Conolly's Plot. The plantation is named in honor of H.V. Conolly, the then Collector of Malabar during the British rule who was instrumental in planting teak in the entire Nilambur area with the help of Shri Chanthu Menon ,a forest officer under him. The plot extends across 2.31 hectares beside the Chaliyar river at Aruvakode, where the longest steel hanging bridge takes visitors across. This plantation was done about 150 years ago around the years 1842-1844 and was thus known as the world's first teak plantation. The plot has also been acclaimed for having the oldest living teak tree (girth 420 cms & height 46.5 meters) and Shri Chanthu Menon, was laid to rest in this very teak garden , Conolly's plot, as a mark of honour. edit
• The Teak Museum, (4 km away from the town, on the Nilambur-Ooty state highway). The world's first Teak Museum. In the Teak Museum, a visitor can have a first hand information on all aspects of teak. Established by the Kerala Forest Research Institute in collaboration with the Kerala Forest Department, it is thematic museum housing historical, cultural and aesthetic and scientific aspects of teak, all under one roof, arranged in the two storied building. A collection of bamboo trees on the way to the museum imparts a special beauty to the place. The carved teak door at the entrance of the museum has a painting of the oldest living teak tree, the Kannimara teak.Among the several exhibits displayed, the root system of a mature teak tree is perhaps the most interesting of all. Paintings on the walls remind one of the early histories of teak planting. The miniature model of an antique sailing vessel made of teak wood and a painting of a sailing ship are the other attractions. Logs of a 116-year-old tree have also been preserved. A world literature on teak is available in the library. edit
• Bio Resources Park with butterfly park is also near by.
• Nedumkayam, (18 km from Nilambur town, on the Karulai route). Noted specially for its rich rain forests. The wooden rest house built here by the British offers a panoramic view of the elephants and deers grazing in the forest near by . One has to get prior permission from the Forest Department to enter the forest zone. Heavy restrictions are imposed as a measure to save the existing forest land. An elephant taming center is also here. edit
• Adyanpara Waterfalls, (In Kurmbalangod Village). Famous for its plendor of the wooded jungle surrounding it. This cascade is a spectacle of unrivalled grandeur. The wild beauty of this place is a rare treat for the eyes and heart of the travellers. edit
• Aruvacode, (Small village near Nilambur). Land of potters and pottery works. The village has become famous for the presence of its potters. With the influx of cheap industrial substitutes, these villagers had all but lost their interest in the traditional skills, but for a small movement led by activist-designer K B Jinan who , rekindled their hope. Together, they explored the possibilities of terra-cotta suited for the modern context and Kumbham was born. Today Kumbham is hailed as a rare instance of a traditional artisan community rehabilitating itself through the very craft they have been alienated from. Over the last few years many a product has come out of their kilns which are notable for their form as well as function. Kumbham products now find wide acceptance in households, corporate offices, hotels and resorts. edit
• Central Forest Nursery. This is one of the four central forest nurseries in Kerala and was established during the year 1997, at Valluvassery by the Kerala Forest Department. With a view to meet the requirements of good quality planting stock of important plantation species like teak, eucalypts, acacias, etc., the nursery is fully equipped to produce root trainer seedlings and rooted cuttings of these species in required quantities. The average annual production of the nursery during the past three years was: 150 000 teak root-trainer seedlings, 120 000 eucalypt seedlings, 50 000 seedlings of acacias, and 90 000 seedlings of miscellaneous species. edit
• Primitive Tribes-Cholanaickers, (In Valamthode, can be reached only from Kozhikode through the Areekode-Mukkam road, a half hour journey from Nedumkayam, or 27 km from Nilambur). Through the dense forests, by jeep takes one to Mancheri, the home of the Cholai Naikars, a primitive tribe. Yet another tribal settlement of this region is on the hilltops of Valamthode. edit
• Koviliakams-Residence of the local Rajas. Nilambur town is also famous for housing a cluster of kovilakoms, the residences of the local rajas or rulers of earlier days. These structures are famous for their beautiful frescoes and artworks in wood. The Nilambur Pattu, an ancient festival, which is noted for its Kalampattu or ritual powder drawing on floor, falls in the month of January.

