Part 1: Triple Meet on the Spine Line, Cambridge, Iowa: Setting the Scene
Tuesday, March 6, 2012, 3:43 PM. We parked the car in Cambridge and walked east the quarter mile down the Heart of Iowa rail trail to the bridge over Union Pacific's Spine Line. There were two stopped trains, one north and one south. This first video simply sets the scene by showing both stopped trains (if I would ever figure out how to edit my videos, I'd make this into one big one). We couldn't tell at first which direction the south train was heading; it turned out we were looking at a single headlight on a rear DPU.

Make a Smile - Cedar Rapids, Iowa
:) Make A Smile is a group of Correctional Staff volunteers from across the country who volunteer their time and talent to help others. It was formed after Katrina to help communities after a natural disaster, especially by rebuilding parks. It is their hope that by providing a safe, fun, and quality place to go children will be impacted in a positive way. In June 2010 Make A Smile descended upon Cedar Rapids Iowa where horrific flooding had occurred 2 years before. This is a growing event in our area the Cambridge Iowa Multi engine and warbird flyin, Hosted by the C.I.A. club! This video is taken from my Balsa USA 1/3 pup with two cameras mounted back to back on a pan and tilt setup. ThePup is powered with a Toni Clark gear reduction on a G38 turning a 32 inch prop ! it was scorching hot untila slight crosswind moved in.. Everyone hid in the shade and drank cold liquids between flights. It was a very fun day at any temperature.

2015 Ballard East Literacy Luau and Book Drive
The Ballard East Elementary in Cambridge, Iowa is holding a book drive during the month of March and concluding with a literacy luau party on March 26th from 5:30 to 7:30pm.
Donate new or gently used books, preferably for 3rd-5th grade students or donate money towards buying new books.
Books can be dropped off at Ballard East Elementary School or Huxley Communications.
Book collection is now until March 25th. Books will be distributed to 3rd-5th grade students at the Ballard East Literacy Luau on March 26th.

Ralph Waldo Emerson (May 25, 1803 – April 27, 1882) was an American essayist, lecturer, philosopher, and poet who led the transcendentalist movement of the mid-19th century. He was seen as a champion of individualism and a prescient critic of the countervailing pressures of society, and he disseminated his thoughts through dozens of published essays and more than 1,500 public lectures across the United States.
Emerson gradually moved away from the religious and social beliefs of his contemporaries, formulating and expressing the philosophy of transcendentalism in his 1836 essay Nature. Following this work, he gave a speech entitled The American Scholar in 1837, which Oliver Wendell Holmes Sr. considered to be America's intellectual Declaration of Independence.Emerson wrote most of his important essays as lectures first and then revised them for print. His first two collections of essays, Essays: First Series (1841) and Essays: Second Series (1844), represent the core of his thinking. They include the well-known essays Self-Reliance, The Over-Soul, Circles, The Poet, and Experience. Together with Nature, these essays made the decade from the mid-1830s to the mid-1840s Emerson's most fertile period. Emerson wrote on a number of subjects, never espousing fixed philosophical tenets, but developing certain ideas such as individuality, freedom, the ability for mankind to realize almost anything, and the relationship between the soul and the surrounding world. Emerson's nature was more philosophical than naturalistic: Philosophically considered, the universe is composed of Nature and the Soul. Emerson is one of several figures who took a more pantheist or pandeist approach by rejecting views of God as separate from the world.He remains among the linchpins of the American romantic movement, and his work has greatly influenced the thinkers, writers and poets that followed him. When asked to sum up his work, he said his central doctrine was the infinitude of the private man. Emerson is also well known as a mentor and friend of Henry David Thoreau, a fellow transcendentalist.
