Mevrouw Grootveld leidde me rond in het museum.

Rotterdam Travel Guide - Netherlands Joyful Times
Rotterdam Travel Guide - Netherlands Joyful Times
Rotterdam is a municipality and city in the Dutch province of South-Holland, situated in the west of The Netherlands and part of the Randstad. The municipality is the second largest in the country (behind Amsterdam), with a population of approximately 601,300 people and over 2.9 million inhabitants in its metropolitan area (combined with The Hague).
The port of Rotterdam is the largest in Europe. From 1962 to 2004, it was the world's busiest port; then it was superseded by Shanghai. Now Rotterdam is the fourth biggest port in the world. Rotterdam is known as a city of architecture. A few square kilometres of the city centre offers a complete overview of what the twentieth century has produced in terms of modern architecture. Due to this more modern atmosphere and the presence of several relatively high buildings (for Dutch standards), the city is especially interesting for Dutch people to visit.
The atmosphere of Rotterdam is absolutely distinct from other Dutch cities. The mentality can best be described as 'can do'. From the waiters you meet to the businessmen and the people who have just arrived as migrants, all of them breathe a dynamic optimism of getting forward with things and their town. The modern looks of the city, the bustle and its building spree all add to this impression. That said, you might also find that people are sometimes somewhat too straight with you. And yes, the city is not the cosiest, or the most picturesque of towns, especially on drab winter days. But; get acquainted with this small metropolis, easiest done on days of one of the festivals with nice weather, and you will come to love it.
Like any city in The Netherlands, Rotterdam is very, very bicycle-friendly. Getting around by bike is probably the fastest way of travel within the city. There are separate bike lanes on most major streets and there are separate traffic lights for bicyclists. Avoid getting your tire in the tram rails. Always cross tram rails at an angle. Always lock your bike securely when leaving it, preferably chained to a fixed object.
There are five metro lines operated by RET. Lines A (green), B (yellow) and C (red), share tracks between Schiedam Centrum and Capelsebrug and offer an east-west connection. Lines D (light blue) and E (blue, also known as RandstadRail) share tracks between Rotterdam Centraal and Slinge and offer a north-south connection. Interchange between all lines is possible on Beurs station in the city center.
The area around metrostation Blaak, called Oude haven (Old Harbour), is not only worth seeing but has also a lot of pubs and restaurants. The Rotterdam dining scene is developing very fast with new restaurants opening very often. While most of the attention focusses on new Michelin-star aspiring places, there is very much a trend towards high quality mid-range restaurants offering French/Dutch cuisine.
Innovation here takes many forms, and one that is immediately apparent is the quality of the coffee served in the city's huge array of cafes. Until recently, there was only one coffee roastery in Rotterdam – the excellent Man Met Brill – but at last count there were 12, all roasting direct-trade beans to caffeinate coffee-obsessed locals. Cafes of every type (hipster hole-in-the-walls to traditional grand cafes) dot the city streets, functioning as work and study spaces for the digital generation as well as places where friends and family catch up over a drink or casual meal.

ENTOMOLOGY at Rotterdam Museum (Natuurhistorisch Museum Rotterdam)
Please help! Youtube has NEVER ALLOWED ME to MONETIZE my content! Because of this, my channel is completely dependent on crowdfunding. I am an independent entomologist that mainly talks about moths but sometimes also shows other invertebrates and a bit of biology. Below are some links of my work, my social media and to some ways that viewers can support my mission to protect, document and create awareness for insects. Help me help insects! Some ways to support me are:
-
My Patreon:
- Patreon is a subscription based platform, that allows you to subscribe to me for rewards: such as exclusive videos, content, polls and behind the scenes information, in return for a monthly donation. How much it costs per month is entirely up to you, starting from atleast 1$ per month! I strongly recommend this platform for people that like rewards in return for their donation. My Patrons can ask me for eggs or cocoons, vote on what episodes I will make, receive exclusive videos, and more.
-
My Paypal: For a single PayPal donation, use the following link: paypal.me/BartCoppens - with this link, PayPal users can send me a single and one-time payment - for those that want to show support but do not want subscription based platforms.

