Sri Lakshmi Chandrala Parameshwari Temple, Sannati - Karnataka
Sannati is located on the banks of the Bhima River in Chitapur taluka of Gulbarga District of Northern Karnataka. Sannati is famous for the Sri Lakshmi Chandrala Parameshwari Temple and the excavations by the Archaeological Survey of India. In 1986, when the roof of the Mahakali temple (sub shrine) in Chandrala Parameshwari temple complex collapsed, it destroyed the idol. However it revealed four Ashokan edicts on the floor and foundation stone of the temple. These edicts were written in the Prakrit language and Brahmi script and one of them was used as foundation of the pedestal for the Mahakali idol. Sannati is also the place where Rishi Markandeya meditated and also composed parts of Markandeya Upanishad. A small temple has been renovated at the place where Markandeya is believed to have sat in meditation. Sannati Chandrala Parmeshwari and Hongunti Hingulambika are family deities of many Brahman and Hindus families of Karnataka, Maharashtra, AP etc. Every year, the Chandrala Parameshwari Devi Mahotsav is held during the Navaratri festival. The temple has a history of nearly 800 years and was renovated in 1985. An important Buddhist site, Kanaganahalli is 3 km from Sannati, which is also on the banks of the river Bhima. It is the place where an ancient Buddhist Mahastupa site was found.

The goddess came up to the bank of river Bhima at Honagunti to save her devotee Chandravadani wife of Rishi held captive by the local king Seturaya..
Sannati villeage is well connected by bus. Buses ply from Kalaburgi, Yadagir, Belgaum.

ಕಲಬುರ್ಗಿ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯ ಚಿತ್ತಾಪುರ ತಾಲೂಕಿನ ಸನ್ನತಿ ಗ್ರಾಮ ಬರುತ್ತದೆ. ಈ ಸನ್ನತಿ ಗ್ರಾಮದಲ್ಲಿ ಶ್ರೀ ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಿ ಚಂದ್ರಲಾ ಪರಮೇಶ್ವರಿ ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನ ಇದೆ. ಈ ಚಂದ್ರಲಾದೇವಿಯನ್ನೂ ಸೇತು ರಾಜನು ತುಂಬಾ ಮೋಹ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದನು. ದೇವಿಯು ಇವನ ಮೋಹದ ಬಲೆಯಿಂದ ತಪ್ಪಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ಸನ್ನತಿ ಗ್ರಾಮದಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಶ್ರೀ ಸೋಮೇಶ್ವರ ದೇವಾಲಯದ ಸೋಮೇಶ್ವರನ ಮೊರೆ ಹೋದಳು. ಕೊನೆಯವರೆಗೂ ಈ ದೇವಾಲಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಇದ್ದು, ತನ್ನ ದೇಹವನ್ನು ಈ ಗುಡಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಬಿಟ್ಟಳು ಎಂಬ ಪ್ರತೀತಿ ಇದೆ. ಈ ಚಂದ್ರಲಾದೇವಿ ಗುಡಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕೇವಲ ಅವಳ ಪಾದಗಳು ಮಾತ್ರ ಇದೆ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಇನ್ನು ಮಹಾಕಾಳಿ ದೇವಿ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಹೇಳಬೇಕೆಂದರೆ, ಪುರಾತನ ಕಾಲದ ಸಾಮ್ರಾಟ್ ಅಶೋಕನ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಹೇಳುವ ಶಿಲಾಶಾಸನವು ಈ ಮಹಾಕಾಳಿಯ ದೇವಾಲಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಿಕ್ಕಿದ್ದು, ಇದನ್ನು ಈಗ ಬುದ್ದ ವಿಹಾರ ದಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರವಾಸಿಗರಿಗೆ ನೋಡಲು ಇಟ್ಟಿದ್ದಾರೆ, ಈ ಶಾಸನವು ಅಶೋಕ ರಾಜನ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಹೇಳುತ್ತದೆ. ಇನ್ನು ಬುದ್ದ ವಿಹಾರ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಹೇಳುವುದು ಏನೆಂದರೆ ಇದು ಬಹಳ ಪುರಾತನ ದೇಗುಲವಾಗಿದ್ದು, ಇದು ಮಣ್ಣಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಮುಚ್ಚಿಹೋಗಿತ್ತು, ಇಡೀ ದೇಗುಲವು ಬಿದ್ದಿದ್ದು ಬೌದ್ಧ ಧರ್ಮದ ಅವಶೇಷಗಳು ಸಿಕ್ಕಿವೆ, ಗೌತಮ್ ಬುದ್ಧನ ಜನ್ಮದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಬೌದ್ಧ ಧರ್ಮದ ತತ್ವಗಳ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಹೇಳುತ್ತವೆ ಬುದ್ಧನ ಶಿಲಾಮೂರ್ತಿಗಳು ವಿಘ್ನ ವಾಗಿವೆ. ಈ ಬುದ್ಧ ವಿಹಾರದಲ್ಲಿ ಯಾವುದೇ ವಿಡಿಯೋ ಮತ್ತು ಚಿತ್ರೀಕರಣ ಮಾಡಲು ಅನುಮತಿ ಇರುವುದಿಲ್ಲ.

Chittapur town is located 50 km from Gulbarga district. The town has the famous and ancient Nagavi University at the southern part of the town. The place is very well known for its historical and
archaeological importance, being a place of higher education like a
modern university. In ancient days called a Ghatikasthana and the
existence of a library with librarian (Saraswath-bhandari) is mentioned in an inscription from here. The place is referred to as Nagavavi maha agrahara. Its earlier name was Nagavapi. The great Chalukyan minister Kalidasa Dandanatha who was also ‘the promoter of the prosperity of Chalukyan kingdom’ appears to have founded the agrahara with 400 Brahmins well versed in the Vedas. In the course of history. Nagavi has lost its past glory and now it has a ruined and deserted look. It abounds in Chalukyan temple sculptures, delicate carvings and hidden inscriptions. It is a great centre to study Kalyana Chalukyan art. The main part of this Nagavi University is supported with Nagavelambika Temple, 60 Pole (60 Khamba Gudi), Nandi Baavi A water body which has water all around the year. There are ruined temples and mosques scattered all around this area probably belongs to Rashtrakoot Empire. Capital Malkhed of Rashtrakoot is located east of Chittapur about 14 km.
