Guanghan (Chinese: 广汉; pinyin: Guǎnghàn) is a county-level city in Deyang, Sichuan province, China, and only 23 kilometres (14 miles) from Chengdu. The predominant industries are tourism, pharmaceuticals and the supply of building material.
Guanghan has an area of 538 square kilometres (208 square miles), a population of 590,000, with urban population of 170,000. A major part of the tourism is the nearby Sanxingdui ruins. The striking exhibits at the Sānxīngduī Museum highlight archaeological finds that some Chinese archaeologists regard as even more important than Xī'ān's Terracotta Warriors.
The region is steadily becoming more industrialised and that is helping with the progression of agriculture and enhances the region's development.
Nanking Massacre:One of the darkest periods in Chinese history
The Nanjing Massacre continues to hold a deep resonance in the hearts of people across China. In a period of just six weeks during the Japanese occupation of the city in December 1937, some 300,000 people were brutally killed by Japanese forces. Even today, the horrific events of the past cast a shadow over ties between the two countries. With this year marking the 70th anniversary of the end of the Second World War, we look back at the massacre, which was one of the darkest periods in Chinese history.

Zeng Chuanxing | Chinese Painter
Zeng Chuanxing is a contemporary Chinese painter known for his portraits of ethnic minority women. Known as the Paper Bride series, Zeng’s realist portraits express a melancholic delicacy in his sitters. The artist’s work serves as a commentary on the post-Mao, post-Cultural Revolution era, as well as on the Western influence on Chinese culture. Born in 1974 in Longchang County, China, Zeng’s work is influenced by the environment in which he was brought up, as well as by the changing cultural dynamic of China. After graduating in 1998 from the Central University for Nationalities in Beijing, the artist continued to hone his Western-based oil painting techniques. His work has gone to be exhibited at the Beijing Yan-Huant Art Museum, the Hunan Museum in Changsha, and the Guangdong Art Museum in Guangzhou in China. The artist currently lives and works in Changde, China.
A short trip to Shanhaiguan, China
We went for a short afternoon trip to Shanhaiguan on the outskirts of Qinhuangao.
There wasn't a lot of time, so we looked around a small part of the old (looking) town area. It is a much larger district than shown in this short video. Many of the buildings are shops, as you might expect in a tourist spot, and there are some museums as well.
If you walk down the side streets you can walk through residential areas, which in some ways are just as interesting as the touristy areas.
Part of the Great Wall passes through here as it winds its way down from the mountains towards its end at the Bohai sea (the Old Dragon's Head).

Chinese expeditionary army during World War Two 1937-1945 sino-japanese conflict 中國遠征軍之怒江對峙
he China Expeditionary Army (支那派遣軍 Shina haken gun?) was an army group of the Imperial Japanese Army during the Second Sino-Japanese War and World War II. It was responsible for all military operations in China, and at its peak had over 1 million soldiers under its command. In military literature, it is often referred to by the initials CEA.
After the Lugou Bridge Incident, the Japanese China Garrison Army was reinforced with the Shanghai Expeditionary Army. This force was further supplemented by the Japanese Tenth Army, and marched inland from Shanghai to occupy Hangzhou. In October 1937, this force was renamed the Japanese Central China Area Army. After the fall of Nanking, the Central China Expeditionary Army was formed. On September 12, 1939 by Army Order 362, the China Expeditionary Army was formed with the merger of the Central China Expeditionary Army with the Northern China Area Army. It was headquartered in Nanjing throughout the Second Sino-Japanese War.
The North China Area Army was maintained as a subordinate unit headquartered in Peking and was responsible for operations in the north China plains from the Yellow River to the Great Wall, including Inner Mongolia.
The Japanese Sixth Area Army covered central and southern China, and several independent armies reporting directly to the central command in Nanjing were used for garrison, strategic reserve and for specific operations.
By the war's end it consisted of 620,000 men in one armored and 25 infantry divisions. It also contained over 22 Independent brigades; 11 infantry, 1 cavalry, and 10 mixed (combined infantry, artillery, armor and support units). Towards the end of the war much of its ammunition reserve and many of its units had been transferred into the Pacific Theater leaving the China Expeditionary Army weak and undermanned.
The China Expeditionary Army surrendered on August 15, 1945 but its troops remained armed to provide security until Allied troops arrived.
