Mysterious Underground Fire Ablaze for 59 Years in Southwest China City
Mysterious underground fire ablaze for 59 years in a district in southwest China's Chongqing Municipality recently attracted media attention.
This patch of land, covering some four square meters, is located in a place called Miao'erdong, Dongmen Village in Changshou District, where seven or eight tongues of flames are burning all year round, rain or snow.
Local residents come here to boil water every morning and evening. They said water could boil up on the flames within five minutes.
Firewood used to be expensive in the past and sometimes we had to go to the western mountainous areas to carry back bundles of firewood. But it was more convenient here. We came here with our cooking pots and queued to boil sweet potatoes and pigweed, said Wang Mantang, a local villager.
It is surprising that the flames cannot be extinguished. Even if water is poured on them, they will become ignited again within three minutes.
They cannot be extinguished. If so, how could there be burning flames? They are burning every minute and every day throughout the year, Wang said.
The fire started 59 years ago from a natural gas well that an oil exploitation team drilled back in 1958. But the well was left unexplored because of scarce and scattered natural gas reserves. A dearth of gas has since been emitting all these years and hence the fire keeps burning.
As the fire has not affected crops nearby, local authorities have left it as it is. Villagers would circumvent the patch when passing by, and no accident concerned has ever been reported.

Guangzhou or Canton (广州) , the capital of Guangdong Province, is the third largest city in China after Beijing and Shanghai with a population of more than 12 million. Founded in 214 BC, the city has been a springboard for trading, cultural exchanges, many revolutions and reforms, making it an unavoidable stopover to understand what shapes the modern China.
Guangzhou's isolation from the rest of 'typical China' by mountainous topography and early exposure to the outside world has resulted in its unique way of lifestyle, liberal ideas, distinctive cuisine and tremendous wealth. It is no surprise that Guangzhou is a cradle of many reforms and revolutions that changed the fate of China forever. Today Guangzhou still unveils many republic-era sights that help travelers understand modern Chinese history.
Founded in 214 BC, this capital of the richest province is always a mix of new and old. It not only boasts some of the oldest temples in China, a millenarian-old park, an imperial tomb of a southern kingdom and complete preservation of colonial villas and church on Shamian, but it also serves as a showcase of futuristic architectures and autopilot metro on Zhujiang New Town.
Despite its vibrant sight-seeing resources, travelers usually come to Guangzhou to shop and eat. Guangzhou accommodates countless huge markets specializing in almost any made-in-china products, including Chinese tea, herbs, garments, watches, electronics and toys. You will be appalled to see the real prices of those China-made products and the profit your local shops earn by selling them.
Guangzhou is divided into ten districts. Among them, Yuexiu and Liwan, the cradle for the Cantonese culture, has been the city center since the imperial era. Tianhe, which was a farming village decades ago, has been constructed into a new business center with some biggest shopping malls and highest skyscrapers in the city.
For travelers, the most useful road is Zhongshan Road, a 9 KM long highway horizontally cutting through the downtown of Guangzhou. The highway is divided into 8 sections. From Zhongshan 6 Road (中山六路)to Zhongshan 8 Road (中山八路) it covers around 80% tourist attractions and all famous restaurants. This area is well connected by Metro Line 1 from Changshou Lu (長壽路), Chen Clan Academy (陈家祠), Ximenkou(西门口) to Gongyuanqian (公园前)
Yuexiu (越秀 Yuèxiù) — The Zhongshan 6 Road area, which covers the original area of Yuexiu before its expansion in the 2005, has been the very core since 214 AD. Highlights include Yuexiu Park, Guangzhou Museum located at Zhanhai Tower, Orchid Garden, Mausoleum of Nanyue King, Guangxiao Temple, Temple of Six Banyan Trees, Huangsheng Mosque, Beijing Lu Shopping District, Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall, Temple of Five Rams, Shishi Cathedral.
Liwan (荔湾 Lìwān) — On the north of the pearl river makes up the old Guangzhou area and home to the standard Cantonese accent (Xiguan Accent, literally West Gate Accent). Tourist highlights include the colonial Shamian Island, Xiguan Old Houses, Xiangxiajiu shopping Street, Liziwan Lake Park and Chen's Clan Academy.
Tianhe (天河 Tiānhé) is the business district, thriving with many skyscrapers and shopping malls. The newly developed Zhujiang New Town (珠江新城) is a showcase of futuristic urban planning and avant-garde architecture.
Haizhu (海珠'Hǎizhū') — At the south of the Pearl River, the former industrial district has transformed into more residential and business today. It is home to the city's latest landmark Canton Tower and the South Campus of Sun Yat-Sen University
Panyu (番禺 Pānyú) is an area getting more popular among local tourists. Its Lianhua Mountain boosts 100,000 blooming lotus flower and sits a huge Bodhisattva Guanyin statue.
Baiyun (白云 Báiyún) — This district is where the old airport is located. The Baiyun Mountain is a major attraction.
Huangpu (黄埔 Huángpǔ) is home to Huangpu Military Academy.
Nansha (南沙 Nánshā) is a newly developed area at the southern tip of the city.
Luogang (萝岗 Luógǎng) is famous for its plum forest and Tianlu Lake Forest Park.
Huadu (花都 Huādū) is where the New Baiyun International Airport is located.
Zengcheng (增城 Zēngchéng) is famous for its lychee fruit, which are picked in June and July.
Conghua (从化 Cónghuà) is popular among tourists for its hot springs and Tianhe (Heavenly Lake) Recreation area.

