Classics On Kent ~ Lindsay, Ontario
Antique and collector cars, muscle cars, custom cars and trucks from across Ontario rolled into downtown Lindsay on Sunday, July 15th for the Annual Classics on Kent Downtown Car Show.
Thousands of people filled Kent Street all day, where over 600 cars lined every street in downtown Lindsay. A record number of people attended this year, and additional vehicles were parked in every available spot the downtown could offer. The 2nd Annual Motorcycle Show filled Victoria Avenue South and Brits in the Park also had cars on display in Victoria Park, making this an estimation of 1000 vehicles filling the downtown corridors.
Over 70 prizes were given away to car registrants and the event was completed with a trophy, awards and prize presentation at 3pm. The winners of the trophy presentations were: A & W Sponsors Choice: Dan Jones from Bobcaygeon, owner of a 1965 Chevy Impala, The Lindsay District Chamber of Commerce Sponsors Choice: Carl & Judy Madill from Brooklyn, ON owner of a 1957 Chevy Pickup, The Lindsay Post Sponsors Choice: Richardo Darmanie from Bowmanville, owner of a 1951 Pontiac Chieftan. The Lindsay Downtown BIA Sponsors Choice winner was a 1966 Corvette, owner by Jeff Dickinson from Peterborough. The Everyday Specialities Memorial Award was presented in memory of Rick Broomer, in the spirit of avid car collectors who are no longer with us. The winner was presented with their trophy by Cody Toms, Rick Broomer's grandson. Matt Punter from Lakefield, owner of a 1966 Dodge Dart claimed this trophy. A Driver's Choice award was sponsored by Reeds Vintage Auto Insurance, and this year's driver's choice was Dave Short from Wasaga Beach, owner of a 1970 Road Runner. Included in the presentations was a grand prize of an autographed Jason Spezza jersey and print valued at $300 from OLG Slots at Kawartha Downs, and an evening out in Lindsay, sponsored by the Academy Theatre and Olympia Restaurant.
With hundreds of car owners from across the province in attendance, Classics on Kent was not only a tremendous success, it is recognized as one of the largest car shows in Ontario. This event grows larger each year and the committee is already looking forward to planning the 2013 event. Thank you to the community, the volunteers and the sponsors for supporting Classics on Kent. See you next year on Sunday, July 21st!
UNTITLED FEMINIST SHOW
Brooklyn's Young Jean Lee works collaboratively, writes as she directs and follows her discomfort like a compass. In her irreverent theatre, bracing irony encounters the long tradition of heart-on-sleeve American truth-telling. The results are both hilarious and provocative.
Toronto knows Young Jean Lee's Theater Company from the World Stage 2012 presentation of THE SHIPMENT. While it returns to the theme of identity politics, UNTITLED FEMINIST SHOW treads entirely new aesthetic ground. It's a play almost entirely without words. It's also a play without clothes. And its six performers succeed at something nearly impossible: without gender signifiers they define themselves for themselves. UNTITLED FEMINIST SHOW is a celebration of possibility -- joyful, challenging and inspiring. It's Lee's most daring theatrical experiment yet.

La Bohème: Live
We're bringing opera to the people this Thanksgiving! On October 13, tune in to CBC Gem for a livestream of Puccini's classic La Bohème, live from Toronto's historic Tranzac Club. The acclaimed 19th-century opera has been reimagined with a contemporary twist by Against the Grain Theatre, which sees the Italian libretto translated into English and transports you from Paris's Latin-quarter to your local Canadian bar.
»Subscribe to CBC Arts to watch more videos:
On September 27, La Bohème hit the road on a cross-Canada tour kicking things off in Banff, Alberta. They'll be performing in bars across Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Yukon and Ontario, then landing in Toronto for a two-week residency.
Presented by Against the Grain Theatre, Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity and CBC Arts, we'll be livestreaming La Bohème straight to your living room (or cell phone). Think the Metropolitan Opera's Live in HD but scrappier. The La Bohème broadcast will be hosted by CBC's Lindsay Michael, co-host and producer of Podcast Playlist and a trained opera singer herself.
La Bohème follows a group of young artists through life, love and loss. Rodolfo (Marcel d'Entremont), is an aspiring screenplay writer who falls in love with Mimì (Jonelle Sills), a florist and sewing enthusiast. Meanwhile their friend Marcello (Clarence Frazer), an OCAD U-trained illustrator, is in an on-and-off again relationship with his flirty, unfaithful sweetheart, Musetta (Danika Lorèn). La Bohème is directed by AtG founder and artistic director Joel Ivany with music director David Eliakis at the piano.

