A high altitude trek done by me from YHAI. It is very lovely trek, and YHAI add more interest in this trek. Its base camp at 15 miles, kullu.
Trek starts from CHANSARI village (near kullu) and ends at RUMSU village or you can trek up to NAGGAR instead of RUMSU.
That was very interesting trek and route is very scenic.

Rumsu is a beautiful village which is 6 km from Naggar. As you travel further away from Naggar and get nearer to Rumsu you feel like you are leaving all modern things behind and accepting rustic charm of nature.
Rumsu is one of the historic villages in Himachal Pradesh, its history is traced till the extent of 700 years. The village has 150 houses and a population of 750 people approximately. The villagers are mostly engaged in farming and tourism jobs. Rumsu falls under one of the very famous trek routes to Malana Valley.
After reaching Rumsu base camp, camp leader will give you an introductory orientation about the campsite and detailed insight on the proceedings of the next four days in the wilderness of the Himalayas. Following the orientation, the trekkers will move for a short walk to the Pulag falls in Pulag village.
During acclimatisation walk around Rumsu and Pulag village you will get a chance to explore the culture and the lifestyle of High Altitude Himalayan Village.
You will find typical Himalayan village having old wooden homes and apple orchards. A small temple dedicated to God Jamlu is the centre of the Rumsu village. All activities go around in small ground adjacent to this Temple. The Village temples are made of rock and wood and the interiors of the temple are mostly empty but inner and outer walls have beautiful wooden carvings. It’s a fine piece of art.
The village lives in a cultural and economic harmony, it runs its own cleaning program on every 10th of the month, all the villagers unite together to clean the village, Rumsu is one of the cleanest villages with a good and a mature hygiene sense.
The trek to Sterling from Rumsu is a gentle climb and takes around two to three hours to reach. The last patch is steep climb to the ridge but short and not very difficult. Do follow the guidelines of trek leader and avoid breaking any rules as it can be lethal.
Sterling, is a meadow amidst dense Himalayan forest, with gentle snow slopes where participants can enjoy lot of snow activities and snow slides. Freezing temperature, Snow blizzard, hailstorm, rain, snowfall, thunder, you could witness all of these at this camp.
Sterling forest is a totally snow covered camp site during winters. This is your opportunity to play, slide, take pictures, make snowman, fall and have fun.
Participants can walk deeper in Jungle and enjoy more with nature. Ghankulhadi campsite is nearby flat snow covered landscape almost at 2700 meters.
Till Ghankulhadi the trek route involves a moderate climb on snow covered meadow and takes around 2 hours. Participants could have Bonfire in the evening.
The descend to Rumsu base camp, takes around 2-3 hours to reach. The drive to Manali from Rumsu takes around 90 mins.
Last day of the event you can reach Manali mall road by noon, and have enough time to purchase some souvenirs and board your transportation later in the evening.

Chanderkhani Pass is located in the Kullu District at a height of 3,660 metres. It forms a way(pass) between the villages of Rumsu and Pulag to the well known village of Malana, which indirectly forms a trekking route from Naggar to Malana across the Chanderkhani Pass.
The pass has a lot of religious importance as it was once the seat of meditation for the Saptarishi Jamadagni. A legend has it that there was once a local deity named Jamlu of Malana, and he had in his had a basket of the local gods, once he was on the top of the pass, he opened the basket and incidentally a strong wind came by and blew away all the idols to the nearby peaks, which is why all the nearby mountain peaks of Indrasan, Deo Tibba, Pir Pinjal & Parbati Range are considered holy and can be seen very clearly from the pass.

Kullu Manali dussehra atmosphere from 1990's - devtas on palkis
This is a celebration of Kullu Dussehra the famous International Mega Dussehra festival is celebrated in the month of October in Himachal Pradesh state in northern India. Legend has it that deity worship began in the Kullu Valley when a sage Saptarishis (Seven Great Sages Rishi) after returned from a pilgrimage to Maharishi Jamdagni went to his hermitage at Malana.
Saptarishi carried a basket filled with eighteen statues of different gods. Crossing through Chanderkhani pass, he arrived upon a violent storm. Trying to stay on his feet, Maharishi Jamdagni's basket was thrown from his head, separating the images to many far places. Hill people, finding these images saw them take shape or form as Gods and began to worship them.
The images of gods are being carried in palanquins, trumpets blowing, personnel asking the viewers to stay away from idols can be heard. A local Himachali man in a white cultural dress with saffron cloth wrapped on his head is seen jumping and hoping with joint hands. Meanwhile, the locals are watching the ceremony.