Spring flowers bloom across China
A variety of flowers are in full bloom across China as the warm spring weather continues.
More than one million tulips of various colors have blossomed at a tourist attraction in Changshou District in southwest China's Chongqing Municipality.
The sea of flowers has drawn many visitors eager to celebrate spring.
A valley filled with white peach blossoms and bright yellow rapeseed flowers amid a sea of clouds has created a spectacular sight alongside local ancient dwellings in Qimen County of east China's Anhui Province.
Meanwhile in Chongqing's Kaizhou District, over 660 hectares of rolling hills are brimming with plum trees in full bloom. Scattered amongst nearby communities, the flowers have created a wonderland for the locals.
In central China's Hubei Province peach blossoms have bloomed across more than 600 hectares of a valley in Jingmen City and has attracted scores pf visitors looking to capture the picturesque scene.
In addition to tourists, farmers are also benefiting from the warm spring weather. Thousands of hectares of fruit trees are flourishing across Xixian County of eastern Anhui Province. The farmers working in the fields amid the spring scenery, all hoped for a good harvest.
Finally in southwest China's Yunnan Province, dense crowds of sea gulls have flocked to Kunming, Yunnan's capital city, to relax in the warm spring air and to be admired by locals.
11 Chongqing Officials Dismissed For Sex Videos

