Amazing Places On Earth - Jiuzhaigou Valley National Park
Jiuzhaigou park is probably the most beautiful place I have ever been to and I have been around! Jiuzhaigou Valley is a mountainous area with series of lakes and waterfalls containing clear, mineral-rich water. It is located in China's Northern Sichuan Province. And Jiuzhai Valley is probably also the most well-preserved natural area in China.
More than 100 lakes of different sizes are scattered in the valley. These lakes with brilliant colors are called “haizi” by the local Tibetan people, which means the sea. It is these alpine lakes that make Jiuzhaigou a fantastic place. Disposed in a stepped-like fashion in the valley, the lakes are always connected with waterfalls. Between the primeval forests and the lakes, there are nine villages of Tibetan people, and the name Jiuzhaigou means Nine Village Valley.
The primeval forest at Jiuzhaigou is nearly 30,000 acres, which contains more than 2,500 rare plants and a dozen rare animals under state protection including pandas, which also have been found here. The discovery of Jiuzhaigou is related to a panda-rescue program. The pandas once were endangered because of the blooming of arrow bamboos here. When experts came to rescue the pandas they were startled by the beauty of Jiuzhaigou. Thus Jiuzhaigou became a protected scenic area.
The magic of Jiuzhaigou lies in the water – the alpine lakes and waterfalls. Pure and clear as they are, the lakes of Jiuzhaigou have gorgeous colors. The colors of the lakes change with the variance in light angle and intensity and changing of seasons. The lakes at Jiuzhaigou are of different types and shapes. In Shuzheng Valley, Rize Valley and Zechawa Valley, there are 114 lakes of different sizes disposing like a ladder. The 19 lakes in Shuzheng Valley are named “seas of Shuzheng”. Each is over 100 meters in distance to another.

나를 안후이성으로 오게 한 황산. 드디어 나는 황산 입구에 이르렀다. 황산은 중국 10대 관광지 중 하나로 4개현과 5개시에 걸쳐 있고 1990년 세계문화유산으로 지정됐다. 황산대문을 지나 가장 먼저 만나게 되는 곳은 자광각. 이곳에서 여행자들은 황산 산행과 관련된 정보들을 얻게 된다. 황산은 동서남북을 기준으로 동해, 서해, 북해로 나뉘는데 황산대문과 온천이 있는 남쪽은 산행과는 관련이 없다. 나는 본격적인 산행에 앞서 산 밑에 있는 비취곡을 찾기로 했다. 이곳은 아카데미상을 수상한 영화 ‘와호장룡’의 촬영지로 유명한 곳이다. ‘정인곡’이라는 별칭을 갖고 있는 비취곡의 테마는 사랑이다. 계곡 입구에서 사랑 애자로 가득한 비석을 볼 수 있는데 모두 99개의 글자가 쓰여져 있고 100개를 채우기 위한 한 글자는 비취곡이 끝나는 지점에 있다고 한다. 비취곡의 물빛은 말 그대로 비취색, 옥색을 띠고 있다. 기대했던 것만큼 사람을 압도하는 규모와 아름다움을 지니지는 않았지만 계곡을 따라 걷는 약 한 시간의 산책은 충분히 즐거웠다. ‘정인’과 함께라면 아마도 그 즐거움은 두 배가 되지 않을까?

The Color of China
A special documentary produced by China Central Television (CCTV) to mark the National Day demonstrated the colorful scenery of the world's third largest country on Tuesday.
High-tech equipment coupled with high ideas had resulted in enlightening and entertaining TV programs, starting with the Chinese national color of red.
The Dongchuan Red Soil located in southeast China boasts the most typical and featured red soil in Yunnan highland. Experts regard it as the second marvelous red land in the world following the one in Rio, Brazil.
Those strong colors of red, white, yellow, green, gold, and blue cover thousands of mountains. When wind blows, the plants in fields wave tenderly. It is a colorful picture drew by the nature, like an oil painting more than a Chinese painting.
The Big Stone Lake scenic area in northeast China's Liaoning Province is aflame with red maple leaves. The change of temperature and the coming of frost and dew differ the color depth of the mountain. What's more, the green pine trees highlight the red maple leaves particularly.
Yellow is the most common color in autumn. It represents the happiness of harvest and the achievements of undertaking. In Ejin Banner in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, the golden Huyang (scientific name: Populus euphratica) forests cover an area of 30,000 hectares. Huyang is also known as hero tree, as it is the only tree species that grows in the desert and it has a very strong vitality.
The yellow paddies in Jiansanjiang reclamation area in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province also demonstrate the joy of harvest fully. The rolling ears of rice are the best reward of hard work all through the year.
The Jiuzhaigou Valley, located in the Aba Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in southwest China's Sichuan Province, features perennially snow-capped mountain peaks, verdant and lush forests, stretches of serene lakes, and various birds and animals. Upon entering the resort, you will find yourself strolling in a colorful fairyland. On sunny days, algae and sediments at the bottom of the lakes send out colorful lights. The lakes, thus, have gained another name called Wuhua Hai, meaning multicolored sea.
The following places also reveal the colorful scenery in China.
Wucaitan, also known as the Rainbow Beach, is located in Burqin County, Altay Prefecture, northwest China's Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region. It is known for its unique landforms created by years of wind and water erosion.
The Lake Nam is a mountain lake on the border between Damxung County of Lhasa and Baingoin County of Nagqu Prefecture in southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region. This lake is the largest in Tibet, and also the salt lake with the highest altitude.
In Phoenix Mountain in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, the different altitudes and directions of slopes bring various colors of green, white, yellow, red and purple all over the whole mountain.
The color green can best portray China today when the country advocates green development. In Anji County in east China's Zhejiang Province, the green bamboo forests cover the endless mountains, which embodies the harmony between man and nature.More on:

