STREET FOOD AT CENTRAL MARKET | Phnom Penh, Cambodia
Street food is plentiful in Phnom Penh, Cambodia and Central Market is one of the biggest, most popular markets in this bustling city. Offering a range of items from fresh produce, clothing, general house hold needs to fresh street food.
I was so excited to be back to Phnom Penh after so long. As we were casually strolling down the street on our way to Central Market, I ran into a little lady selling Tofu with Ginger Soup. The tofu was so soft and creamy, it literally vanished in my mouth. The ginger soup gives the tofu a sweet and subtle spice which really goes well for this little dessert.
Once arrived to Central Market, we had a walk around before settling on some amazing looking food! I saw some Jackfruit Sticky Rice, which could be compared to the popular dessert Mango Sticky Rice. This dessert had Mung Beans inside the sticky rice, cooked in coconut milk and sugar, topped with fresh jackfruit. The rice itself and Mung Bean was a little hard, which showed that the freshness was not up to par. The best part about this dessert was the jackfruit, which was sweet and fresh.
Next up was the Fried Chive Cakes. This delicious little treat brings back memories as my mom use to make them. Basically a rice cake that is wrapped with fresh chives, deep fried and drenched in fish sauce. The cooked chives in the center along with the soft chewy rice cake in the middle and crispy deep fried outer, gives these particular treats a delicious texture and taste.
Finally, is one of my favorite noodles dishes of all time. It is a traditional Cambodian dish called Num Banh Chok. The soup of this dish is made up mostly of fish meat and lemon grass. The soup is poured onto a bed of vermicelli noodles and vegetables of all kinds. Actually, my favorite thing about this dish is the mountains and mountains of vegetables which gives it such a great crunch. The Num Banh Chok here is amazing, tasting very authentic and full of flavor.
Be sure to visit the Central Market when you are in Phnom Penh. This market has an amazing array of merchandise and food galore. You will be sure to keep yourself occupied here.
Central Market is located in the center of Phnom Penh, so there are many ways to get here. Taxi, tuk tuk, motorbike or Grab App is always a good option. Depending on where you're staying, you could always walk here as well like we did!

I take you around the Central Market here in Phnom Penh. The market is easy to find via Google map and all the tuk tuk & taxi drivers know where it is. I recommend using Grab tuk tuk though as this way you know the price before you book. Some of the tuk tuk drivers will try and rip you off.
The market is packed with many kinds of vendors and goods in bulk. If you like markets and trying to get a bargain then add this place to your “to do list”

Central Market Phnom Penh Cambodia 2019
Filmed on my last trip to Cambodia early this year
The dark-yellow Art Deco Phsa Thmei (New Market) is also referred to as the Central Market, a reference to its location and size. It was constructed in 19937.
The Art deco building is shaped in the form of a cross with a nice central dome. And has four wings filled with shops selling gold and silver jewelry, antique coins, fake name-brand watches and other such items.
Phnom Penh Central Market Tour/Tips
Phnom Penh in my opinion has one of the coolest looking markets in Southeast Asia, the art deco Central Market. The Khmer name of the market is ផ្សារធំថ្មី, Phsar Thom Thmey, which technically translates to New Grand Market in English. When it opened in 1937 it was considered the largest market in Asia. Even today it's easy to see it dwarfs markets like Saigon's Ben Tanh Market. The ceiling of the dome area reaches 26 meters with four arched arms that house many stalls from tshirts, to pots and pans. Ever since I first saw it I was attracted to it's grand scale and the market itself is very interesting, almost a theme park for shoppers and food lovers. In the main dome you'll find gold, gems, watch, and jewelry sellers. The four arms are somewhat categorized with either clothing, electronics, or household items. This market is not solely focused on tourists as you'll see by the traditional Khmer clothing for sale along with everyday household items, hardware, and more. The perimeter area is my favorite place to wander as it's where you'll find the wet market and food area with all kinds of special Cambodian delicacies from dried fish to sweets. There's also a large dining area where you can sample local favorites including all kinds of noodle soups and bbq seafood. This is my 3rd visit to Phnom Penh in the last 4 years. During this current visit I spent almost every day wandering around the market for an hour or so to familiarize myself with the layout and to observe some of the little everyday things that some people might miss if they only visit it once, like the area where they slide the ice into the market for chipping. I hope you enjoy the video and subscribe to channel! I have a passion for exploring East Asia, Southeast Asia, and South Asia and have made it the focus of my life for the past 6 years. I also have a podcast I would love you to check out! Feedback is always welcome:
KHMER FOOD at CENTRAL MARKET in PHNOM PENH | Cambodia
Hello Friends
This time I am in Phnom Penh, Cambodia !
In This Video we would be exploring some Local Khmer Food in the City and specifically at the heart of the city of Phnom Penh in CENTRAL Market. Khmer cuisine (Khmer: សិល្បៈខាងធ្វើម្ហូបខ្មែរ) or, more generally, Cambodian cuisine, is the traditional cuisine of the people of Cambodia. Average meals typically consist of more than one dish and ideally contrast flavours, textures and temperatures within the meal using plenty of herbs, leaves, pickled vegetables, dipping sauces, edible flowers and other garnishes and condiments.
Rice is the staple food in Cambodia, and it is part of every meal, both as an accompaniment and used as an ingredient for many dishes. According to the International Rice Research Institute, there are 2,000 rice varieties indigenous to Cambodia that were developed over centuries by Cambodian rice farmers. Rice is eaten throughout the day in the form of street-side snacks, such as deep-fried rice cakes with chives and spinach, for breakfast, as in Cambodia's famous rice noodle soup kuyteav or rice porridge, and in many desserts. Plain white rice is served with nearly every family meal, typically served with grilled freshwater fish, a samlor or soup, and an assortment of seasonal herbs, salad leaves and vegetables.

Hi guys, this is our vlog.
This Segment we've visited to:
CENTRAL MARKET KNOWN AS PSAR THMEI (NEW GRAND MARKET)
The Central Market (Khmer: ផ្សារធំថ្មី, Psah Thom Thmey, New Grand Market), is a large market constructed in 1937 in the shape of a dome with four arms branching out into vast hallways with countless stalls of goods. Initial designed by Jean Desbois (1891 Cherbourg -1971 Lorient). Construction works were supervised by French architect Louis Chauchon (1875 - 1945 Saigon) and the ingenue Wladimir Kandaouroff.
It is located in Cambodia's capital city, Phnom Penh. When it first opened in 1937, it was said to be the biggest market in Asia; today it still operates as a market. From 2009 to 2011, it underwent a US$4.2 million renovation funded by the French Development Agency.
We just want to share to some of our friends who'd like to visit and may add to your travel list of the places of information we went. Our Journey is your journey!

I am a video director by trade. Each time I travel to a new country I bring a cameraman with me, usually a friend, to shoot as many episodes as possible in a short amount of time (usually a week). The rest of the time I’m working as a video director/videographer in Vietnam and editing the crap out of these videos.

$2 T-shirt Phnom Penh ???????? CENTRAL MARKET
Legend says that Phnom Penh Central Market sells everything that you could possibly ever need - from luxury watches (at a percent of their original cost) to fresh lively seafood and every pair of clothings that this world has ever made. The good part is, you can even bargain to get a cheaper more affordable price.
The truth is, Cambodia's still depends on tourism (an important supporting factor) to blossom its economy. Do not be weary and spend those extra money. A dollar might seem little to you, but it is a lot to them.