On Jan. 24th the Chinese Communist Party (CCP)
Chongqing City committee made an announcement.
It said that 10 high-level officials and management in
state-owned companies were sacked.
Eight of them are the top leaders in major regions.
Online exposing of sex tape scandals caused
11 officials to be punished.
10 of the officials are: Peng Zhiyong, party secretary of
Jiulong District, Fan Mingwen in Bishan County,
Han Shuming, vice secretary in Changshou District,
Ai Dong in Shizhu Tujia County,
Luo Dengyou, transportation discipline committee secretary,
Xie Huajun, chairman in Chongqing Machinery & Electronics Holding Ltd,
Zhou Tianyun, Chairman of Chongqing Property Group and
Chongqing International Trust Ltd, and South-West Stocks Ltd
and vice chairman of Chongqing City Investment Group.
The previous day, Southern Metropolis Daily (SMD) reported
a detailed story of how Xiao Ye, founder of Yonghui Group,
used sex as bait to blackmail Chongqing officials, which made
officials including Lei Zhengfu become victims of sex scandal.
SMD emphasized that officials in the sex tapes weren't in their
current positions at the time, but they were promoted afterwards.
Journalist Zhu Ruifeng who first disclosed the sex tapes on
the Internet said that due to Hong Kong media and Voice of
America constantly reporting on the scandals,
more Chongqing officials were dismissed.
Unfortunately, these officials' punishment are not processed
in accordance to legal procedures.
Zhu pointed out that some officials still haven't been
punished yet.
Zhu Ruifeng, who runs anti-corruption website said: Actually
Chongqing authorities wanted to cover up the scandals, never to investigate them again.
In the past, they destroyed all the files in the police station
of cases involving their officials.
Recently, many officials were punished after their
sex tapes were exposed.
For example, Yi Junqing, head of the Central Compilation
and Translation Bureau, was fired after Ms. Chang Yan exposed him on the Internet.
In the two months since General Secretary Xi Jinping took
office, he has vowed six times to root out corruption in public.
He emphasized during the second meeting of Central
Commission for Discipline Inspection that
tiger (top officials) and flies (low-level officials) must work
together, must put power into the cage of regulation.
The public believed that the 11 officials including
Lei Zhengfu, should belong to low-level flies.
Li Yuanhua, scholar in Chinese history: Among top officials
many members in Politburo are tigers. Untouchable!
Jiang Zemin is the biggest tiger. They dare not touch him.
The CCP is an interests group, everyone wants to play the
balance to clear some flies in order to win people's heart.
Zhu Ruifeng said that, in China, the Constitution can't be
performed. No external supervision system exists.
People haven't got rights. How to curb the corruption?
Leaders in each generation had vowed to make
anti-corruption rules, only talking but not taking action.
Zhu Ruifeng: Under the current system, talking about
anti-corruption is an empty talk, hopeless.
Only with open freedom of speech, publication and
truly carrying out Constitution law will there be hope.
In the past, to move down and punish officials only
occurred because they were political opponents.
I think, without changing the system to anti corruption, even
with 1000 Wang Qishan, the problem still cannot be solved.
However, some unexpected affairs existed among
removed officials. For example:
Peng Zhiyong, district secretary, chaired the third session of
17th People's Congress on Jan. 18th.
This well-educated high-ranking official, was widely
recognized with a broad political career.
Ai Dong, graduated from Southwest University of Political
Science & Law, was only 43 years old, it was regrettable.
Heng He, Current Affairs commentator said that the fact
shows Marxism-Leninism didn't have inconsistent words
and action, it didn't have power of constraint. In addition,
its principles violate human morality.
Heng He, Current Affairs Commentator:
Power leads to the corruption.
It wasn't cause by human weakness,
it was caused by the system.
These people talked nicely in public, but what they did
behind others' backs, is completely the opposite.
Heng He believed that Chinese peoples' character can
distort in the CCP system. So CCP officials will continue to fall.

10 Year Old Girl Repeatedly Kicks Baby Then Throws Him off Building
A 1.5-year-old baby boy was accidentally left in Wu and picked up by a little girl in the elevator. After the elevator door closed, the little girl instead threw the baby boy on the ground, fiercely kicking it. Arriving on the 25th floor, Ms. Wu happened to see that little girl come out of apartment #6.
Ms. Wu: I said, 'Little girl, where is the child? Hurry and tell me, I'll go find him,' and she even patted me, saying, 'Auntie, don't worry.' Security guard finds child downstairs on the ground
After the little girl took Ms. Wu downstairs in the elevator, the two of them split up to search. 5 minutes later, the residential community security guard discovered Ms. Wu's grandson. Yuan Yuan lay on the brick ground downstairs, covered in blood.
Ms. Wu: His eyes were bulging, head swollen all over, already unconscious, blood all over his face.
Ms. Wu rushed to take Yuan Yuan to the nearby Changshou District People's Hospital and because of multiple fractures in Yuan Yuan's head and chest with serious blood loss, Yuan Yuan remains unconscious to this day.

What's the relationship between the little girl who had been in the elevator with Yuan Yuan and what happened? To untie the knot of suspicions in their hearts, Yuan Yuan's family checked the residential community's surveillance footage of the inside of the elevator, and the truth of the matter shocked everyone.
