Wanted to go hiking. As it was in the midst of the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally we decided we'd go to Chadron State Park and indeed, there were very few others there.
Moving In to Chadron State College
Chadron State College, which was founded in 1911, is the only four-year, regionally-accredited college in the western half of Nebraska. As a public institution with its roots in teacher education, Chadron State takes pride in its accessibility and affordability. Museum of the Fur Trade - Chadron Nebraska
The museum is three miles east of Chadron Nebraska near the site of the old James Bordeaux trading post which was owned by the American Fur Company and setup on this site in 1837. Chadron is a few hours drive southeast from Mount Rushmore and the Black Hills. The collection includes an extensive set of firearms and native American garments. There are over 8000 artifacts and it's worth the trip for history buffs if you're anywhere near Rapid City South Dakota. The museum is open to the public from May 1st to October 31st each year. Hours are 8am to 5pm. You can visit the museum from November 1st to April 30th by appointment only.
