China vlog D-15: Changsha (Hunan Museum, IFS Mall, Martyr park)
Hello,
Had a free day in the middle of filming so I decided to go around Changsha. Went to Hunan museum, IFS and to a park. As I'm uploading this, I'm currently on my 25th day in China. I have been blessed with a wonderful opportunity to take part in filming an amazing show. I wanted to vlog some of my days as a means of remembering this wonderful trip that I am going through.
With all the love in my heart, I hope that everyone is doing well.

The 2,000 Year-Old Mummified Body of Lady Xin Zhui, Hunan Museum, Changsha, China
Watch the video and let me know if you've ever seen such an incredibly, well-preserved mummy. Her knee caps looked to be in better shape than mine!
Mawangdui was the family graveyard in the Western Han Dynasty and had the tombs of Li Kang (The Marquis of Dai), Li Kang's wife and their son. The amount of cultural relics found in this family tomb would rank them as biliionaires today.
The Mawangdui Han Relics in The Hunan Provincial Museum, Changsha, China
One of the all time best museums Travels With Sheila has ever visited would have to be the Hunan Provincial Museum in Changsha. This museum draws huge crowds for two reasons. All China museums are free and because of the fantastic 2,100 year old objects from the Han Tombs discovered in Mawangdui.
Like the Egyptians, the Chinese begin preparing for death as soon as they are born. The Han Tombs of Mawangdui were accidently found and very prominent treasures emerged. Manuscripts and paintings written on SILK. Laquerware, figures of the Dai family servants, bronze seals, musical instruments and so much more.
And, the Hunan Provincial Museum had...the Marquise of Dai's mummy (look at that mind-boggling mummy in the next video)...

Meixihu International Culture & Art Centre - Changsha - China
OSRAM/Traxon brought fine art alive by providing a total solution to light up the landmark in Changsha City of China, the Meixihu International Culture & Art Centre. 20,000 pieces of LED luminaires, including OSRAM Olux Linear were connected with e:cue lighting control engine fx and Butler S2. The connected lighting has outlined the complex’s composition, which resembles a white hibiscus standing still and watching its own reflection on the waters. Perfectness of architecture never felt so real.

Changsha, the Gateway to Zhangjiajie — China | The Travel Intern
So you might have heard of the Avatar Hallelujah Mountains and all of its grandeur. HOWEVER!! It can get pretty tricky planning a trip there.
But before we let you in on our tips~ Here’s an article for you:
CHANGSHA (00:33)
00:40 - Huangxing Road
This walking street stretches SO a couple kilometres, but even if you walk from one end to the other, it won’t feel like you’ve walked several rounds around the track because there are endless things to eat, see and buy!
01:11 - Yuelu Shan (Mount Yuelu)
01:25 - Chuan Shi Po Lake
Also known as Yuelu Mountain, it’s a pretty sweet getaway from the city of Changsha!
*Pro-tip: Bring your student IDs for 50% off tickets up!
01:41 - Meixihu Cultural & Arts Center
Feels like you’ve stepped into another world.. Really. The infrastructure is crazy huge, and even with our lil mavic birdie up in the air to the MAX ALT HEIGHT, it couldn’t capture a top-down shot encompassing the whole campus!
01:53 - Juzizhou (Orange Isle)
Here’s where you can visit the iconic landmark of Changsha — Chairman Mao’s head! Tour the museum to find out more about his background and life story~
02:20 - Xihulou (West Lake Restaurant)It’s not everyday you get to dine in Asia’s largest Chinese restaurant… The food is pretty sick too, and you get to choose between different mini restaurants inside!
ZHANGJIAJIE (02:43)
02:46 - Laowuchang
This is believed to be the best sunrise spot in Zhangjiajie National Park, recommended to us by locals!
02:58 - Avatar Hallelujah Mountain
Here’s what you came for — the very, very, very famous Hallelujah Mountain. It was used as the inspiration of the Avatar movie’s other-worldly landscape.
03:09 - Bailong Elevator
It’s quite an experience, descending into the depths of ZJJ National Park!
03:22 - Baofeng Lake
Take a soothing, serene boat ride through Baofeng Lake to end the day~
03:35 - Zhangjiajie Glass Bridge
This is also another super famous and iconic landmark in ZJJ, but beware though, at ALL hours through the day, it’s going to be a crowded time. But don’t let that stop you from exploring different ways to pose for a picture ;-)
*Pro-tip: Get inspo from the locals themselves, they’re pretty solid at that.
03:57 - Tianmen Mountain
04:09 - Glass Bottom Cliffside Path
Tianmen Mountain is situated nearer to the city of ZJJ, not high up where the national park is, so do take note! Also, yay to more glass bottom bridges and paths!!
Next Wednesday, we’ll be bringing you more in-depth tips on how to scale Zhangjiajie, it’ll be super duper useful, so stay tuned!!

Changsha Meixihu International Culture and Art Centre / Zaha Hadid Architects
Zaha Hadid Architects (ZHA) have unveiled an ambitious cultural mega center, which began to take shape in October after the project broke ground in the heart of Changsha, China. In true Hadid-fashion, the Changsha Meixi Lake International Culture & Arts Center defines itself by extreme sinuous curves that radiate from each of the three independent structures and links them by a pedestrianized landscape that offers a “strong urban experience”, forming what they hope to be a global destination for performance art.
The International Culture & Arts Centre embodies a unique variety of civic nodes and spaces: A Grand Theatre, a Contemporary Art Museum, a Multipurpose Hall and supporting facilities. The central plaza is generated by the relative position of these separate buildings and offers a strong urban experience whereby the flow of pedestrian visitors that come from all sides of the site intersect and meet. In parallel it also stretches outwards to the neighboring streets with unfettered and phenomenal views across Meixi lake with access towards Festival Island.

MICA -Changsha Meixihu International Contemporary Art Museum
The Museum’s composition of three fluid petals around its internal central atrium, juxtaposes of the various patchworks of gallery spaces in a truly seamless fashion. With outward views and balconies to its exteriors, it aims to engage the site’s unique location and surrounding views into some of its gallery spaces. An external plaza which faces Meixi Lake Road allows for outdoor sculptures, exhibitions and events to be extended to an expansive outdoor space.
