Avoca NE Swell Fun
A grey morning surf - no magnificent sunrise shots this morning.
Just fun waves. You can tell there is a bit of power in the waves when boards start having minds of their own and start trying for freedom.

Stay Safe at the Beach Day - Avoca Beach
On Wednesday 30 November Gosford City Council, Wyong Shire Council, Northern Settlement Services, Surf Lifesaving Central Coast and Centrelink hosted the annual Stay Safe at the Beach Day at Avoca Beach.
Following an early morning session which was open to the public, the day involved a number of workshops for local school, TAFE and university students.
The students took part in a rock fishing demonstration and safety talk, a 'Science of the Surf' workshop with Dr. Rob Brander, along with some beach and water games and activities.
Students also enjoyed a visit from the Westpac Rescue Helicopter, with emergency staff going through a number of training drills and exercises on the beach.

3-MINUTE CONSTITUENCY STATEMENT
SURF LIFE SAVING CLUBS
LUCY WICKS MP
Today I rise to acknowledge the incredible work done by thousands of lifesavers right across the Central Coast community.
There are 15 clubs on the Coast, including 8 in my electorate of Robertson, and they form an army of red and yellow volunteers who in the past 75 years have helped to make Central Coast beaches amongst the safest in the world.
I was delighted to learn of this year's statistics from Surf Life Saving Central Coast -- that in 2013 -14 there were 956 lives saved, 37,322 preventative actions, and more than one-thousand first aid cases .... And no lives lost.
There are more than 8-thousand members, with 2-thousand of them patrolling on the sand and in the water for a combined time of more 94-thousand hours. Every single club member is deserving of praise, but I want to make mention of those volunteers and clubs in my electorate who received an award on Saturday Night at the Surf Life Saving Central Coast Awards of Excellence.
They include....
• Robert Powell from Umina Surf Life Saving Club for Assessor of the Year
• Jane Davis from Ocean Beach Surf Life Saving Club for Trainer of the Year
• Lynn Smith won the Administrator Award for her work at Ocean Beach
• Peter Lambeth also from Ocean Beach was crowned with the Lifesaver of the Year Award
• Avoca Beach Surf Life Saving Club had two major winners -- Damien Benson for Coach of the Year and Kevin Bootle collected the President's Award
• Cath Wilson from from Terrigal Surf Life Saving Club won the Award for SurfCom Operators
• Tim Schofield picked up the Open Athlete of the Year Award and Paul Lemmon the Masters Athlete Award -- both are from Terrigal
• The Junior Lifesavers of the Year on the Central Coast are Jackson Heinze from Terrigal and Jasmine Darwin who's based at Umina Surf Life Saving Club
• Ocean Beach won the Patrol Championships and First Aid Awards
• There were individual Champion Lifesaver Awards to Jemma Smith, Teigan Miller and Jack Waining from Umina; and Jason, Jordan and Shelley Smith from Ocean Beach
• Finally -- the overall club point-score for the Champion Lifesaver Award went to Avoca, and Umina won Club of the Year.
Thank you to the Surf Life Saving Club Presidents in my electorate:
• At Terrigal -- Mardi Love
• North Avoca -- Rick Parsons
• Avoca Beach -- Garry Clarke
• Copacabana -- Gay Langbridge
• MacMasters Beach -- Vince Roberts
• Killcare -- Leah Fotofili
• Ocean Beach -- David Unger
• Umina -- Paul Sharpe
Special mention must be made to President Stuart Harvey and CEO Mr Chris Parker. Thank you finally to Surf Life Saving Central Coast Finance, Events & Administration Officer Marie Ward and Support Officer Jonathan Donnelly for your hard work and support.
In relation to Terrigal, Mr Deputy Speaker, I declare an interest. My husband and I have recently joined Terrigal Surf Life Saving Club. We were honoured to be able to complete the Bronze Medallion a couple of months ago.
We've joined the patrol and I have to say it was one of the hardest but also the most rewarding experiences I can remember.
The sense of team-work and connection and desire to make a difference is something that really binds the surf life-saving volunteer community together.
Volunteers on Central Coast beaches, and indeed in New South Wales and right around Australia, give of themselves tirelessly, week after week, month after month, year after year, with one aim in mind -- to keep our local residents safe and to keep our beaches safe, to keep the thousands of tourists who visit the Central Coast safe in the water over summer and on the weekends.
Today I want to pay tribute to them -- I thank our tireless volunteers in what has to be one of the most honourable volunteer roles you can have -- that of seeking to serve and to save lives.
AVOCA BEACH
Avoca Beach has multiple things to offer, the pristine waves are always rolling and surfers are always about! There are multiple surf schools that operate on this particular beach making a great family outing with loads of fun! The lagoon offers a playground for the pups with this beach being dog friendly! Another great thing about Avoca beach is the markets that are held on the last Sunday of every month.
This beach is also great as it has a fully functioning surf club with life guards on patrol!
Find out more about Avoca and what it has to offer on the Visit NSW website!
