Organic vegetable market in Bhutan, 1990's
You would be wondering seeing different people in different dresses buying fresh organic vegetables back in 1990's in Bhutan.
most vegetables in the Farmer’s Market are seasonal, the dried chilies are the only permanent feature throughout the year. you will see a display a wide variety of green and red long chillies, potatoes, brinjals and other vegetables. Men are wearing the traditional attire known as Gho and Women are wearing Kira.
Vegetables like Olachaotho, naakeei , phachaa , rai saag and etc are easily available in the jungles of Bhutan but too hard to find in India.
It might give a stroke to someone with the fact that, it costs 1000 Ngultrum for a kilo of dried traditional red chillies.

Thimphu Weekend Farmers Market
A preview of the Bhutan Thimphu Weekend Farmers Market:
Thimphu Bhutan Weekend Market
On Saturdays and Sundays, farmers come to the weekend market to sell their stuff.
Paro Farmers' market, with fresh produce from across Bhutan
Bhutanese farmers sell organic vegetables, Bhutanese incense sticks, home made cheese and local rice at Paro vegetable market in Bhutan. In Paro vegetable market, one of the sellers is selling local eggs, local cheese (datsi), chilli powder, black pepper and she also sells fruit like mangoes brought in from India, pears, bananas, apples and local rice. Another vegetable vendor sells vegetables like radish, egg plant, cabbage, tomatoes, beans, turnips, onions, lettuce and potatoes. The farmer sells local rice varieties of Paro and roasted rice (zow / zaw) while another woman sells a variety of incense sticks and also Bhutan Cordyceps tea and Himalayan gooseberry herbal tea called Tsheringma tea. The market setting seems clean and organised.
Most of the Bhutanese depend on agriculture for their source of income and to earn their living. The Bhutan agriculture policy of going Organic by 2020 has inspired local farmers to produce more local produce.

Bhutan farmers' market and Thimphu by night - 1990's archival
Thimphu is a store house of traditional Bhutanese art, architecture, culture, and tradition and above all still so pure. Groups of villagers from different district comes to sell organic vegetables. You can smell all the different types of incense, some yak cheese, Bhutan antique handicrafts, etc…The Handicrafts stores displays a wide variety of hand woven and crafted products like masks, prayer wheels, decorative motifs, handmade paper, rings and ornaments, and woven wool or silk clothes, precious stones etc…
You even get the national newspaper Kunsel published both in English and dzongkha languages in the Sabji Bazaar. The pricing of the newspaper back in 1990's was 8 Rupess. The lady in the video is reading the title, Bhutan celebrates His Majesty’s coronation anniversary .
Heaven of sound Tingsha, Tibetan Cymbals is soothing played by the Bhutanese man and is wearing a good piece of earring made of Turquoise and Coral in it.
Seems its Diwali as the town is beautifully decorated with lights to celebrate the Coronation of His Majesty JIgme Singye Wangchuck. The father of king Jigme Singye Wangchuck became the fourth monarch in 1974 and his coronation ceremony saw the entry of foreign media for the first time in Thimphu.
Enjoy
