Today the authorities are bringing destruction, in our Yaroslavl region we have had tens of factories destroyed. The rural area is actually in a sad condition. The authorities are talking about stability, but today it is a stability of poverty, a stability of dying out. That's why it's those in power who are destructive, people are dying out and factories are being destroyed under their rule. We need authorities that would help create things.

It would mean the support of the people, the support of the middle class and the poor people, all this is in Zyuganov and the Communist Party's programme.

STORYLINE
With one week to go until the Russian presidential election, the city of Yaroslavl on Sunday celebrated Maslenitsa, a traditional Russian holiday marking the end of winter.
As people took part in the festivities, some mused over the upcoming elections and what it could mean for this region that gave the Kremlin the least support in the parliamentary elections last December.
Located on the river Volga some 230 kilometres (143 miles) north of Moscow, and with a population of 600-thousand, Yaroslavl boasts that it is staging Russia's most important Maslenitsa festival.
Thousands of people have flocked to the city centre, a UNESCO world heritage site, to take part in traditional activities, including eating pancakes and drinking tea, as well as beer and vodka, in the streets.
Yaroslavl is at the heart of a region that gave the fewest votes to the ruling United Russia party in December's parliamentary elections.
The Kremlin-backed party suffered massive defeats in the region, receiving only 29 percent of the vote, compared with 49 percent of the vote nationwide.
Just four years ago, United Russia received 34 percent of the vote in Yaroslavl.

Russia River Cruising with Scenic | David Whitehill in Moscow - Part 1

Read below for full transcript:
For many Australians I'm sure that Russia doesn't immediately jump into your top five countries to visit, so over this week with a bit of help from my friends at Scenic Tours I am going to scour this land and show you why the old USSR is starting to turn heads.
We're kicking off our Russian journey in the capital of Moscow the former Soviet state has opened its doors to the world and tourism has stepped on in.
Being the largest country on Earth is a bit of a drawcard of course.
The Russians have had their fair share of conflicts and when they’re victorious they do like to show off a little and build enormous monuments.
Scattered throughout Moscow are some pretty impressive tributes and Scenic make sure you take in all the iconic sites including the infamous Red Square.
Red Square is quite a popular places isn’t it?
Guide: “yes it is visited by lots of tourists locals just love it they come here to celebrate new year, well that is the heart of the city of Moscow. It was known as Trade Square in the 15th century because here we have the market and from the 17th century gorgeous present claim red square which meant beautiful”
The square proudly boasts one of Moscow’s most famous sites Saint Basil's Cathedral. Built to outshine any church of its time it stands as a testament to Ivan the terrible and it definitely gets its fair share of photos.
But there's something that you need to know about this place, see when Ivan the Terrible unfortunate name apparently a lovely guy came up with the concept of this magnificent structure behind me he was so impressed with the finished product that he called the architects in
and ask them if there was any way they could replicate what they had done?
Of course they said yes so to stop them Mr. Terrible had them blinded. Ah the sheer joys of working in the 16th century
In a city that’s home to more than 12 million people you can expect the traffic to be a little hectic and I can tell you right now that Moscow sometimes comes to a complete standstill so if you want the smart way to check out all the highlights you got to take to the water ways.
Many of the city's highlights are dotted along the canals and the cruise gives you just enough time to get ready for the Moscow Metro.
Some Scenic adventurers, nine million locals and close to 10,000 trains a day, this is serious business.
One of Moscow's must-sees is also the office of the Russian president welcome to the Kremlin.
Russia has been a superpower for centuries and when you get here you start to get the feeling that they're slowly opening up their secrets to the rest of the world.
I mean who thought that you would ever have the chance to stand here in the center square of the Kremlin.
But this is the new Russia and we have Scenic on our side, these walls once housed the most important secrets of one of the most influential countries in the world.
Well when in Russia.

???????? Trump sacks Rex Tillerson, replaces him with Mike Pompeo | Al Jazeera English
US President Donald Trump has sacked Rex Tillerson as secretary of state and replaced him with CIA Director Mike Pompeo. The move by Trump is the biggest shakeup of his cabinet since taking office.
Reports surfaced last October that Trump was looking to replace the embattled Tillerson with the CIA director. Tillerson, a former top executive for the energy giant Exxon, took office on February 1, 2017.
The US president and now-outgoing secretary of state have not seen eye-to-eye on a number of issues including the Gulf crisis.
Al Jazeera's Kimberly Halkett reports from Washington DC.
