ALGARVE: Roman ruins of Cerro da Vila, Vilamoura (Portugal)
The ruins of Cerro da Vila are located next to the Marina of Vilamoura, and not far from Quarteira. The ruins are the remnants of a historical villa in the Algarve region.
The Roman ruins are constituted by two residences, baths, necropolis, dams and fish salting stations. Of the two residences and baths, the only remnants are compartmentalized walls, including the impluvium, atrium and tablinum. There exists friezes of marble and fragments painted stucco that decorated the walls, as well as the remains of poly-chromatic mosaic pavements. Two rectangular tanks serve the fish salting buildings. The necropole, which includes the remains of mausoleums and burial tombs, came much later (and only recently have been unearthed and investigated.

Cerro da Vila - Quarteira
Pertencente ao território de Ossonoba, a primitiva ocupação da villa remonta à primeira metade do século I d.C. A sua localização favoreceu o aproveitamento dos recursos marítimos e o tráfico de mercadorias, atestado pela existência de um porto.
No século II e, particularmente, a partir do século III, a área residencial adquiriu uma expressiva dimensão. A água era um elemento sempre presente, jorrando das bicas e das estátuas para o lago do jardim, espaço central em torno do qual toda a casa se desenvolvia: uma grande sala de recepção e de refeições de Verão, os quartos , a cozinha, as áreas de serviços, que incluíam um cryptoporticum.

A Estação Arqueológica Cerro da Vila é constituída por uma villa romana do séc. I e por um museu que alberga um espólio que atesta a ocupação romana da região. As ruínas foram descobertas em 1963 pelo arqueólogo algarvio José Farrajota. O Museu Cerro da Vila foi inaugurado em 1998.
A Estátua Cupertino Miranda foi realizada com mármore branco e mede 3 metros de altura.
A Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Alegria data de 1972 e o seu projeto é da autoria do arquiteto Francisco Keil do Amaral.
O Jardim da Rua da Botelha ostenta diversa vegetação ao longo das margens de caminhos com calçada portuguesa. Possui também um miradouro, um lago e um curso de água atravessado por uma ponte.
A Marina de Vilamoura foi inaugurada em 1974, sendo pioneira em Portugal. Tem capacidade para receber 825 embarcações até 60 metros de comprimento. Esta marina tem sido constantemente premiada. Em 2019, foi considerada a Melhor Marina Internacional pela TYHA. Foi também distinguida, pelo 8º ano consecutivo, como a Melhor Marina de Portugal pela Publituris Portugal Trade Awards.

Vamos a detenernos unos momentos para contemplar imágenes del mayor complejo turístico privado de Europa y uno de los más exclusivos de Portugal, Vilamoura.
El complejo turístico de Vilamoura está situado en el término municipal (concelho) de Loulé, en la provincia (distrito) de Faro, al sur de Portugal, en la región denominada Algarve (palabra árabe para designar lo más occidental), zona bañada por el océano Atlántico.
En tiempos pasados, concretamente en época romana, en este lugar se producía altas cantidades de “garum”, una salsa de pescado de sabroso sabor, elaborado con vísceras fermentadas, principalmente de pescado azul (boquerón, sardina, caballa, jurel, atún rojo, etc.) y otros condimentos. Dos mil años después el paisaje es bien distinto, el garum ha sido sustituido por delicatesen gourmet de otra índole.
El impresionante complejo de Vilamoura fue fundado por el banquero portugués Cupertino de Miranda quien, con la sociedad gestora del complejo, Lusotur (ahora Lusort), comenzó la planificación y la construcción inicial en 1966. En 1996, Vilamoura (Lusotur) fue adquirida por el dueño de Quinta do Lago, André Jordan. En 2004, el complejo fue comprado por el grupo español Prasa, y en 2010 por Catalunya Caixa.
Moderna, animada y sofisticada, Vilamoura ha crecido alrededor del puerto deportivo, siendo en sí un gran complejo turístico. Hace tiempo que perdió su encanto tradicional sustituido por la perfección absoluta que esperan los multimillonarios que atracan sus carísimos yates en el puerto deportivo.
Una de las mejores poblaciones costeras de Portugal, Vilamoura es una ciudad en expansión que cuenta con gran cantidad de parques, cinco campos de golf, un club de bowls sobre hierba, un club de tenis, un club de tiro, hoteles de cuatro y cinco estrellas, apartamentos turísticos, villas, clubes nocturnos, una escuela de equitación, restaurantes, bares…, y para darle el toque estilista, construyeron dos lugares enfocados a un turismo de alto nivel: por una parte, la Marina (puerto deportivo), y, por otra, el Casino, que es un poco el centro de la vida nocturna de la zona.
El auténtico epicentro de Vilamoura y el principal punto de animación es el exclusivo puerto deportivo. En él, inaugurado en 1974, se encuentran los hoteles más elegantes, restaurantes gourmet y bares de moda. La zona comercial que lo rodea es un lugar cosmopolita con servicios de ocio a solicitud de navegantes y visitantes y cuenta con una amplia oferta de excelentes restaurantes, terrazas, discotecas y cafés, sin perder de vista la producción textil de las tiendas de marcas más exclusivas, ni la artesanía local. También dispone de 825 amarres para una eslora máxima de 60 m y un calado mínimo de 4 m, y un gran número de servicios.
A pocos metros de la Marina se encuentra el Casino de Vilamoura, con una decoración avant-garde de colores vibrantes, salas de juego, restaurantes y sala de espectáculos. Durante el verano se realizan cada noche eventos de teatro, musicales, shows de comedia y otros espectáculos.
En las imágenes podemos apreciar la preciosa panorámica de Vilamoura, dominada por su puerto deportivo, con su fantástica bocana de entrada custodiada por dos faros, uno a occidente y otro a poniente. Un lado de esta bocana corresponde a la desembocadura de la ribera Algibre, un pequeño río que recorre el Algarve. Junto al pontón este del puerto deportivo se encuentra la playa de Vilamoura, de arenas finas y doradas, cuyo arenal se prolonga hasta Quarteira por levante. Dirección poniente se une con la playa de Falésia, que tras recorrer varios kilómetros nos llevaría hasta Albufeira.
