Painting Boleslawiec Polish Pottery - Unikat Patterns
To start your own Polish pottery business go to
Boleslawiec Polish pottery is hand crafted from a special clay that is found only in the Boleslawiec region of Poland. And it is decorated by artists who carry on the traditions of the old masters who originated the pottery and patterns in the 1800's.
Painting is done with brushes and stamps. Because each piece is done by hand, every piece is unique. Some patterns are called UNIKAT. They are patterns that are painted only on special order.
This video shows painting rooms in two factories in Boleslawiec. Note the similarities.
The artists are very concerned with quality. Any error puts the piece into the trash bin.

Bunzlauer: Pottery For The People
Curator, Victoria Cooke, talks about the Museum's collection of Bunzlauer Pottery on display April 17 - August 9.
With Sponge, Brush and Stencil: Bunzlauer Pottery from the Collection of the Columbia Museum of Art is a colorful exhibition of 43 pieces of pottery created between the world wars in an area around the town of Bunzlau in Eastern Germany (renamed Boleslawiec following the Polish annexation of the area in 1945). This popular style of pottery was hand-decorated with sponges, brushes, and stencils - intended for the average home, but celebrated for its colorful and inventive patterns. Artists drew inspiration from the art nouveau and art deco styles and decorated everyday wares like teapots, creamers, vases, and plates.

The North Carolina Pottery Center, which opened its doors in 1998, is the first state pottery center in the nation. Its permanent collection includes examples of prehistoric Native American pottery through the utilitarian earthenware and stoneware made by Moravian and Scots-Irish immigrants in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. The Center also highlights the innovations of the early twentieth century, the craft revival of the 1970s and the contemporary art pottery that has made North Carolina known around the world.

Pokutska Keramika - How it's Made [ukrshop.eu]
A typical product of “Pokutska Keramika” is an example of all-Ukrainian style, which is characterized by restraint – no unnecessary elements. Minimalism in everything – form, decor, color. No artificiality – just expediency, rectified by centuries of rural labor. The ware is everyday-like and does not have regional attributes, as crockery for celebrations usually do. For centuries, such cookware was present in each Ukrainian hut.

Bunzlau Castle Wedding Supper
Last year, Geert married Madelief. On their happy day, eighty friends and family members took their seats at long tables in a meadow surrounded by large, shady trees. Tea-light candles, white bunting and Bunzlau Castle tableware perfected the look.
