San Mateo Park, California by Drone - Presented by Ed Stephens
One of this country’s best kept secrets, San Mateo Park, is one of the most beautiful and unique residential communities within The United states. While known within its’ immediate vicinity, San Mateo park remains virtually unknown to the outside world, a secluded enclave, vigilant against the encroachment of progress and change.
San Mateo Park is located on the San Francisco Peninsula, 20 miles south of San Francisco, adjacent to the towns of Hillsborough and Burlingame, and within a short commute to Silicon Valley, and Biotech companies.
San Mateo Park was originally a part of the Mexican Land Grant, Rancho San Mateo. In the late 19th century, San Mateo Park was a dairy land cattle ranch owned by the Clark family, remembered by spectacular gateway to San Mateo Park, Clark Drive.
San Mateo Park was founded in 1896, when the City Beautiful movement was at its’ peak. Noted architect George Howard Jr. teamed with Landscape architect, John McLaren, the designer of Golden Park, E. W. McClellan, the founder of McClellan’s nursery, and City Planner Davenport Bromfield, the Planner for such communities as Carmel California, to create a residential community that would stand out as one of the foremost tributes to residential design excellence.
Together, this stellar team laid out the narrow, gently winding streets with every intersection meeting at a landscaped circle, crescent, or square, with most streets also having wide landscaped medians Thousands and thousands of trees, selected by McLaren and Mclellan, and many transplanted from the San Francisco World Fair, were planted on the formerly barren landscaped. Noted architects, Bernard Maybeck, Willis Polk, and Julia Morgan designed magnificent country homes, many in the arts and crafts style, most now restored to their former glory. 120 years later, The Park, as San Mateo Park is called by its’ residents and admirers has achieved and faithfully secured the vision of its’ illustrious founders and architects. The now tree canopied roads that meander through the gently rolling foothills, and the now lush circles, crescents and squares are sheltered beneath towering Palms, Pines, oaks, and among many other trees from around the world.
Once within San Mateo Park, the bustling outside world is non-existent, as one is enveloped in a bucolic, private environment of un-president Beauty and charm.

Japanese Gardens in San Mateo and netsuke-inspired poem
Adding yet another small gem to our collection of the places to visit on a weekend in San Francisco Bay area. It’s going to be a place of relaxation created with ancient art of landscaping in mind.
Japanese Garden is in the middle of the city of San Mateo, in its Central Park. It was designed by Nagao Sakurai, the landscape architect of the Imperial Palace of Tokyo.
The place was built in the nineteen sixties but the curious thing about gardens is that the older they are the more spectacular they became. It's a great place to relax and take pictures of flowers, trees and garden sculptures, watch bright-colored fish.

An Afternoon In The Golden Gate park *
At the very end of our summer trip we end up in San Francisco to leave the RV so with a few hours to spend in San Francisco we decided to take a visit to the Golden Gate Park. Being so big we only have time for the Japanese tea Garden and a little walk in the park. In Fact I don’t think we made 10% of this park.
Golden Gate Park is a 412-hectare American wilderness area (4.5 km2, approximately 5 km by 800 meters) located in San Francisco, California.
It is the largest park in the city and its area exceeds that of Central Park New York. It is administered by the San Francisco Recreation & Parks Department and ranks as the third most visited public park in the United States

San Francisco: Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART)
Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) is a rapid transit public transportation system serving the San Francisco Bay Area in California. The heavy rail elevated and subway system connects San Francisco and Oakland with urban and suburban areas in Alameda, Contra Costa, and San Mateo counties. BART serves 48 stations along six routes on 112 miles (180 km) of rapid transit lines, including a ten-mile spur line in eastern Contra Costa County which utilizes diesel multiple-unit trains and a 3.2-mile (5.1 km) automated guideway transit line to the Oakland International Airport. With an average of 423,000 weekday passengers and 124.2 million annual passengers in fiscal year 2017, BART is the fifth-busiest heavy rail rapid transit system in the United States.
BART is operated by the San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit District, formed in 1957. The initial system opened in stages from 1972 to 1974. As of 2018, it is being expanded to San Jose with the Silicon Valley BART extensions.

