Ik Kil is a well known cenote outside Pisté in the Tinúm Municipality, Yucatán, Mexico. It is located in the northern center of the Yucatán Peninsula and is part of the Ik Kil Archeological Park near Chichen Itza. It is open to the public for swimming and is often included in bus tours.
The cenote is open to the sky with the water level about 26 metres below ground level. There is a carved stairway down to a swimming platform. The cenote is about 60 metres in diameter and about 40 metres deep.
There are vines which reach from the opening all the way down to the water along with small waterfalls. There are black catfish which swim in the cenote. Cenote Ik Kil is sacred to the Mayans and the Mayans used this cenote for both relaxation and ritual services.

SWIMMING IN A 150 FEET SINKHOLE | Cenote Ik Kil, Yucatan, Mexico ????????
This vlog picks up after I visited the Mayan ruins at Chichen Itza. The Cenote Ik Kil is truly an amazing natural wonder! It is a natural sinkhole that is 85 feet below ground level and about 150 feet deep. It's about a mile away from the Chichen Itza archaeological site which was very convenient for us that day. I really wish that I would have arrived there a little earlier in the day. I totally recommend visiting this place! It's the perfect place to take a dip and cool off after walking around all day.

El Cenote Ik-kil en Chichén Itzá Yucatán. Se encuentra ubicado a 3 kms de la zona arqueológica de Chiche Itza, 35 minutos de la ciudad colonial de Valladolid y a solo una hora y media de Mérida, la ciudad blanca.
El principal atractivo de Ik Kil es el Cenote, que en su superficie se encuentra adornado de vegetación y en el que se puede ver la profundidad en la que s encuentra. Para llegar deben bajar por una escaleras hechas de piedra y en donde encontraras pequeños balcones para que admires su belleza desde diversos puntos, al llegar hay una plataforma que da acceso a sus aguas frescas y cristalinas en la que se pueden ver sus pequeños bagres que viven en él. Este lugar es ideal después de que usted haya visitado las ruinas mayas de Chichén Itzá o Ek Balam, pues encontrara alivio al refrescarse en sus aguas frescas.
El horario de visita al cenote es de 8:00 AM a 17:00 PM todos los días.

Mexico's cenotes are an amazing natural phenomenon, found only on the Yucatan peninsula and in some islands of the Caribbean. Natural dips in the karst relief, filled with underground waters, form mysterious wells and tunnels. The ancient Mayans called them gates to the realm of the dead and considered sacred. Ik Kil - the place where the wind is born, is considered one of the deepest and most beautiful cenotes. An underground lake with a depth of up to 40 meters of almost perfect rounded form stretched for 60 meters in diameter. At first it was a cave, and only then, under the influence of heavy precipitation, the ground fell from above, revealing an underground lake. When you go down to the lake, you can admire the viewing platforms with an amazing landscape: hanging roots of trees, a small waterfall and stalactites. The water in the cenote is warm enough and has a greenish tinge. Tourists line up to jump into this sacred lake from a high cliff. In the cenote there are ladders and ropes, for which you can hold to stay longer in the sacred water. Cenote Ik Kiel is one of the most visited places on the Yucatan peninsula.

Вода в сеноте достаточно теплая и имеет зеленоватый оттенок. Туристы выстраиваются в очередь, чтобы прыгнуть в это священное озеро с высокой скалы. В сеноте есть лестницы и веревки, за которые можно держаться, чтобы подольше побыть в священной воде. Сенот Ик Киль -- одно из самых посещаемых мест на полуострове Юкатан.

Cenote comes from the Mayan word dzonot or ts'onot which means sacred well. Cenotes were the main source of fresh water for the ancient Mayan civilization. Mayans believed the cenotes contained curative elements and considered many of them to be sacred. They also believed cenotes to be portals to the underworld and a way to communicate with the gods. The Sacred Cenote (Cenote Sagrado) at Chichen Itza was used to perform human sacrifices!
Some of these beautiful natural sinkholes are open to the public. Here are the best cenotes to visit in the Yucatan Peninsula state of Quintana Roo. They are all located relatively close to Cancun and Playa del Carmen.
Called the Sacred Blue Cenote, Ik-Kil is a crystal clear, round, well-type cenote. Located on the highway between Chichen Itza (it's only a couple of miles away from the archeological site) and Valladolid, this cenote is about 130 feet deep! It is about 85 feet from the surface so you will need to walk down a wooden stairway to reach it. Ik-Kil is more popular with swimmers and snorkelers than divers. There is a restaurant and small palapa homes for overnight stays. Look for the waterfalls and the lush green vegetation hanging all the way down to the water!
