On April 1, 1907 George Speers purchased the undertaking business from the general merchants Marshall & Boyd and opened Speers Funeral Home, located on South Railway Street. Through the next decades it moved to a number of locations, eventually settling at its present location of 2136 College Ave. Mr. Speers was an innovator. He started up the first Marconi-equipped ambulance service in Canada. He also initiated the first Air Ambulance service in Saskatchewan in 1936. In 1980 three long-time employees - Ron McFarlane, Ron McEachern and Robert Hanson - purchased Speers and carried on the innovative tradition. They initiated the concept of casket rental and participated in Regina's Community Crematorium, located in the old Regina Cemetery. On November 15, 2004, Todd Lumbard became the owner of Speers Funeral Chapel. His vision is to build upon the Speers strengths of caring, responsive service and innovative leadership in funeral care into the 21st Century.