Hey, did you enjoy my videos, and are you curious to see my other content? Luckily for you, Youtube is not the only thing I do online. Below, I’d like to present you some links to my content.
-
Instagram: I don’t use Instagram a lot, but it is a good way to spread my pictures and information online. Follow me for selfies and moth photos! I take Instagram with a grain of salt however. Link:
-
My website: Hey, did you know I have my own, personal website about breeding moths in captivity? That’s right. And it’s awesome! It has caresheets that show you how to breed some of the moth species I’ve shown on Youtube, information on how to get started, and more. Link:
-
Whatsapp community: My Youtube channel has its very own group chat! Please use it responsibly, I use my personal phone number here. Secondly, there are also quite some of my young fans in this chat. We welcome you here:
-
My email: bart.coppens@hotmail.com – this is my personal email, please do not abuse. Due to the high amount of messages, I may not always respond.
-

Thank you for watching, like and subscribe! Below I will list some more things, including alternative ways to support me and my channel.
-
Buy me a coffee! My Ko-Fi: Ko-fi.com/bartbutterflies – The platform Ko-Fi is more like an online tip jar, that allows viewers to donate a small amount for the price of one coffee(about 3.50$ per tip). It is small but thoughtful, and unlike Patreon, not subscription or commitment based.
-
My Bitcoin wallet address: 31nNVQFakCKa9QThYgfccMumCB2kKemeuJ and my Ethereum wallet address: 0x6938B84F35980964FCFDA80bd4Da58e683181241 – Also a user of cryptocurrencies? Why not, it’s a growing trend – for those that prefer to use more modern methods.
-
My Redbubble: Redbubble is in fact not a donation platform. This websites sells post cards, t-shirts, posters and more – with pictures of my moths on them! When you order one, I get a small commission on the product. Ever wanted a wallet, phone case or mug with your favorite moth or caterpillar? Now you can.
-
My Subscribestar: Subscribestar is exactly like Patreon. So why use it instead of Patreon? Because Patreon has censored people for their political opinions in the past, and a small amount of people boycott the platform for that now – here is the alternative for those people:
-
My GofundMe projects: is a website that allows users to crowdfund huge and expensive projects. This is probably something that will only work out later, once I have way more subscribers than I do now, since they are big and expensive projects. But I’m a dreamer.
-
Hire me: only for the Netherlands or Belgium -: I am a Youtuber, moth breeder and artist that also makes money by using my moths and butterflies in creative ways. Want a photoshoot with butterflies? Or a wedding? Or maybe you want something educational: a public reading at your local school or university? Lectures about biology or evolution? Via this link you can hire me and some of my services. Mijn artiestenwebsite waar men lezingen, fotoshoots en meer kan kopen. Link:
Thank you for helping my mission.

Beauty and the Right to the Ugly
November 9, 2015
Moderator: Neil Sanzgiri
Respondents: Vivek Bald and Sandra Rodriguez
Beauty and the Right to the Ugly was the title of an exhibition in 1981 by the Brazilian-Italian architect Lina Bo Bardi, which took a stand against bourgeois taste and values presented at her seminal building SESC Pompéia in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The exhibition was organized in collaboration with employees of a national organization for social work and medical assistance. “Beauty and the Right to the Ugly” became the title of a recent work by Wendelien van Oldenborgh in which she explores the life of an experimental multifunctional community center in the Netherlands from its opening in the 1970s to now, conceiving and implementing a filming methodology that translates architecture premises such as ‘open’, ‘user-led’ and ‘participative’ into cinematic devices. Taking her recent works “From Left to Night” (2015), “Beauty and the Right to the Ugly” (2014) and “Bete & Deise” (2012) as a lead, Van Oldenborgh will talk about filmmaking as a perfomative device and of her ongoing engagement in ideas on collectiveness, its intersection with the private and the role cultural production plays in this.
Wendelien van Oldenborgh develops works, whereby the cinematic format is used as a methodology for production and as the basic language for various forms of presentation. She often uses the format of a public film shoot, collaborating with participants in different scenarios, to co-produce a script and orientate the work towards its final outcome. With these works, which look at the structures that form and hinder us, she participated in various large biennials, and in smaller dedicated shows. Recent presentations include Form Left to Night (2015), solo at The Showroom London, Beauty and the Right to the Ugly (2014) in van Abbemuseum 2014; La Javanaise at the 12th Biennial of Cuenca (EC) (2014); Après la reprise, la prise in ‘Art Turning Left’, Tate Liverpool 2013. Van Oldenborgh has exhibited widely including in RAW Material Company Dakar (SN), Generali Foundation Vienna and Museum Muzeum Sztuki in Lodz (PL) as well as the 2nd Biennial of Kochi-Muziris 2014, 54rth Venice Biennial 2011, the 29e Bienal de Sao Paulo 2010 and at the 11th Istanbul Biennial 2009. In 2014 she was the recipient of the prestigious Heineken Prize for the Arts, presented by the Royal Dutch Academy of Sciences.
