Chanderi Museum | History of Chanderi | RD Science and Poetry
Located at the corner where the Mungaoli and Isagarh roads diverge, the Chanderi Museum greets the visitor ahead of the town. The magnificent stone faced building houses the sculptures and ancient artefacts recovered from Chanderi and its vicinity, particularly Boodhi Chanderi and Thubon.
Inaugurated on the 14th of September, 2008 the museum currently has displays in five galleries. The first gallery, called History of Chanderi begins with a display of photographs of the rock paintings found at Nanuan and other cave shelters, includes the tools and implements of the early man and goes on to the sculptures of the later centuries. Another gallery, titled Jain Gallery houses the statues of the various Jain Tirthankaras and remains of other Jain temples found at Thubon and Boodhi Chanderi. In the Vishnu Gallery stone images of the different incarnations of Lord Vishnu like Varaha, Vamana, Narasimha etc. are on show. In the open air gallery around the central courtyard are displayed around 10 inscriptions in Sanskrit language but in different scripts.
Outside the building, within the campus are exhibited scores of ruined doorways belonging to the Hindu temples also discovered at Boodhi Chanderi and Thubon.
The museum also has a library which houses around 3000 books on the history
Ramnagar Palace and Museum near Chanderi
Ramnagar Palace and Museum near Chanderi maintained by the Department of Archaeology, Museums and Archives, Madhya Pradesh. Termed as palace, the structure is in fact a hunting lodge and retreat which was built by Maharaja Durjan Singh Bundela in AD 1698. Objects on display include fragments from Hindu temples, idols of deities as well as some well-preserved examples of Sati stones. The temple remains range from the 9th to the 12th century while the Sati stones belong mainly to the 16th to 18th century. These remains were collected from villages which were submerged under water after the construction of the Rani Lakshmibai Sagar. Surrounded by lush greenery on one side and the Mehjatiya Pool on the other, the palace serves as a popular picnic spot. The Governor Bahjat Khan had ordered the creation this artificial lake and it was initially named Bahjat Khan Pond but the name was later distorted to Mehjatiya. This lake is of historical importance as well. It was here that Babur had camped the night before he mounted the attack on the Chanderi fort, on January 28, 1528.

Chanderi is located strategically on the borders of Malwa and Bundelkhand. Chanderi is a town of historical importance in Ashoknagar District of Madhya Pradesh state in India. It is situated at a distance of 127 km from Shivpuri, 37 km from Lalitpur, 55 km from Ashok Nagar and about 45 km from Esagarh. Boodhi Chanderi - Ancient Site near Chanderi
Boodhi chanderi is situated about 20 kms from Chanderi town in north-west direction. The town was once a center of Jainism during medieval period and was on it's full glory during 10 to 13th century AD. This ancient town Boodhi chanderi is situated in dense forest spread over hilly terrain.Some ancient gates or doorways were erected in ancient time which is also visible in dilapidated condition.The place is situated on right of river Urr or Urvashi, was a large settlement of the Gurjara Pratiharas and possibly their capital. The place was first discovered in 1865 by the Indologist and first director of the Archaeological Survey of India, Alexander Cunningham. Later, the German traveller Claus Boone also visited the place. The colossal image of Parshwanatha is situated in first temple of Boodhi chanderi group of Jain temples.Currently these temples are under protection of ASI. In this group there are 5 temples in a premise where Jain relics and artefects are scattered everywhere, all surrounded by a fortification wall. A shantinatha shrine is present here where head of lord Shantinatha is absent and image is in mutilated condition. The temples are mostly of Jain affiliation. Three of these Jain temples have come under the protection of the Archaeological Survey of India. In 1967 about 2500 sculptures of Jain and Brahmnical sects were taken from this ancient site by Archaeology department.One complete gallery of Jain teerthankars is displayed in Chanderi govt. museum. It is said that there were about 55 Jain temples in Boodhi chanderi which are not present today but artefacts,lintels and sculptures are spread in forest of Boodhi Chanderi as well as preserved at Govt. museum of Chanderi. As the spot lies within dense forest and away from habitation, it is advisable for travellers to go in a group.

Getting patronized by royal families earlier, Chanderi sarees got her mainstream entry in the last quarter of 20th century.
The film speaks about Chanderi weavers describing their hopes, aspirations, attachment to their craft, their future generations, and the future of Chanderi, even as the film infuses emotion into the narrative.
It also focuses on the reach of Chanderi sarees in modern era. With the help of information technology and governments initiative, Chanderi have impressed globally. It also tells about the amalgamation of its diverse social fabric as well as the ascetics of its architectural heritage. Its hand-woven fine delicacy is giving an open canvas to the upcoming generations, where they can find a new expression and meaning with the exquisite called Chanderi.
The soul of the film is the Dhrupad Recital by Gundecha Brothers.

Chanderi Fort (Kirti Durg) - Madhya Pradesh
The Chanderi fort is situated in the district of Ashok Nagar in the state of Madhya Pradesh. It is located at a distance of 37 kilometers from Lalitpur. Chanderi lies tactically on the borders of Bundelkhand and Malwa. The Chanderi Fort (Kirti Durg) was first constructed on the highest point of the Chandragiri Hill by the 11th century Pratihara king Kirti Pal and is named after him.The Chanderi fort is located at a height of 71 meters from the town on a hill. The gate of Chanderi Fort is popularly known as the Khooni Darwaza. The Muslim Rulers of Chanderi constructed the fortification walls. Hawa Mahal and the Navkhanda Mahal are the offcuts of the Chanderi fort. The Bundela chiefs constructed both these buildings. The fort can also be reached by first climbing up to the Jageshwari Temple. Its 5 kilometre long perimeter encloses several monuments which are worth a visit.
