Welcome to Glass House Estate Winery
The name Glass House pays homage to the de Jong families 60 year history in the greenhouse industry, starting in the Netherlands and continuing in North America.
In 1983, Arthur and Ingrid de Jong and their three girls immigrated from the Netherlands to start a new adventure in Langley. Within a month of landing, they purchased five acres to build their first home and greenhouse development. For the next 20 years, they worked as a team to develop many greenhouse projects both in Canada and internationally. After a hard days work, they would unwind with a delicious meal and glass of wine shared with friends and family. In 2004, they sold their last project and purchased an overgrown Christmas tree farm which would one day become Glass House Estate Winery.
Retirement was the time to pursue new goals and dreams. For Arthur this meant playing outside on his machinery from dawn to dusk. After a trip to the Okanagan in 2012, Arthur got on his excavator to clear 8 acres of overgrown Christmas trees to make way for a vineyard. Ingrid then enrolled in WSET and quickly progressed to her Level 4 Diploma in Wines and Spirits to strengthen themselves as a team.
Their youngest daughter, Margit, came on board in the early stages to help with the grafting of the vines, to learn about the vineyard and to help set up the business. In 2015, at third leaf, they enlisted a European winemaker to develop a winemaking protocol for the family which focuses on a minimalistic approach, using only free run juices and showcasing each varietals best characteristics.
Today, The Joseph Richard Group has acquired management and operations of the winery and tasting room. The de Jong's have created an amazing venue and fantastic product and The Joseph Richard Group is proud to build on what they have started.
