Peddy Mergui - Visual Identity Competition Invitation
The Centre for the Meeting of Cultures in Lublin (Poland) unveils the International Visual Identity Competition
The Centre for the Meeting of Cultures in Lublin, in partnership with the Polish Association of Graphic Designers announces an open, one-step competition for the creation of the Visual Identity of the institution. Agencies and graphic designers alike are invited to create and submit a logo (a sign and a logotype) for the Centre. The 1st Prize is 15 000 PLN and is followed by a 40 000 PLN contract to create the System of Visual Identity for the Centre. All the prizes will be awarded by an international Jury.
- We are building a new multi-functional space based on the history of an unfinished theatre, known for decades as ‘The Theatre Under Construction’. The long and winding transformation of Eastern and Central Europe may serve as a reference to the idea and praxis of ceaseless development and to openness towards people and their creativity. Our unique building will constitute the base of the institution whose architecture exposes the raw bones behind the process of creation. In addition, the authenticity of the region – with its rich folk and alternative cultures – as well as our professional and open-minded team will provide ample opportunities for the further growth of the Centre, says Piotr Franaszek, Managing Director of the Centre.
- The programme of the Centre will be composed of premium quality artistic events, fully integrated with the activities of the institution itself, its affiliated NGOs, and representatives of creative industries making use of cutting-edge technologies on-site. We will embark on a journey of inspiration, actively looking for the patterns of culture and being sensitive to the needs of fellow humans and nature that surrounds us. To us, culture is a life style – a spiritual space in which we define our existence and relations with the outside world and for that reason we would like to practice democratization of culture and set trends. The Meeting of Cultures is not an institution, but an idea practiced in everyday life, adds Piotr Franaszek.
The first three finalists will be awarded the following prizes: 1st Prize – 15000 PLN (3 500 EUR), 2nd Prize – 8500 PLN (2 000 EUR), 3rd Prize – 5000 PLN (1 200 EUR). In addition, the winner of the 1st Prize will be offered a contract worth 40 000 PLN (9 500 EUR) for the creation of the Visual Identity System for the Centre for the Meeting of Cultures in Lublin. The details (scope) of the Visual Identity System are included in the Competition’s Rules and Regulations.
All the competition entries submitted will be evaluated by the Jury, presided by Peddy Mergui, an acclaimed designer specialising in visual communication and branding. His solo exhibition is shown at EXPO Milano 2015 (May-October).
As Secretary of the Jury Bartosz Wójcik states, it was our priority to invite Judges who are professionals representing current world trends in contemporary design. They are not only design theoreticians and practitioners, but established artists who have been actively present on the commercial market for years.
Apart from Peddy Mergui, the Jury includes: Dr habil. Dawid Korzekwa – designer and President of the Polish Association of Graphic Designers, Jarosław Koziara – visual artist and graphic designer, Dr Justyna Kucharczyk – designer, specialist in Visual Identity, assistant professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice, Dr Sławomir Plewko – designer, owner of KONTRASTUDIO, Agata ENDO Nowicka –acclaimed illustrator and drawer, cooperating with among others “The New York Times”, “Die Welt”, “Harper’s Bazaar”, and Piotr Franaszek – Managing Director of the Centre for the Meeting of Cultures in Lublin, territorial marketing expert and consultant, creator of the “Lubelskie. Taste life!” brand.
Submission deadline: 30 June 2015. All submissions should be sent at: konkurs@spotkaniakultur.com. More information is available at: (scroll down for English version).

Dear English native speaking friends of Cities For People! Help us to decipher all words in the recording of Professor's lecture. As to accuracy of transcription, for the sake of fluent understanding audio/text by non-native speakers, in some cases we chose to retain mistakes, sometimes we corrected them. But there are still some gaps, words we could not identify at all. So we will be grateful if you could recognize them. The list is below. Thank you in advance also for any other critical remarks (on text or video material) that would help us to improve this transcription and also the Polish version of the lecture which is being prepared.
