Aftermath of Flooding in the Cowichan Valley
DUNCAN - A new week has begun for the people of the Cowichan Valley, but last week is still very much on their minds tonight.
Many forced out of their homes by floodwaters on Friday have had a chance to go back.
And for some the damage is not as bad as they feared. For others it's worse.
The material things, lost in the floodwaters. And the sense of compassion and community that's been found.

=================
My name is Zamian Parsons and I absolutely love Victoria BC. It seems like more and more people are discovering the great lifestyle afforded here as the population has exploded in the last 20 years, and I feel so fortunate to have this amazing job of helping people with typically their largest asset. My father became a Realtor in 2001, and after being his assistant for a number of years, I earned my license in 2006 and haven't looked back.
I have met so many amazing people over the years and even though I could go on and on and on about all the awards I've won, I'd rather focus on the rewarding aspects of meeting awesome humans and helping them achieve their goals. If you are looking for an honest, hardworking and all around decent person, I would love to hear from you!
Have an awesome day :)

Calgary man who fell into the Cowichan River is presumed dead
LAKE COWICHAN -- A search and rescue mission in the Cowichan Valley has been called off.
Lake Cowichan RCMP initiated a large scale search including divers and helicopters after a Calgary man fell into the fast moving river late Friday night. Mounties say two brothers were drinking and having a fire on a river front lot when one brother walked to the water and never came back. The brother who remained at the fire heard a loud splash, and when he could not find his sibling who was visiting from Calgary, he called the RCMP. Sunday afternoon search and rescue workers from across the Cowichan valley had still not located the man and officially ended the rescue mission.
At some point in time, depending on the circumstances, you go from a rescue scenario, to more of a recovery scenario said Lake Cowichan RCMP Sgt. Dave Voller. RCMP have not yet found a body, but say the chance of survival in the quickly moving ,and extremely cold waters of the Cowichan River is slim. RCMP usually deal with one drowning related death in the river every year.

2014 Land Awards Non-profit Winner: Cowichan Green Community, The Station
In 2013, Cowichan Green Community (CGC) worked to transform an old motor inn to create a zero waste, mixed-use building with commercial space and 20 affordable housing units in downtown Duncan. The project, which includes the development of a community kitchen and food forest, creates a sustainable revenue stream for CGC to continue its work in food sustainability, and contributes to creating a safe, inclusive neighbourhood. Real estate professionals, local governments, non-profits, First Nations, and other community members and businesses contributed extensive volunteer efforts and pro-bono advice to this collaborative project.
Olympic Homecoming at Cowichan High
DUNCAN -- Olympic Bronze Medalist Emily Zurrer and fellow London Olympian Michael Braithwaite returned to their old High School Friday to share their Olympic memories with the students of Cowichan High.
Zurrrer, who graduated from Cowichan High in 2004, captured a bronze medal with the women's soccer team. The Crofton native played a supporting role on the team after a hamstring injury suffered just before the start of the Games forced the 25-year-old to watch from the sideline.
Braithwait's Olympic journey saw the double sculls rower finish 6th in the men's final. But for him, London was all about the experience, with his eyes now set on medalling at the 2016 Olympics .
Students had a chance to see, touch and take home a piece of Olympic history today in a ceremony just outside the high school.

It’s Canada Day!
It’s also the first day of the official campaign for proportional representation in British Columbia.
This referendum is our chance to modernize BC’s democracy by updating our voting system.
This campaign is important to me, I want everyone to feel good about who they vote for.
I want everyone to feel comfortable voting for what they want, instead of voting against what they don’t want.
Proportional Representation is a huge step in that direction.
Pledge your support here:
Thank you and happy Canada Day.