Cycling Uphill for 4 Straight Days (350 Kilometers)!!!: Chengdu to Songpan, China Bike Tour
Riding from Chengdu to Songpan was our toughest stretch of riding to date. The entire ride was uphill as we left Chengdu at 500 meters above sea level and climbed over 4 days to Songpan at 2850 meters. We thought since it was so gradual that it would be easy, but we were so incredibly wrong! Luckily we had company for the ride as our good friends from Zhuhai (where we used to live in China) came to join us on this stretch of our tour. We had so much fun catching up and having some company other than each other for a change :). Exploring the old town of Songpan was such a treat, and a great way to take a rest before completing our final day of climbing onto the Tibetan Plateau.

The Long Road Home - A Month in China 2011

A giant copper puffer fish being built in China has caused a major row over state spending. The government has reportedly spent $11 million so far on the viewing platform which has not yet been finished. The structure is roughly the same height as New York's Statue of Liberty and the design is inspired by the globefish, which is a fish native to Yangzhong county, where it is based. The tower is encased in 8,920 copper plates and has attracted plenty of attention but not all of it positive. Report by Ashley Fudge.

Maduo 玛多, is the highest town in all Qinghai and the coldest town of the Golok མགོ་ལོག་ Tibetan region. This is the county seat of Maduo County 玛多县 with an average elevation of 4,300 m (14,107 ft).
It is here in this desolate land, just a few hours from Maduo town, where you can find the headwaters of the Yellow River which flows to Ngoring and Gyaring Lakes. The upper reaches of the Yellow River, known by local Tibetans as the Ma Chu རྨ་ཆུ་, are found in western Golog Prefecture. From here, the Yellow River winds through much of eastern Qinghai Province and dumps a huge amount of nutrients into the lower farmlands downstream and leave them with an enriched fertility.
The Yellow River or Huáng Hé is the second longest in China after the Yangtze River, the third longest river in Asia and the sixth longest in the world at an estimated length of 5,464 kilometers (3,395 miles).
The headwaters of the Yellow River originate at an elevation of 4,500 meters and then proceed to flow through 9 provinces of China and empties into the Bohai Sea. It is called the Yellow River because huge amounts of loess sediment turn the water that color (although the color is usually closer to a smudgy brown). So much of this mineral-rich soil ends up in the Yellow River that it can fill the riverbed and thus change the river’s course. It is slow and sluggish along most of its course and some regard it as the world’s muddiest major river, discharging three times the sediment of the Mississippi River.
The cultural and geographical significance for China can not be overestimated. Its basin is considered the birthplace of ancient Chinese civilization, and it was the most prosperous region in early Chinese history.
The Yellow River is not just a long river, but also the symbol of the Chinese spirit that has come as a result of this ancient civilization’s endurance: bearing burdens (its sedimentation), adaptation (its course changes), and perseverance (its continual flow).
And all of this culture and history of the Yellow River originates in the middle of nowhere on a lonesome, vacuous, sedgy plain. In particular, the two gorgeous, turquoise lakes mentioned above are considered as the source of the Yellow River. In Tibetan these lakes are called Tso Ngoring མཚོ་སྔོ་རིང་ (Eling Lake in Chinese) and Tso Gyaring མཚོ་སྐྱ་རིང་ (Zhaling Lake). Though very remote and difficult to reach, these lakes are amazingly beautiful and offer incredible glimpses of the snowy peaks of the nearby Kunlun Mountain Range.
