Winter Oddity In Cedarburg WI - Wisconsin Garden Video Blog 746
See More Garden Goodies: - - - We learned about an unusual winter oddity in Cedarburg, WI last night on the evening news. Because of the warmer weather, snow melts, and river flood stage, one of the four dams created 20’ river foam build up above the ice surface. This is a rare foam event was larger than any in the past had ever seen. As long as we are filming in Cedarburg we thought we’d provide you with a quick tour of historic Cedarburg and Lynn’s childhood adventures. Cedarburg was founded in the early 1830’s by Irish and German immigrants establishing their homes and businesses around Cedar Creek.
This city has over 200 buildings currently on the historic register along with another 100 buildings on the outskirts of town. Only 20 miles north of Milwaukee, Cedarburg is powered by their locally owned utility company and features multiple festivals, cultural center, events, woolen mill, feed grain mill, Texaco’s iconic pagoda gas station, winery, specialty shops, family-owned restaurants, micro breweries, spas, churches, and award-winning schools.
This quaint town supports a population of approximately 11,500 and another 6,000 living in the surrounding area and offers one of the last free county fairs in the country. Despite this unusual winter oddity, this is a city worth adding to your Bucket List when visiting Wisconsin anytime of the year.

Around the Corner with John McGivern | Program | Rhinelander (#411)
[Latest Airdate: August 30, 2018]
[Original Airdate: April 2, 2015]
If you know what a Hodag is, you’re from Rhinelander. John is not, so he went on a weeklong hunting trip looking for a live one. No luck finding a real Hodag, but tons of luck finding great people and creating some cherished memories.
Wait until you see John drive the big rig at Ponsse North America. He won’t be forgetting that anytime soon! Nor will he forget how amazed he was to see those massive paper rolls at Expera Specialty Solutions, and to discover LiveAquaria (who knew?) at Doctors Foster and Smith, or how yummy it was to eat the fruits of his labor at Joe’s Pasty Shop. He might recall the many opportunities presented to him to catch fish, but what he’ll really remember is just skipping right to the eating of the fish at The Rhinelander Pub & Café. We tried really hard to get John to play snowshoe baseball, but he didn’t want a broken ankle to remind him that it’s not a great idea to run in snowshoes unless you’ve practiced!
Before we brought John to Rhinelander, he had never even heard of a Hodag. Next we’re looking for a community whose mascot is a Snipe...

Around the Corner with John McGivern | Program | New Glarus (#805)
[Original Airdate: January 31, 2019]
It doesn’t take long to figure out the heritage of New Glarus. If the Swiss flags or the edelweiss at Brenda’s Blumenladen don’t give it away, the Alpine architecture and the brown Swiss cows all over town sure will! You know that people are proud when they name their organizations after the city. That’s just what New Glarus Brewing Company, New Glarus Welding, New Glarus Kinderchor and the New Glarus Hotel Restaurant did, which made them really easy for John to find. And he was happy to be “Swissified” by Chef Roland Furst, cultural expert Peter Etter and Swiss shop owner Esther Zgraggen. He was surprised when he was asked to milk the animals at the Voegeli and Lucky Dog farms, but at least he was good at it! John may never get to the original Glarus in Switzerland, but who cares? New Glarus is better anyway!

Around the Corner with John McGivern | Program | East Town (#113)
[Latest Airdate: July 21, 2016]
[Original Airdate: April 19, 2012]
We wrap up the first season of Around the Corner with John McGivern where John starts and ends everyday -- East Town. As Milwaukee's center of commerce, people have always worked in East Town. The businesses are local and global, really big and really tiny. Places like the Pfister and London Cleaners have been here forever, but newcomers continue to add to this ever-changing community. In the last few decades, there's been a real resurgence of people who come to live and play here, too. Home to the theater district, the art museum, and some of the best restaurants and street food in the state, there's always something to do (and eat!). But as a resident, John invites you to hang out at Buckley's, on the W's or in Cathedral Square, and come grocery shopping with him and meet his friend, Madeline. John Gurda says it was called Juneau Town, it's been known as Yankee Hill, we all call it Downtown, but John McGivern calls East Town home. (13 of 13)
