Tilba: In each other's pockets - Domain

Central Tilba is a living, breathing time capsule. The village was established in the late 1800s and on the surface not much has changed.

It harks back to a time when you knew all your neighbours, had more time for friends and family and were surrounded by natural beauty; a time and place typically confined to classic novels and history books.

But for the tiny community on the NSW South Coast, it’s a daily reality.

Central Tilba is home to about 80 people, with neighbouring Tilba Tilba and surrounding rural properties contributing to a wider population of about 400.

Nestled at the base of Gulaga (also known as Mount Dromedary), the village is embraced by rolling farmland and national parks and is within moments from pristine beaches.

Its about 360km from Sydney. ❓❓ WHY: The unusually complete streetscape of Victorian timber buildings are classified by the National Trust for their historic significance. There is also a cheese factory! ???? WHEN: October, a Friday morning. ???? HOW: You'll need to drive. ???? FOOD: We had morning tea at Tilba Teapot Cafe ????☕ but there are others. The amazing Dromedary Hotel is open for lunch and dinner and a little tipple. SHOPPING: There are plenty of little shops selling local produce, handcrafts and the like. Definitely call into the ???? Abc Cheese Factory where there's a mouthwater array of things to choose from. ???? TOILETS: Yes, in the main street, well kept and clean.
