Cahal Pech - Cayo District of Belize
Cahal Pech is a Maya site located near the Town of San Ignacio in the Cayo District of Belize. The site was a palatial, hilltop home for an elite Maya family, and though most major construction dates to the Classic period, evidence of continuous habitation has been dated to as far back as far as 1200 BCE during the Early Middle Formative period (Early Middle Preclassic), making Cahal Pech one of the oldest recognizably Maya sites in Western Belize. Mayan pyramid in Belize destroyed 'for gravel'
Officials in Belize say a construction company has destroyed one of the country's largest Mayan pyramids.
Head of the Belizean Institute of Archaeology Jaime Awe said the Noh Mul temple was levelled by a road-building company seeking gravel for road filler.
The Mayan temple dates back to pre-Columbian times and is estimated to be 2,300 year old. Only a small core of the pyramid was left standing.
Police said they were investigating the incident.

Beautiful Belizean Butterfly - Don't Stop Belize'n
Michael Lanfield discusses the sanctity of life and the importance of caring for all beings. This divine being was found resting in peace in the orchard, and while its life had expired it still maintains its gorgeous and unique array of colors and patterns.
We farm organically and veganically on 13 acres in central Belize, and are currently converting a primarily monocultured citrus orchard into a biodiverse permaculture food forest.

It's a Belizean Thing... First Day at the Schools!
The Virtual Mission Trip continues! This is the first day breaking away from the entire team and teaching at the individual schools. The school we were stationed at was St. Ignatius in Cayo. We had to wake up earlier (about 4am) to get ready, pray, walk across Benque to the bus station, & get on our bus which took us to Cayo. Then we walked across a bridge and up a hill to St. Ignatius School where we spent the rest of the day!
