CENOTES (SINKHOLES) - YUCATAN PENINSULA (MEXICO)
CENOTES IN YUKATAN PENNINSULA ARE HUGE ATTRACTIONS. THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD VISIT THESE SINKHOLES, JUST TO TAKE A REFRESHING SWIM. CENOTES ARE NATURAL PITS OR SINKHOLES. THESE ARE THE RESULT OF LIMESTONE COLLAPSING, WHICH LEADS TO EXPOSING FRESH GROUND WATER. SO, A NATURAL POOL IS CREATED. THE WATER INSIDE THE CENOTES IS VERY CLEAR, THANKS TO THE FACT THAT IT IS MAINLY RAIN WATER FILTERED THROUGH GROUND, LEAVING ALL DIRT PARTICLES BEHIND. SOME CENOTES ARE VERTICAL AND OTHERS ARE CAVERNS THAT CONTAIN POOLS AND PASSAGEWAYS. THERE ARE OVER 4,000 DISCOVERED CENOTES IN YUCATAN PENNINSULA. SOME CENOTES ARE FAMOUS FOR THEIR STALACTITES, STALAGMITES, THEIR SPECTACULAR LIGHT EFFECTS AND FOSSIL SHELS. CENOTES ARE LIKE LARGE AND BEAUTIFUL SWIMMING POOLS WITH THE CLEAREST WATERS EVER, IN THE MIDDLE OF THE JUNGLE.

THE BEST DAY OF MY LIFE!! (Cenotes, Mayan Ruins, & Rio Lagartos!!)
Where do we start.... in Valladolid, Mexico on the Yucatán Peninsula!! Visited an underground cave filled with crystal clear royal blue water called Cenote Palomitas. Then hitched a ride on a moto to the Mayan Ruins called Ek Balam, and was absolutely mind blown. But its not over there, besides taking taxis, collectivos, motorcycle rides, and buses, I ended up on a boat for the sunset. We headed to see the pink sands at Río Lagartos, and scored harder than I ever have in my life. We caught sight of dozens of pink flamingos flying into the sunset, with a full moon behind us and the shinning pink salts reflecting into the entire sky. I am so grateful to have experienced so much in one day. I feel like my trip is complete, and it's only day 2. So much love to you guys I hope you all get to visit these sites one day yourselves!!! Exploring the mysterious crystal clear waters of Cenotes Dos Ojos, Yucatan peninsula, Mexico
Cavern diving in the Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico -- Chacmool and Dos Ojos Cenote systems, Tulum.
My wife Neha and I dove in the caverns of the Chacmool and Dos Ojos Cenote systems near Tulum, Mexico in November, 2016. We visited the Little Brother and Kukulkan cenotes in Chacmool and we visted the Barbie line and the Bat cave in Dos Ojos.
Water temperature was around 77 F, and most places had crystal clear water with almost unlimited visibility.
My wife captured the videos using a GoPro Hero 4 (silver).

Buy keeping it wild and well cared you can now enjoy snorkeling, free diving, 3m cliff jumping, and even discovering underground cavern for more adventurist individuals like Mathieu Benoit :))
Without fail you will love it even to just enjoy picnic (dont forget to bring snacks, there is no restaurants) and get free fish spa massage while being in the water.
The entrance fee 80 pesos 5 usd and you can rent equipment for cheap at the same place. Opened 9am-5pm.
I hardly recommend to visit that magical naturally made place, but for now Enjoy Our Video from that trip ;)))) Dont forget to press HD button for better quality ;)))

