What a day this was! Lately, we've been wanting to do more tours in the Cancun area, so we got together with My Trish Advisor to set up a bucket list tour - Swimming with Whale Sharks!! To book your tour with Trish, head on over to
The tour starts in Cancun where you board a boat that takes you for a short boat ride over to Isla Mujeres. The relatively-calm ride is breathtaking with water consisting of shades of blue, green, and turquoise. AMAZING!!
If you're wondering what to do in Cancun, Mexico, this is definitely a tour that's worth considering. But before you book it, you should be aware that it does come with some drawbacks... Depending on where they're feeding at the time, it can be a very long boat ride out to see the whale sharks. For us, it was an hour and 20 minutes each way. Additionally, don't expect to be the only boat out there - this is a very popular tour and many people are trying to have the same experience. Unfortunately, that also means that you won't have a lot of time to swim with the whale sharks since everybody has to take turns.
With that said and expectations tempered, this is one once-in-a-lifetime experience! Being in the water with the worlds biggest sharks is incredible!
If you're visiting Mexico, you also MUST check out the beautiful Isla Mujeres! It's crystal clear water and soft sand beaches (free of seaweed, I might add) are a dream! This tour killed two birds with one stone...and it almost killed Maddie too. Not actually, but she did get very seasick. A good reminder to take Dramamine!
After the whale shark experience, we stopped by Isla Mujeres for a little while - our first time at the beautiful island. Our guides whipped up some tasty ceviche and we enjoyed the motion-free water and soft sand - Maddie was especially relieved!
We're going to have to come back to Isla Mujeres very soon. Since it's so close to Cancun and our home in Puerto Morelos, it's a really easy day trip for us.

Whale Shark, Isla Mujeres, Mexico. July 15, 2016
Incredible trip with Ceviche Tours.
Pensacola, FL to Isla Mujeres Nov. 2016
Pensacola, FL to Isla Mujeres, Mexico was Libra's inaugural offshore run of the 2016/2017 season and what a voyage! Many of the nine-member crew met Libra (and each other!) for the first time when they boarded on Nov. 19th, but most will say they left the boat with eight new friends they will keep for a very long time, including Annie Dike with havewindwilltravel.com. It was a beautiful sail filled with fresh fish (on the line and the grill, we even made ceviche!), a great playlist (thank you Greg!) and plenty of beautiful sunsets, sunrises and time to trim and set the sails to the colorful shores to Mexico! Apparently the crew likes sailing ... and salsa dancing too! Join us on our next sail at saillibra.com/join-a-sail/
