Chandravalli is an archaeological site located in Chitradurga district,Karnataka, India.This is located almost 210 Kms away from Bangalore.Excavations at Chandravalli have revealed earthen pots, painted bowls and coins of Indian dynasties like Vijayanagar, Satavahana and Hoysalas.
Two distinct periods; Megalithic and Satavahana were noticed during the excavations. It was found that Chandravalli was inhabited from Iron Age onward.

Chandravalli Caves
Chandravalli is pre-historic archaeological site, historians found painted pottery and coins from the pre-historic and Shatavahana period and found that the human habitation existed during the Iron Age.
Monks from belgaum came and stayed here a few centuries ago.
No Lighting is allowed inside the caves, only hand held torches can be used.
The group of caves are interconnected and go underground till 80 feet.
A guide is needed to enter the caves or one will get lost

Ankali Mutt or Chadravalli Cave is an archeological site in the Chitradurga district of the state of Karnataka, India. The region is a valley formed by three hills, Chitradurga, Kirabanakallu and Cholagudda. The cave existed since Iron Age, and it was later developed by the rulers of this region. The inscriptions found in the nearby hillocks belonged to the Chalukya and Hoysala period, with one belonging to the king Mayurasharma, the founder of the Kadamba dynasty. There are many chambers and passages slithered underground. Ankali Mutt was used for meditation and it was an important secret meeting location for the King and his advisers.
The cave is located underground with the depth goes up to 80 feet. Excavations at Chandravalli have revealed earthen pots, painted bowls and coins of Indian dynasties like Vijayanagar, Satavahana and Hoysalas as well as denarii of Roman emperor Augustus Caesar and a coin of the Chinese Han dynasty Emperor Wu Ti belonging to 2nd Century BC. Other objects found included neoliths, a cist with a skeleton in it, pots containing bones and teeth of animals and a Roman bulla. One of the cists also appeared to contain the legs of a sarcophagus.

Onake Obavva (18th Century) (Kannada: ಓಬವ್ವ) was a woman who fought the forces of Hyder Ali single-handedly with a pestle (Onake). in the kingdom of Chitradurga of Karnataka, India. Her husband was a guard of a watchtower in the rocky fort of Chitradurga. She is considered to be the epitome of Kannada female pride. The hole through which Hyder Ali's soldiers sneaked is called Onake Obavvana Kindi (kindi=hole) or Onake kindi.Her heroic effort is depicted in a famous song-sequence in Nagarahavu picture directed by Puttanna Kanagal. The sports stadium in Chitradurga - Veera Vanithe Onake Obavva Stadium, is named after her.
