My Vertical Caving Experience at Central Cave, Catbalogan Samar
Central cave is not just a beautiful paradise but is also an exciting cave that every ‘explorer’ should visit. Among the other caves in the Philippines, this one is more special because the only way to enter is to conquer your fear of heights and rappel an 18-meter vertical drop down to the main chamber. It’s like a huge mansion (height of a 5 storey building) without any doors or windows except for one small hole in the ceiling and the only way out is to climb and push your body up using an ascender attached to a rope.

Connecting Caves in Samar
In early April of 2017, six Italian cavers and four Slovenian cave divers arrived in Samar province in the Philippines. Their goal: to connect two previously explored long caves in the mountain town of Matuguinao. They succeeded in linking the Sulpan Barruz Cave and Sulpan Male-ho Cave, and also found new passages and smaller caves connecting to the main caves. The cave system, according to Matteo Rivadossi, team leader, is now 32.100 kms. long -- possibly the longest cave now in the Philippines.