Grand Cenote, Yucatan peninsula, Mexico
Grand Cenote, Yucatan peninsula, Mexico
We visited the grand cent after our trip to Chicen Itza. As the walk around the pyramid was very tiring and hot it was a real refreshing feeling to swim in this fantastic cenote. The water is crystal clear and you can see small and bigger black catfish swimming around you. I was wondering what they are feeding on. The re not dangerous, they did not touch anybody. The water felt really nice although a bit cold. You will see in the film it is very deep but you can swim with or without life saver vest. It was a fantastic experience.
Wild Mexico - Yucatan Cenote Life - Jump in!
Yucatan Canote Life. The Yucatan Peninsula is mostly a large limestone shelf and fresh water cenotes (wells) are where the Mayans who inhabited the area for thousands of years got their drinking water from. The cenotes were also an important part of religion and ceremonial cenotes were used in human sacrifices, like the Sacred Cenote by Chichen Itza. Cenotes are interconnected by underground rivers and a variety of fish and freshwater shrimp are found in them.

Scuba diving the longest underwater river system | Yucatan Peninsula, Playa Del Carmen, Mexico
#HighOnLife #HOLInspired #Mexico
Imagine deep underneath your feet are these dark caves that stretch on for hundreds of miles. Now imagine that these caves have been completely submerged in water for thousands and thousands of years. And that to navigate these caves, you’ve gotta scuba dive into it with flashlights. Pretty interesting right? According to our diving expert Kenzo, this was on the must-do, must-see list when we got back to Playa del Carmen.
Big thanks to El Taj Oceanfront and Beachside for hosting us.
Stay where we did:
The Yucatan Penisula is believed to be home of the longest underwater river system in the world. Watch as we explore Playa Del Carmen, scuba diving into a new world of hidden caves, sharks, cenotes and much more adventure.

Divers discover 215-mile-long cave in Mexico full of Mayan relics
A group of divers have connected two underwater caverns in eastern Mexico to reveal what is believed to be the biggest flooded cave on the planet, a discovery that could help shed new light on the ancient Maya civilisation.
The Gran Acuifero Maya, (GAM) a project dedicated to the study and preservation of the subterranean waters of the Yucatan peninsula, said the 347 kilometre- (216 mile-) cave was identified after months of exploring a maze of underwater channels.
Near the beach resort of Tulum, the group found that the cave system known as Sac Actun, once measured at 263 km (163 miles), communicated with the 83 km- (52 km-) Dos Ojos system, the GAM said in a statement. For that reason, Sac Actun now absorbs Dos Ojos.
The Yucatan peninsula of Mexico is studded with monumental relics of the Maya people, whose cities drew upon an extensive network of sinkholes linked to subterranean waters known as cenotes.
Some cenotes acquired particular religious significance to the Maya, whose descendants continue to inhabit the region.

CENOTE CRISTALINO, Quintana Roo Mexico
Cenote Cristalino, Playa Del Carmen, Mexico
'Cenotes are natural sinkholes carved by erosion on limestone, and they are quite common in the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico. They used to be sacred places for the Mayas, as they contained the most needed liquid for life! Now a days, you can feel one with Nature swimming in this crystal clear waters where you and the fishes are pretty much the same! '

Tulum | A day at Cenote Cristal after the Trav/Tav wedding
On May 18, 2019 our good friends Travis and Tavia got married in Tulum. This cenote adventure is the day after the wedding. Backflips, shotguns (we picked up the cans), and whiskey pulls galore, this certainly was an amazing experience to share with great friends.

Best Cenotes in the Yucatan
Our first-day trip when we got into Valladolid, a small town in Mexico we visited the San Lorenzo Oxman Cenote, one of the best Cenotes in the Yucatan. What an amazing way to start our travel in Mexico. It was very easy to get to Google Maps is correct when mapping it out. It was a short 10-minute drive from Valladolid. When you get there, you will notice a large red building that you walk up to and that's where you pay. You do have options when paying for entrance fees.
1. You can just pay to get into the Cenote which is 80 pesos
2. you can pay a hundred pesos and you get 50 back to use towards food in the restaurant.
3.You Pay 150 pesos and get the full amount back for the restaurant.
That's what we did and we're glad we did it the drinks were cheap the food was good and the pool was awesome to hang out at. The actual Cenote was beautiful. The water was warm, the Sun was shining in and it was very relaxing. They also have a rope swing which was really fun as well. Dark blue, crystal clear waters filled with fish it was a beautiful afternoon. if you're thinking of spending some time at a Cenote near or in the Yucatan, we highly suggest you take a trip to San Lorenzo Oxman Cenote. You will not be disappointed