The Japanese Tea Garden in San Francisco, California, is a popular feature of Golden Gate Park, originally built as part of a sprawling World's Fair, the California Midwinter International Exposition of 1894. Though many of its attractions are still a part of the garden today, there have been changes throughout the history of the garden that have shaped it into what it is today.
The oldest public Japanese garden in the United States, this complex of many paths, ponds and a teahouse features plants and trees pruned and arranged in a Japanese style. The garden's 3 acres contain sculptures and structures influenced by Buddhist and Shinto religious beliefs, as well as many elements of water and rocks to create a calming landscape designed to slow people down.

About Menlo Park:
Menlo Park is a city at the eastern edge of San Mateo County, in the San Francisco Bay Area of California, in the United States. It is bordered by San Francisco Bay on the north and east; East Palo Alto, Palo Alto, and Stanford to the south; Atherton, North Fair Oaks, and Redwood City to the west. Menlo Park is one of the most educated cities in the state of California and the United States, with nearly 70% of its residents over the age of 25 having earned a degree.[7] Menlo Park had 32,026 inhabitants according to the 2010 United States Census.[8]
Geography[edit]
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 17.4 square miles (45 km2), of which 9.8 square miles (25 km2) is land and 7.6 square miles (20 km2) is water. The total area is 43.79% water. Menlo Park is long and narrow on a northeast to southwest axis. The northeast portion borders the San Francisco Bay and includes the Dumbarton Bridge that connects Menlo Park to Fremont on the east side of the bay. The city shoreline includes the city's largest park, Bedwell Bayfront Park 160 acres (65 ha) and the Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge.[9] San Francisquito Creek marks much of the southeast border of the city. West Menlo Park (not part of the city despite its name) along Alameda de las Pulgas nearly separates the southwestern part of the city (known as Sharon Heights) from the rest. The extreme southwest is clipped by Interstate 280.
The Bayshore Freeway (part of U.S. Route 101) traverses Menlo Park northwest to southeast near the shoreline and somewhat parallel to it to the southwest is El Camino Real. The intersection of El Camino Real and Santa Cruz Avenue is considered the heart of the city. Nearby, the Menlo Park Civic center is bounded by Ravenswood Avenue, Alma Street, Laurel Street and Burgess Drive. It contains the council offices, library, police station and Burgess Park which has various recreational facilities. Other major roads include Sand Hill Road in the Sharon Heights area.
The residential areas of Menlo Park are unofficially divided into several neighborhoods. Belle Haven is the only neighborhood east of the Bayshore Freeway; much of the rest of that area is business or protected land. Between Middlefield road (a road almost parallel to Bayshore) and Bayshore are the neighborhoods of the Willows, Suburban Park, Lorelei Manor, Flood Triangle, Vintage Oaks, and South of Seminary (the seminary being Saint Patrick's Seminary). Between Middlefield and El Camino Real are Felton Gables, Linfield Oaks, and Park Forest. West of El Camino Real until the hills are the neighborhoods of Downtown Menlo Park, Central Menlo Park, and Allied Arts (sometimes also known as Stanford Park, it is named for the Allied Arts Guild in it). In the hills are Sharon Heights and Stanford Hills. Several other neighborhoods are closely associated with Menlo Park but are actually in unincorporated San Mateo county; these include Menlo Oaks and Fair Oaks (latter part of the North Fair Oaks census area) between Bayshore and Middlefield, University Heights (also known as West Menlo Park) between Sharon Heights and most of the rest of the city, and Stanford Weekend Acres which is somewhat near Stanford Hills.[10]
Top employers[edit]
As of 2012, Facebook announced it would be the biggest employer in Menlo Park at 6,600 employees.[37] According to the city's 2016 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report,[38] the top employers in the city were:
