefully taking the money of unlucky travelers and McRaven was his hideout. The two room house was equipped with a removable ladder leading from the ground floor to the upper level, where Glass slept, and would be pulled up at bedtime to guard against possible retaliation for his thievery.

Classic Images (of Columbia, MD) first created this video titled Vicksburg: Key to the Mississippi for the 125th Anniversary re-enactment in summer 1988. Jack Foley and his team did a great job with these videos during the 125th cycle (1986 - 1990).
We hope you enjoy. This is another in a series of postings on our YouTube channel of a cool New series of Old videos -- featured only on here -- taken from a personal collection of re-enacting films and videos from the 1980s that can't be found anywhere else, or else we've tried to find them for nostalgia's sake, but did our own digging and presenting the results of our treasure hunt here. Some are taken from VHS originals or DVD transfers from those VHS copies. Originals were in Standard Def or Videotaped off of TV when they first aired. Some shot professionally and others by individuals with portable home video cameras on their shoulders.
Some Classic Re-enacting videos are already searchable on YouTube, but we wanted to start a new series of some rarely or never before seen classics that either only aired once or where short lived and available only to a select few at the time. We hope you enjoy. These programs presented in this RE-ENACTING RETRO series are presented for the enjoyment of all and we don't claim them for ourselves.