The Chemical Valley Project - Trailer
THE CHEMICAL VALLEY PROJECT
In Ontario, an Indigenous community of 800 residents, is smothered by Canada's petrochemical industry. Two siblings from Aamjiwnaang First Nation, Vanessa and Lindsay Beze Gray, have dedicated themselves to fighting environmental racism and to protecting their community’s land, air and water.
A unique blend of documentary-theatre, playful production design by Julia Howman, and a charismatic solo-performance by Kevin Matthew Wong engage and implicate audiences in The Chemical Valley Project. This urgent production opens difficult conversations on Indigenous treaty rights, the nature of contemporary Canadian identity and values, and the notorious chemical valley.“

Reviews and Buzz for The Chemical Valley Project:
“I highly recommend seeing this show for the important reality it exposes. To its diligent creators: thank you.”
– Mooney on Theatre
“Wong is sensitive to the idea of cultural appropriation, and so he lets the siblings talk for themselves in audio interviews; in a video clip, he even shows them the work in progress and asks for suggestions, which he then implements”
– NNNN / Now Magazine Critics’ Pick
“I left The Chemical Valley Project with a sense of the value in stories, and with a model for what it takes to really listen and come to understand others’ lived experience. I really do admire Kevin’s stage-craft, but more than that I respect his approach to the material. His performance is compelling because it is earnest, accessible, and very well told.”

The Butchering Art Book Trailer
It’s my great pleasure to unveil the trailer for THE BUTCHERING ART. A great deal of love, thought, and care has gone into its production. As someone who relishes the visual elements of the past, I wanted to see how the sights and sounds of grimy, grisly Victorian surgery would translate onto screen.
If you enjoy my channel, please consider pre-ordering THE BUTCHERING ART. Pre-orders count towards first week sales and give me a greater chance at hitting a bestseller list when the book is released next week. Links below!

Check out what critics are saying about Ripcord!
A behind the scenes look at #Ripcord, now playing Off-Broadway through Dec. 6, 2015. Tickets and more info at
World Premiere Comedy by David Lindsay-Abaire
Directed by David Hyde Pierce
With Marylouise Burke, Rachel Dratch, Glenn Fitzgerald,
Daoud Heidami, Nate Miller, Holland Taylor
IT’S THE FIGHT OF THE CENTURY.
AND THEY WOULD KNOW.
David Lindsay-Abaire, the Pulitzer Prize winning author of Rabbit Hole, Fuddy Meers, and Good People, returns to MTC with Ripcord, a high-stakes comedy about two women of a certain age locked in a no-holds-barred battle to the death directed by Tony and Emmy Award winner David Hyde Pierce.
A sunny room on an upper floor is prime real estate in the Bristol Place Assisted Living Facility, so when the cantankerous Abby (Emmy Award winner and Tony Award nominee Holland Taylor) is forced to share her quarters with new-arrival Marilyn (frequent Lindsay-Abaire collaborator and Drama Desk Award winner Marylouise Burke), she has no choice but to get rid of the infuriatingly chipper woman by any means necessary. A seemingly harmless bet between the old women quickly escalates into a dangerous game of one-upmanship that reveals not just the tenacity of these worthy opponents, but also deeper truths that each would rather remain hidden. As heartfelt as it is deliciously inappropriate, this hilarious world premiere marks the author’s sixth collaboration with MTC.
Ripcord was commissioned by MTC through the Bank of America New American Play Program. Ripcord is a recipient of an Edgerton Foundation New American Plays Award. Special thanks to The Harold and Mimi Steinberg Charitable Trust for supporting Manhattan Theatre Club.