Wild boar, Asiatic elephants and Spotted deer in Bandipur National Park
Wild boars, Asiatic elephants ans Spotted deer in dry forest of Bandipur National Park, Karnataka, India.
Wild boar or wild pig (Sus scrofa) is a species of the pig genus Sus, part of the biological family Suidae. The species includes many subspecies. It is the wild ancestor of the domestic pig, an animal with which it freely hybridises. Wild boar are native across much of Northern and Central Europe, the Mediterranean region (including North Africa's Atlas Mountains) and much of Asia, including Japan and as far south as Indonesia. Populations have also been artificially introduced in some parts of the world, most notably the Americas and Australasia, where they are regarded as both an important food resource and an environmental threat. Elsewhere, such as England, populations have reestablished themselves after escapes of wild boar from captivity in areas where they had previously been extirpated.
The Asian or Asiatic elephant (Elephas maximus) is the only living species of the genus Elephas and is distributed in Southeast Asia from India in the west to Borneo in the east. Three subspecies are recognized—Elephas maximus maximus from Sri Lanka, the Indian elephant or E. m. indicus from mainland Asia, and E. m. sumatranus from the island of Sumatra. Asian elephants are the largest living land animals in Asia.
Since 1986, E. maximus has been listed as endangered by IUCN as the population has declined by at least 50% over the last three generations, estimated to be 60--75 years. The species is primarily threatened by habitat loss, degradation and fragmentation. In 2003, the wild population was estimated at between 41,410 and 52,345 individuals. Female captive elephants have lived beyond 60 years when kept in semi-natural situations, such as forest camps. In zoos, elephants die at a much younger age and are declining due to a low birth and high death rate.
The chital or cheetal also known as chital deer, spotted deer or axis deer, is a deer which commonly inhabits wooded regions of India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan, and in small numbers in Pakistan. The chital goes by various names in India, among which include: chital horin in Bengali, thith muwa in Sinhalese, jinke in Kannada, pulli maan in Tamil and Malayalam, jinka in Telugu, phutuki horin in Assamese, haran/harin in Marathi, and hiran in Hindi/Urdu (the latter two derived from harini, the Sanskrit cognate for 'deer'). It is the most common deer species in Indian forests. The name chital comes from the Bengali word chitral /chitra, which means spotted. The chital is monotypic within the genus Axis, but this genus has also included three species that now are placed in Hyelaphus based on genetic evidence.
Bandipur National Park, established in 1974 as a tiger reserve under Project Tiger, is a national park located in the south Indian state of Karnataka. It was once a private hunting reserve for the Maharaja of the Kingdom of Mysore. Bandipur is known for its wildlife and has many types of biomes, but dry deciduous forest is dominant.
The park spans an area of 874 square kilometers (337 sq mi), protecting several species of India's endangered wildlife. Together with the adjoining Nagarhole National Park (643 km2 (248 sq mi)), Mudumalai National Park (320 km2 (120 sq mi)) and Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary (344 km2 (133 sq mi)), it is part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve totaling 2,183 km2 (843 sq mi) making it the largest protected area in southern India.
Bandipur is located in Gundlupet taluq of Chamarajanagar district. It is about 80 kilometers (50 mi) from the city of Mysore on the route to a major tourist destination of Ooty. As a result, Bandipur sees a lot of tourist traffic and there are a lot of wildlife fatalities caused by speeding vehicles that are reported each year. There is a ban on traffic from the hours of dusk to dawn to help bring down deaths of wildlife.

Teak Tree (Tectona grandis)
Teak (Tectona grandis) is a tropical hardwood tree species placed in the flowering plant family Lamiaceae. The word teak comes from Tamil tekku (தேக்கு), Malayalam thekku (തേക്ക്) via the Portuguese teca. The plant is known in Sinhala as Thekka (තේක්ක) among the Sri Lankan people and Segun (সেগুন) in Bangladesh.
