✏︎ As we decided to head for Sapa in the Northwestern region of Vietnam, we had to figure out how to get there. However it wasn't hard to pick the most intriguing solution, as we found out there are night trains from Hanoi to Lao Cai which is the train station closest to Sapa.

We booked a VIP cabin, which means we have a 2 berth cabin all to ourselves. You can also book a bed in a 4 berth cabin, but those were simply too small for comfort if you ask us.

The whole experience was great. Of course it's not easy to get a proper nights sleep, but it's a great way to save both money and time, as the train removes the need to accommodation elsewhere. If you are going to Sapa from Hanoi this is very much recommendable.

Chapa Express Train is one of the newest train in Vietnam, foundation by National Petrol Corporation and People’s Committee of Lao Cai province on April, 2013. But till June, 2014, Chapa Train just began to run Hanoi – Sapa – Hanoi route officially with the new coaches, luxury furniture and all conveniences. Chapa Train has one coaches each way with 07 cabins designed the wood-paneling cabins, air-conditional, reading lights, specially is mattress will be remove after each journey. On Chapa Train, WC is so clearly and separate in end of coach. First-aid box and Hot-Water heater will be served free on board. Staff team of Chapa train trained about language and skills, they can help you until you leave train. Each passenger has drink, cold towel, toothpaste with free in your cabin.

Due to the close partnership between Laman and 12Go cabins are never oversold and you will never be placed in a regular Vietnam Railways car as can happen with Violette and Livitrans Express.

Laman Express operates luxury private train cars with 4-berth cabins (VIP Sleeper 4x) and 2-berth cabin (1st Class Sleeper) for Hanoi - Dong Hoi - Hue - Danang. One can expect to enjoy a cleaner, calmer and more comfortable trip.

OVERNIGHT TRAIN to SAPA | TRAVEL VLOG #6

Hi guys!


So, this was our very first time on an overnight train and we took it from Hanoi’s Railway Station all the way to the city of Lao Cai. The train left around 9pm in the evening and arrived at 5 am sharp. The ride was very rocky and loud and if you don’t mind being thrown off the bed a few times during the night then this overnight train is for you! Yet, with that being said, we enjoyed the train ride all the more because of it! Life may not always work out the way you wanted it to or planned, and that’s exactly where the fun lies ~

We arranged for a private car to pick us up from Lao Cai train station through the hotel we were staying at called, Freesia Hotel. For a 4 star hotel, it was surprisingly affordable! The receptionists at the lobby were kind and attentive, the rooms were immaculate and the free buffet breakfast each morning had so much variety and was so delicious! Will definitely stay here again when we return.

After dropping off our luggage at the hotel, we went to roam around the town of Sapa for a bite to eat. We found a cute place called, Viet Emotion Restaurant and just when we were about to step inside, a lovely local woman stopped us to have a chat. She asked us where we were from, how long we were planning to stay and if we would like to have her take us on a tour around the small villages around Sapa. Vietnam Overnight Sleeper Train | Hanoi to Sapa

While we were in Vietnam we took an overnight sleeper train from Hanoi to Lao Cai. We then took a shuttle from Lao Cai to Sapa. After our stay in Sapa we attempted to take another sleeper train back to Hanoi but it turned out to be a bad experience. This video shows you what it was like riding a sleeper train in Vietnam. It was not at all what I expected.
