The Chandiranaar Temple is a Hindu temple in the village of Thingalur, 33 kilometres from Kumbakonam. The presiding deity is Soma (moon). However, the main idol in the temple is that of Kailasanathar or Shiva
The temple has a 5-tier rajagopuram surrounded by two prakaram(closed precincts of a temple). The place is revered by the verses of Appar, but since there is no mention about the deity, it is not classified as Padal petra stalam
Legend has it that there lived a merchant Appoodi Adikal, a nayanar in the village of Thingalur who was a devotee of lord Shiva. Appoodi Adikal held Appar in high regards and wanted to host him. The day arrived, but his son was killed by a venomous snake bite while the saint was being hosted. Appar, moved by Appoodi Adikal's devotion is said to have miraculously restored the lad to life. During the Tamil month of Purattasi (Sep - Oct) and Panguni (March - April), moon light falls directly on the image of the presiding deity.

Welcome to the Thingalur Chandan temple.
The presiding deities of this temple are Lord Kailashanatha and his consort Periyanayagi Amman. This vortex is the second significant temple among the Navgrahas and is situated at Thingalur. It is dedicated to Lord Chandra, the moon, who anneliates your sufferings from a debilitated planet that represents a poor relationship with your mother, mental retardation, skin and nerve problems, jaundice, fluid accumulation and so on.
Chandran is also called as Thingal and his abode is Thingalur. It is here that Chandra pray to Lord Shiva and got his blessings. As Chandra is held in the lots of Lord Shiva, all devotees who worship Shiva should also worship the Moon God.
The legends quote that Devas and the Asuras churned the milky ocean to extract amrit, the sweet food of Gods, using mount Mantranchal and the snake Vasuki. Along with the nector, Lord Chandran emerged, as well.
There is another legend that says Aputhi Adigal was born at Thingalur. He was an ardent follower of Thirunavakarasar, a great Vedic seer. Once, Thirunavakarasar visited Thingalur and heard about Aputhi Adigal, his devotee and visited his house and consented to partake in the meal offered in his honor. To serve food for Thirunavakarasar, Aputhi Adigal sent his son to the garden to fetch a plantain leaf. when on this event, a snake bit the lad and he passed away. Not wishing to disappoint his guest, Aputhi Adigal covered the corpse of his son and tried to serve his mentor. But realizing the situation, Thirunavakarasar carried the corpse to the temple of Lord Shiva at Thingalur and revived the boy's life, signing and imploring the Lord with Thirupathigam, a divine hymn.
Following this miracle, it is said that the devotees of Thingalur are double energized with Chandran's power. And so, even when poisonous snakes harm the devotees there are not affected. So is the miracle of this temple.
Visiting this divine shrine dedicated to Lord Chandra will make miracles possible in your life too. This Thingalur power vortex is located at about 36 kms from Kumbakonam. Also offering white fabric, curd rice, pearl and other prasads and offerings in the color of white is said to appease the Moon God here. There are many shanthi Homas and poojas offered to Lord Chandra at this power spot to nullify the harmful effects in your Birth Chart. Newer life of abundance, prosperity, and good health with the blessings of the Moon God.

Thingalur ~ Kailasanathar / Chandran (Moon) Parihara sthala
A miracle happened here in Thingalur sthala by the saint of Saivism, Thirunavukkarasu Swamigal - Legend follows ....
Apputhi Adigal asked his elder son who was also named as Periya Thirunavukkarasu to fetch the plantain leaf in order to serve the food to Thirunavukkarasu swamigal. But, the fate had played its cruel role that his elder son had been bitten by a serpent and died. But,Apputhi Adigal didn't want to tell this to Thirunavukkarasu swamigal, as he thought that it could have supposed to spoil the great opportunity of serving the food to Thirunavukkarasu swamigal. He had hidden the dead body into his house and they got ready for serving the food.
Apputhi Adigal, just having hidden the deep sorrow without showing any symptoms was ready to serve the food to Thirunavukkarasu
swamigal. Having noticed the hidden sorrow,Thirunavukkarasu swamigal asked Apputhi Adigal to accompany his elder son with him.But Apputhi Adigal had told some excuses for his absence. Atlast, no other way, he accepted the truth of his son's death by the serpent bite.At once Thirunavukkarasu swamigal had sung the hymn on the presiding deity, lord Kailasanathar of Thingalur. The poison of the serpent was said to have been recollected by the same serpent and Apputhi Adigal elder son was back alive. This miracle had happened here in this sthala, Thingalur.