Tectona grandis is a large, deciduous tree that occurs in mixed hardwood forests. It has small, fragrant white flowers and large papery leaves that are often hairy on the lower surface. It is sometimes known as the Burmese teak. Teak wood has a leather-like smell when it is freshly milled. It is particularly valued for its durability and water resistance, and is used for boat building, exterior construction, veneer, furniture, carving, turnings, and other small wood projects. Tectona grandis is native to south and southeast Asia, mainly India, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Myanmar and Bangladesh but is naturalised and cultivated in many countries in Africa and the Caribbean. Myanmar's teak forests account for nearly half of the world's naturally occurring teak. Molecular studies show that there are two centres of genetic origin of teak; one in India and the other in Myanmar and Laos.CP teak (Central Province teak) is a description of teak from the central states of India.[6] Nagpur teak is another regional Indian teak. It produces small, white flowers arranged in dense clusters (panicles) at the end of the branches. Flowers contain both types of reproductive organs (perfect flowers)
Tectona grandis was first formally described by Carl Linnaeus the Younger in his 1782 work Supplementum Plantarum. In 1975, Harold Norman Moldenke published new descriptions of four forms of this species in the journal Phytologia. Moldenke described each form as varying slightly from the type specimen: T. grandis f. canescens is distinguished from the type material by being densely canescent, or covered in hairs, on the underside of the leaf, T. grandis f. pilosula is distinct from the type material in the varying morphology of the leaf veins, T. grandis f. punctata is only hairy on the larger veins on the underside of the leaf, and T. grandis f. tomentella is noted for its dense yellowish tomentose hairs on the lower surface of the leaf.
Tectona grandis is one of three species in the genus Tectona. The other two species, T. hamiltoniana and T. philippinensis, are endemics with relatively small native distributions in Myanmar and the Philippines, respectively.Tectona grandis is native to India, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Myanmar, northern Thailand, and northwestern Laos.
Tectona grandis is found in a variety of habitats and climatic conditions from arid areas with only 500 mm of rain per year to very moist forests with up to 5,000 mm of rain per year. Typically, though, the annual rainfall in areas where teak grows averages 1,250-1,650 mm with a 3-5 month dry season.

The Spirit of Christmas | Santa Claus Is Coming To Town | Christmas Songs For Children
Christmas song Lyrics:
Christmas season has come now
Time to spread the message of love
The streets are filled with whitey snow
All the trees are set to glow
The song on the streets fills the air
With peace and hope to all we care
And that’s how Christmas, meant to be…
Yaa-ee ..Yaa-ee..eei
It’s the spirit of Christmas…..
It’s the spirit of Christmas…..
It’s the spirit of Christmas…..
It’s the spirit of Christmas…..
Christmas time is here, at last
The joyful times are here to last
Ice-cream shakes and lots of sweets
Fruits and nuts and other treats
Let us show all that we CARE
All we got to do is SHARE
And that’s what Christmas means you see…
Yaa-ee ..Yaa-ee..eei
It’s the spirit of Christmas…..
It’s the spirit of Christmas…..
It’s the spirit of Christmas…..
It’s the spirit of Christmas…..
Christmas mood has set in here
Smiling faces are every where
Time for cheer and time for glee
Spread your love for the world to see
Love is kindness that we show
The more we give the more it grows
And that’s what Christmas means you see
Yaa-ee ..Yaa-ee..eei
It’s the spirit of Christmas…..
It’s the spirit of Christmas…..
It’s the spirit of Christmas…..
It’s the spirit of Christmas…..
All the children look around
Santa Claus is coming to town
With a load of many sweets and gifts
To give them all to the lovely kids
kids who respect the elders well
Will get something more to tell
And that’s how Christmas goes, you see
Yaa-ee ..Yaa-ee..eei
It’s the spirit of Christmas…..
It’s the spirit of Christmas…..
It’s the spirit of Christmas…..
It’s the spirit of Christmas…..
Aunts and uncles, cousins too
All of them with gifts for you,
Think of little ones, who don’t have
Now is the time to show you care
Gift them some that you can
You have joined the Santa clan - and
That’s the Christmas you should plan
Yaa-ee ..Yaa-ee..eei
It’s the spirit of Christmas…..
It’s the spirit of Christmas…..
It’s the spirit of Christmas…..
It’s the spirit of Christmas…..
Merry Christmas to all….and a Happy New Year…