Cenote, Chichen Itza, Mexico
Cenote comes from the Mayan word dzonot or ts'onot which means sacred well. Cenotes were the main source of fresh water for the ancient Mayan civilization. Mayans believed the cenotes contained curative elements and considered many of them to be sacred. They also believed cenotes to be portals to the underworld and a way to communicate with the gods. The Sacred Cenote (Cenote Sagrado) at Chichen Itza was used to perform human sacrifices!
Some of these beautiful natural sinkholes are open to the public. Here are the best cenotes to visit in the Yucatan Peninsula state of Quintana Roo. They are all located relatively close to Cancun and Playa del Carmen.
Called the Sacred Blue Cenote, Ik-Kil is a crystal clear, round, well-type cenote. Located on the highway between Chichen Itza (it's only a couple of miles away from the archeological site) and Valladolid, this cenote is about 130 feet deep! It is about 85 feet from the surface so you will need to walk down a wooden stairway to reach it. Ik-Kil is more popular with swimmers and snorkelers than divers. There is a restaurant and small palapa homes for overnight stays. Look for the waterfalls and the lush green vegetation hanging all the way down to the water!
Cenote Ik Kil is located 3 km from the archaeological site of Chichen Itza.
5 Must Do Adventures in the Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico
Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula is famous for Cancún, Playa del Carmen and Tulum, world-famous destinations attracting millions of visitors each year with their picture-perfect beaches and high-class resorts. But since we came to Mexico for it’s nature and culture, we were looking for adventures off-the-beaten-path in Yucatan. Today, we’d like to share our top 5 experiences with you.
01:09 Punta Laguna – head into the jungle with a local, Mayan guide, observe spider monkeys in the wild, kayak and zipline over a lively lagoon, spot some caimans and let them lower you into a hidden underground cenote.
02:43 Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve – known for it’s natural beauty and sustainable tourism, the reserve contains a beautiful stretch of beach with a off-shore coral reef and lively mangroves where you can spot birds, caymans and manatees.
03:18 Bacalar – not a big secret anymore, but the „Lagoon of Seven Colors“ with crystal clear water in all shades of blue is still worth a visit. Rent a kayak and paddle out to the „Canal de los Piratas“
03:40 Calakmul – one of the largest and most powerful ancient Maya ruins, nestled in the middle of a lush rain forest. Find yourself surrounded by wild animals while hiking through the widespread historical site and climb the highest structures for a spectacular view04:47 Ek Balam – a great alternative to Calakmul is Ek Balam, a Mayan site much more accessible and still less visited than most other ruins in the area
04:56 Cenotes – the natural highlight of the Pensinsula are around 3.000 sinkholes filled with fresh water. They’re an important habitat for plants and animals, considered as the entrance of the Mayan underworld and a perfect place to explore above and below the water surface. Find cliff jumps, rope swings (San Lorenzo Oxman Cenote) and spectacular places for snorkeling and scuba diving (Casa, Carwash, Dos Ojos, …).
If you’re interested in scuba diving the Cenotes or with the bull sharks living close to Playa del Carmen’s coast, check out our previous videos!

Yucatan Peninsula
We traveled through the states of Quintana Roo and Yucatán to discover Valladolid, El Cuyo, Laguna de Bacalar and many more Mexican wonders, and had the opportunity to film this with our friend Kaylee, a talented dancer.
The Yucatan Peninsula is one of the most magical places in Mexico, with its ancient Mayan ruins, cenotes, crystal clear water and of course, amazing beaches. Live it through this dream-like short film.
