JAPAN Part 3 Takayama a Beautiful City in Gifu Prefecture Central Honshu
Music - Komputo, Hanagoyomi, Cast of Pods & Ferris Wheel , Courtesy of YouTube Music Library.
So, here we have Part 3 of our Japanese holiday tour of Central Honshu. We take the Shinkansen, and The bullet train does not disappoint! What a fantastic way to travel, this was a big thrill for me!
On arrival in Takayama, a city 1900ft in the hills, we head for dinner in a traditional Japanese restaurant - YUM!
Next day we have a walking tour of Takayama's hi-lights. This place is a photographers paradise, so I'm snapping away like crazy. The buildings are beautiful and so atmospheric and well, so Japanese! Sadly by early afternoon, it starts to rain again, but I keep on shooting, often under an umbrella! We enter the Festival Float museum, but have missed the the spectacular procession by about 10 days sadly!
Anyway, Part 4 will feature the Gassho-style houses of Shirakawa-go, a Unesco World Heritage Site. However, the weather, once again, is not looking good!

Utsunomiya (宇都宮市 Utsunomiya-shi, Japanese: [ɯᵝt͡sɯ̃ᵝno̞mija̠]) is the capital and largest city of Tochigi Prefecture, in the northern Kantō region of Japan. As of May 2015, the city had an estimated population of 518,200, and a population density of 1,240 persons per square kilometre (3,200/sq mi). Its total area is 416.85 km2 (160.95 sq mi). Utsunomiya is famous for its gyoza (pan fried dumplings). There are more than two hundred gyoza restaurants in Utsunomiya.
Greater Utsunomiya (宇都宮都市圏 Utsunomiya Toshi-ken) had a population of 888,005 in the 2000 census. The nearby city of Oyama is included in Greater Tokyo, but Greater Utsunomiya is not, despite the two areas amalgamating somewhat. It is the 10th most populated city in the Kantō region.
- HISTORY
Archaeologists have uncovered evidence that the area of Utsunomiya has been continuously settled since the Japanese Paleolithic period onwards, and numerous burial mounds from the Kofun period are found within its borders. The Utsunomiya Futarayama Shrine (宇都宮二荒山神社), which is the Ichinomiya of Shimotsuke Province claims to have been founded in 353 AD. The town of Utsunomiya developed around this shrine, and the area was under the control of the Utsunomiya clan, an offshoot of the Fujiwara clan from the Heian through Sengoku periods, and was destroyed by Toyotomi Hideyoshi.
During the Edo period, the Utsunomiya area was ruled by a succession of daimyō clans under Utsunomiya Domain, and prospered from its location at the junction of the Nikkō Kaidō and the Ōshū Kaidō. During the Bakumatsu period Boshin War, the Battle of Utsunomiya Castle was a major conflict in the northern Kantō area. Following the Meiji restoration, Utsunomiya was briefly (1871–1873) part of Utsunomiya Prefecture, which was then merged into the new Tochigi Prefecture, and became capital of the prefecture in 1884. Utsunomiya became an important garrison for the Imperial Japanese Army.
With the establishment of the municipalities system on April 1, 1889, the town of Utsunomiya was officially established. At the end of the 1889, Utsunomiya had a population of 30,698 making it the third most populous municipality in the Kantō area, after Tokyo and Yokohama. Utsunomiya was raised to city status on April 1, 1896. On July 12, 1945 much of Utsunomiya and the surrounding areas were destroyed in the American Bombing of Utsunomiya during World War II.
The city limits were expanded from 1951 to 1955 by annexing neighboring Suzumenomiya town and Hiraishi, Yokokawa, Mizuhono, Kunimoto, Shiroyama, Tomiya, Toyosato, and Sugatagawa villages and the part of Shinoi village from Kawachi District and Kiyohara village from Haga District. In 1996, Utsunomiya was designated a core city within increased autonomy. On March 31, 2007, Utsunomiya absorbed the towns of Kamikawachi and Kawachi (both from Kawachi District), pushing the population of Utsunomiya City over 500,000.

