Cerro Brujo & Kicker rock in the Galapagos, San Cristobal Island
In this video we take a day trip to Cerro Brujo and Kicker Rock, they are only accessible by boat and take a full day to visit both by tour.
Cerro Brujo is the most beautiful and famous beach in the Galapagos islands. It's sand is extremely powdery soft and is made from dead coral. The water there is crystal clear and bright blue. There are some tidal pools and it's a great beach for swimming, snorkelling or capturing that perfect photo. There are some seals, marine iguanas and other wild life. It is a nesting ground for sea turtles and marine iguanas as well.
Kicker Rock is located 20 minutes away from Cerro Brujo by boat. Kicker Rock is the most interesting place to go snorkelling in the Galapagos. The rock is surrounded by water and has caves going through it from one side to the other. Kicker Rock stretches high out of the water and goes extremely deep, you can't swim to the bottom unless your in between the two cracks of the rock. The rock is shaped like a shoe, this is why they named it Kicker Rock. You can expect to see a wide variety of fish, galapagos sharks, white tip reef sharks, black tip reef sharks and if you are lucky it is possible to see dolphins, whales and sunfish or mola. The snorkel tour costs around $110 USD and Diving can range from $150-$190 depending on the diving company you go with.
Darwin Bay is accessible by walking or hiking from the center of town in San Cristobal. The walk only takes about 45 minutes to an hour, there are beaches along the way for swimming and you can get some great views from the top of the mountain. When you get to Darwin Bay, you climb down a bunch of steps and then you access the water from the rocks. The water there is a little cold, but it's extremely sheltered and calm and there is almost no current. You can expect to swim with turtles, marine iguanas, seals, fish and if you look closely, you will find sting rays, eagle rays and on occasion dolphins if you are lucky.
You may want to also consider taking a hike to Lo Loberia. You can take a taxi to the entrance for about $4 and from there it's an hour walk each way. There are amazing view points and you can stop and swim at the beach or snorkel there if you want. There are plenty of sea lions and birds and of course marine iguanas and other species of lizards.
This is the last island we visited in the Galapagos, we now will make our way back to San Cristobal and from there take a plane to Guayaquil. Next on our bucket list is Peru!

3 Join me in the Galapagos on Ecoventura at Cerro Brujo and Punta Pitt, San Cristobal Island Dec 9 2019
For our first full day, we discovered like Darwin on San Cristobal Island at Cerro Brujo and Punta Pitt.
After breakfast we tried on our snorkel gear and wetsuits. We took a panga or zodiac ride to Cerro Brujo or Wizard Hill and wandered among many sea lions nursing their pups. We also saw Sally lightfoot crabs which are black as juveniles and bright orange as adults. There were marine iguanas on the black rocks. The blue footed boobies were dive-bombing into the water for fish. We tried out our wetsuits from the ship and snorkeled from the beach. We saw sea lions swimming, sting rays and many colorful fish. I loved our boat ride through the arch and to see the Cathedral, which is also called Darwin’s Pants.
After lunch onboard, I went to visit Captain Jhon on the bridge. Theory has an open bridge policy and you are welcome to stop by to say hello and learn more about the yacht.
Our afternoon hike was at Punta Pitt, one of the only places where you can see red footed and blue footed boobies. We watched juvenile blue footed boobies on the ground and red footed boobies up in a tree. We also saw sea lions frolicking on the beach!
We watched sunset and it was like a painting of red, yellow and gold on the sky! Our multi-course dinner was filled with fantastic food and conversation about our incredible day!

Highlights from day 6, part of our last full day in the archipelago was spent exploring my favorite beach of the trip. The white sand does not heat up in the sun, because it is organic - which I found out is code for comes from parrot fish poop!!
