Last adventure of the trip we decided to head to the famous Central Market hall in Budapest. What treasures can we bring home from the markets?
Do you know of any other impressive markets in the world I should visit?
Great Market Hall ( Nagyvásárcsarnok ) - Budapest Hungary
The Great Market Hall or Central Market Hall (Hungarian Nagyvásárcsarnok) is the largest and oldest indoor market in Budapest, Hungary. The idea of building such large market hall arose from the first mayor of Budapest, Károly Kamermayer, and it was his largest investment. He retired in 1896 so when the building was completed, he participated in the opening ceremony as a citizen.

The Central Market Hall (officially called 'Központi Vásárcsarnok' in Hungarian) is the largest indoor market in Budapest, Hungary.
It is favored not only by tourists but many locals do their everyday shopping there too. You can find a large selection of sausages, meats, cheeses, fruits and vegetables on the ground floor. Food stands and plenty of vendors selling handicrafts, clothing, embroidery, chessboards and other souvenirs can be found on the second floor.
However, if you're thirsty for some wine, Hungarians here say you have to buy a bottle of Tokaj wine. They're the best in Hungary!
Stay cool!

SUMMER 18' is a documentation of my summer holiday. Me, Hopi, Michael and Angel all went around Europe for two weeks visiting Barcelona, Split, Budapest and Paris. It was an incredible trip and I filmed it all so I could look back have these memories archived.
We tried some of the best local food made in the Budapest Market! I really liked goulash, like alot. Then we just explored around the market just like we did a year ago.

BUDAPEST, HUNGARY | FOOD REVIEW AT GREAT MARKET HALL
Great Market Hall, Budapest
------
Great Market Hall, otherwise known as Central Market Hall is a great place not just for your meals, but also for you to get your local souvenirs.
The basement of the market hall consists of fishmongers and stalls selling interesting flavoured pickles.
The ground floor consists of stalls selling meat as well as fruits and vegetables from around the world. More notably, you can definitely get a HUGE variety of paprika here, either for your own indulgence, or as gifts back to your loved ones.
Walk up a flight of stairs and you will be greeted with a stretch of souvenir shops selling traditional hungarian costumes as well as the usual magnets and keychains. Also on the second floor, are a number of food stalls selling authentic local food such as lángos and beef goulash. There are also a few restaurants which offer a more comfortable ambience, but of course the prices are higher as well.

TOUR OF THE GREATEST FOOD MARKETS IN BUDAPEST -- True Guide Budapest
Budapest is famous for its market halls that sell delicious local produce, fresh fruits and vegetables and also a range of Hungarian arts and crafts. Join me on a tour of some of the city's finest food markets, including the famous touristy market and some less known hidden gems.
(1) The Great Market Hall
address: 1-3 Vamhaz korut, district IX, Budapest
An architectural glory that is unquestionabl one of Europe's finest indoor markets. A must visit location, but do keep in mind , that it is now mostly for tourists. It actually does have a useful ALDI supermarket in the basement. Visit the the top floor, for great views of the city, but I recommend that you avoid the jungle of food stalls as they only look authentic, are overpriced and of not good quality.
(2) Hold street market, now named Downtown market
address: Hold utca 13, district V, Budapest
A truly hip place where everything revolves around culinary delights. You will find amazing little eateries which serve as a lunch spot for many business people. Either go for local food or try something more exotic.
(3) Lehel square market
address: Vaci u. 9-15, district XIII, Budapest
Located in the residential area of district XIII, it is very easy to reach by metro line 3. It is as authentic as it gets, this is where the city stocks up on fresh produce, not many tourists make it here. Super fresh and cheap. Weird looking building though!
(4) Teleki tér market
address: Teleki László tér, district VIII, Budapest
Located in the most disadvantaged district of the city known as Jozsefvaros (Joseph city). Underwent a successful urban regeneration program. If you are adventurous and want to see a very different face of Budapest, consider a visit here.

I am a proud local Hungarian living in Budapest.
I was born and have lived in this beautiful city, Budapest for decades. I am in love with it - and not because I haven’t seen anything else. I am a seasoned traveller and I have also spent many years living abroad. However, my heart (and wife, and jobs and goulash soup and lángos) have pulled me back to my birth town. I love this city and know it inside out.
If you are fed up with the formal (and often wrong) recommendations of guide books, then follow my channel to find advice from a real local. I give you practical tips, show you cool spots and help you avoid tourist traps.
I live and love Budapest, I want to share my tips with you.
Great Market Hall // Central Market Hall // Budapest [4k]
The Great Market Hall in Budapest (in Hungarian Nagycsarnok or Vasarcsarnok) was built in 1897, and is the most beautiful and largest of all Budapest market halls (yes, there are more historical market halls in Budapest, like the one in Hold Street called the Downtown Budapest Market Hall.
The market hall is not only ‘Great’ in its size, but is also great in other aspects. Most importantly the market is also central, no wonder it is also called the Central Market Hall, for both of its location (5 min walk from the city centre), and the volume of trade taking place here on a daily basis. See the Opening Hours of the Great Market Hall here.
If you love fresh goods, people watching, shopping, photo opportunities, guided tours with tastings, or just sightseeing in amazing places, we trust you will enjoy visiting our beloved Great Market Hall. No matter if it rains or shines, the Great Market Hall is a great option, and definitely one of the top Budapest attractions according to many Budapest guides.
You can get all sorts of goods on the 3 floors of the Great Market Hall of Budapest: fruits, vegetables, dairy products, fantastic salamis, pickles, fresh fish, Hungarian paprika, Tokaj wines, various souvenirs, bags, clothes, pans and pots, and even home style meals, or Hungarian snacks like Langos at the upper floor food stands and eateries.
Opening hours
Mon 6am – 5pm
Tue – Fri 6am – 6pm
Sat 6am – 3pm
Sun closed