THE FOURTH ANNIVERSARY MEMORIAL FOR JAPAN'S EARTHQUAKE AND TSUNAMI VICTIMS

Toshiyuki Komaba, Chef-Owner of Rocare Ascia, Morioka, Iwate Prefecture
Toshiyuki Komaba was born in Morioka. His original Italian restaurant, Rocare Ascia, was located in Yamada on the coastline of central Iwate Prefecture. When the Earthquake hit, he and his wife were in the restaurant preparing for a post-renovation opening three days later. Caught in the tsunami, his wife was drowned, and Komaba was swept out to sea. He narrowly escaped death by crawling onto the roof of his house, which was now adrift in the ocean. After being rescued, he was carried through the flame-engulfed city, first by people and then by ambulance, to the Miyako Hospital ICU, where his life was saved. He had suffered six broken ribs, a deeply lacerated right wrist, and a nearly-severed right thumb. Receiving encouragement from other chefs and observing soup-runs for survivors, he realized the importance of what he could do for and through the power of food. He joined the Soul of Tohoku, a volunteer organization launched by chefs all over Japan, and worked in various food-related activities. He subsequently reopened Rocare Ascia in Morioka. Currently, with the support of the Iwate Education Committee, he volunteers as a cooking teacher at elementary and junior high schools in the affected areas. His goal is to teach the importance of food and food producers to the young people who will play important roles in society in 10 or 20 years. He also plans to open new venues where food producers and consumers can connect. His work is focused on the recovery of local communities, and his mission is to share the healing power of food as one of the essentials of our lives.

Takamatsu, Japan - Takamatsu Station (2019)
Takamatsu Station (高松駅 Takamatsu-eki) is a railway station on the Yosan and Kōtoku lines in Takamatsu, Kagawa, Japan. It is operated by the Shikoku Railway Company (JR Shikoku).
The station is the terminus of the Yosan Line and the Kōtoku Line.
The station opened on 21 February 1897. With the privatization of JNR on 1 April 1987, the station came under the control of JR Shikoku.
Takamatsu (高松市 Takamatsu-shi, Japanese: [takaꜜmatsɯ]) is a city located in central Kagawa Prefecture on the island of Shikoku in Japan, and is the capital city of the prefectural government. It is designated a core city by the Japanese Government. It is a port city located on the Seto Inland Sea, and is the closest port to Honshu from Shikoku island. For this reason it flourished under the daimyōs (feudal lords) as a castle town in the fiefdom of Takamatsu, during the Edo period. Takamatsu is a city with a large concentration of nationwide companies' branch offices, which play a large role in its economy, and it contains most of the national government's branch offices for Shikoku. The castle tower formerly used as the symbol of the city was destroyed during the Meiji period. In 2004, construction of the Symbol Tower, the new symbol of Takamatsu, was completed. The Symbol Tower is located in the Sunport area of the city. The Symbol Tower is the tallest building in Takamatsu, and is right next to another tall building The JR Clement Hotel (formerly the ANA Clement Hotel), which is also part of the Sunport complex.
The Sunport Takamatsu covers the area of the Symbol Tower, the JR Clement Hotel, and a miniature mall called Maritime Plaza. The Takamatsu Bus station is also located right next to Maritime Plaza. Various Buses including the Kotoden Bus run through town, to Ritsurin Park, and to the airport. Sunport Takamatsu is also connected to the ports of Takamatsu.
The Takamatsu metropolitan region has a population of 838,788 (as October 1, 2005), making it the largest in Shikoku.[citation needed] Takamatsu Airport is located in Takamatsu.
On September 26, 2005, the town of Shionoe (from Kagawa District) was merged into Takamatsu.
On January 10, 2006, Takamatsu absorbed the towns of Aji and Mure (both from Kita District), the towns of Kagawa and Kōnan (both from Kagawa District), and the town of Kokubunji (from Ayauta District) to create the new and expanded city of Takamatsu.

A Day in Moriya with Ate Doris! (Watch in HD)
Moriya is located in southwestern Ibaraki Prefecture, bordering on Chiba Prefecture to the southwest. The city is surrounded by three rivers, the Kinugawa, Kokaigawa and the Tone River, one of the longest rivers in Japan. In terms of area, it is the smallest city in Ibaraki Prefecture. It is located approximately 35 kilometers from central Tokyo.
I travel whenever I get time to travel and people ask me the same question, Why do you travel or why do you waste money on travel and I normally look at their faces that what should I answer them cause anyway they will never get to understand the answer unless you do it yourself. Seeing is believing and I agree with everyone. It's education, exposure, learning, exploring, management, cultures, dealing, problem solving etc.
Life is short, so live it well! Travel, see the world, explore.
Dare to dream. Dare to be different.
Keep uploading, keep travelling.
